Blog Interview
Check out an interview I did for Steve Gregor’s “abouttogetreal” blog. I loved his questions, which probed into the hows and why of my writing, publishing, and upcoming work. Enjoy!

Multitasking: The Writer with Six Brains.
So, I’m kind of busy. Hence the long time with not much blog activity.
Here’s the “to do” and “recently finished” list: I had a December 1st deadline for the next Paizo novel manuscript, got it in…on December 1st. I just finished the final edits for my second Privateer Press story, Flesh and Bone, another story focusing on one of their “iconic” characters, the very interesting Doc Killingsworth. I also have some flash fiction pieces coming up early next year for their Iron Kingdoms Excursions,...

Necronomicon, Here We Come!
It’s been almost six years since I’ve attended a Necronomicon, my “home town” convention in Tampa/St. Petersburg, and I have sorely missed it. You have to understand, Necro was the first convention I ever attended as a guest. I made friends there that will last a lifetime, and I can’t wait to get back.
The dates are October 3-5, and the place is the Grand Hyatt, on Courtney Campbel Causeway.
We will have a table in the Author Alley, if you simply have to pick up a copy of one of our books, and...

My Writing Process Blog Hop. And three authors you really want to meet!
More often than any other questions I get from fans and prospective writers are how, why, and what’s new. This blog hop touches all those points and more. Many thanks to my writer buddy Howard Andrew Jones for tagging me for this project as we sat at the Paizo Publishing signing table at GenCon this year. That was an amazing convention for me, as I got to add a writing project to my bucket list: I met with Catalyst Game Labs editor John Helfers about doing a story for an upcoming Shadowrun an...

Weapon of Vengeance Gets Some Great Reviews
Thanks to all who have read and reviewed Weapon of Vengeance! The book has been out not quite two weeks now, and is doing great.
Kindle sales have always been our dominant market (though Barnes & Noble and Kobo are picking up a bit), and WoV is climbing the ranks. This was the standing as of Saturday morning, August 9.

A Quickie Writing Workshop with Allan Wold
I’ve never been much for writing workshops. I think part of my aversion was from a short-story writing course that I took in college. The problem I had with that course was the format. You wrote two short stories, and each one was critiqued by the class while you sat there unable to speak or respond; the writer was left out of the discussion. It left me feeling more like a punching bag than a participant. The critique was rarely useful because, hey, these are students critiquing your work, n...

When Sidekicks Take Over
This was another panel discussion I took part in at ConCarolinas, and one that I went in thinking very hard about. Why? Because I don’t really like the idea of the “sidekick”. More often than not, if you really think about it, the sidekick is the more compelling and interesting character. I liked Robin better than Batman, Cato better than the Green Hornet, Bill Cosby better than Robert Culp in “I Spy” (Yes, I’m THAT old!), and of course, Watson better than Sherlock Holmes. Sometimes, as with...

Blood and Iron Release!
Blood & Iron is my first story in Privateer Press’ realm of the Iron Kingdoms, and what a boisterous introduction! While vaguely familiar with the world and the game (though their Iron Kingdoms RPG is relatively new compared to their turn-based table-top Warmachine game) I didn’t know the details, and let me tell you, there was a steep learning curve. It took me about a month of reading their source books to really get a grasp of how things work. The Iron Kingdoms, for want of a better descr...

Romance in Genre Writing

Romance in Genre Writing panel-Con Carolinas 2014
Ask eight writers about romance, and you’ll get eight different answers. At Con Carolinas, panelists shared their wisdom and cracked wise about what romance means to them, and how they incorporate it into their books.
One thing I loved about this panel was its diversity. Though the majority of the panelists were women, Y chromosomes were aptly represented. Ditto for the audience. Some of the panelists specialized in romance novels, while others...
