Wishlists

Today was a tough-ish day for me, what with the immense allergies, and the annoying eczema I’ve been graced with very recently. I went back to sleep when the boyfriend went to work, and stayed that way for 2 minutes, hating how I felt while ‘awake.’

After a while of this, I decided to wake up and focus on things I needed to do. Applied for more jobs, and checked my Twitter. And got a nice surprise. I recently hit 400 followers. (Cue the trumpets.)

excited-adventure-timeI know it’s not a lot (yet), but it’s a wonderful step in that direction. Anyway, I plugged A Night of Frivolity, you know that little horror, historical fiction, short story I wrote a year ago, published by Before Sunrise Press? And while looking for images of the book’s cover (this is a new laptop), I found a cute little website where I guess people can put their wishlists, and I found a Night of Frivolity on their wishlist along with a bunch of other cutesy vampire-esque things the person desires.FRIVOLITY(1)_original

wishlster

Cutest thing ever!

There’s something quite validating about someone wanting your work, whether that be verbally for visually. If anything it helped me feel a bit better about myself and the work I do.

(If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been a bit miserable and fighting to remain happy.)

I guess the things I’m re-learning (sigh, ain’t that always the way), is to remain focused on what I’ve done and what I plan to do and not get so hung up on the things that aren’t exactly happening yet. I will get there, like I did everything else, in time.

Keep your bite,

A Little Life Happens Along The Way

loreI don’t mean to wax poetic today, but I haven’t gotten much writing done on my current WiP, The Two Swords (writing about the Lycans and where they’ve ended up), and the day took a bit of a nose dive after I cooked myself lunch. (Fried chicken cutlet and brown rice and black beans, with a side of potato salad. Yum.)

I had to look up how to fry the chicken cutlet though. Proud of myself for doing it. Shush.

But with alone time (my boyfriend is at work), comes thoughts, and thoughts, in my experience, often leads to over thinking, which leads to meditation, which leads to maybe a nap, or more meditation. In this case, it was both.

When I’m feeling lost, or just particularly not that jazzed about life or what I’ve done or what I’m doing, I do tend to daze off and fester in that ‘sad feeling,’ but I’ve been really proud of myself lately, for simply getting up and getting out of my head. (This has been a life long problem for me.)

Today, for example, I went to the store to get some much needed groceries for the house, and when I came home I cooked myself the meal mentioned above.

Simple things like that can sustain me. And not spending all my time in my room definitely helps. (I’ve moved downstairs since I’ve started writing this post.) I find spending time in a different space is wonderful – helps refresh the mind and such.

I’ve got dinner in the oven, and I’m currently watching WWE RAW (wrestling is amazing entertainment and if you don’t believe me, watch one match and tell me two men trying to harm each other into submission isn’t the best thing you’ve ever seen.) Going to tackle some more of The Two Swords after I eat and devour some much needed tea.

We can suffer from anxiety/depression/etc., but we do not have to let it control our lives, year, month, week, day, hour, or second. We can choose to move on. We can choose to get up and do something. We can choose to put our anxieties toward productive activities.

As a writer, who is often in her mind, she had to figure this out the hard way, but there is nothing like diving into ones work (whatever that may be), or simply giving oneself much needed rest.

Keep your bite and relax (if you need to), or get to work (if you need to, as well),

Publication Dates

I know everyone over at Permuted is super excited this morning….er, afternoon. (Just realized it was 12 pm, as of typing this.) Anywho, we at Permuted just got a nice present in our emails this morning – we got the release dates for all of our novels/series…etc. And it’s a relief, I must say, to see when my books will be out in the world.

2016 is the year you can expect, not only the first novel in The Dark World Series, but all 5, yes, all 5. Permuted and I will spit out all 5 books within a year, so you don’t have to wait a year here or there for the next book in the series. Exciting to say the very least!

Unfortunately, I shall have to put all my amazing cover ideas on the back burner (ya-huck), while I churn out the rest of the series within the next year or so.

That said, I’m keeping this short, and will post the first release date, as I’m sure you’re all dying (har-har) to see what it is.

As follows:

2/23/2016 The Dark World 1 – The Dark World

Awesome, no? Kind of like a late Valentine’s Day present, if your Valentine is into Vampires and historical fiction and political squabbles between Vampires and Lycans?

They are? Oh, well, great! They’ll love it!

The titles of the rest of the series have stuck in my head since I began seriously writing the second novel, and as the story fashioned itself, the titles of the remaining novels came out and stuck. And this was what, a year or two ago?

Who says I can’t stick to one thing, huh?

Well, there you have it, the world of publishing at its finest.

I will post the rest of the release dates, the closer we get the release of THE DARK WORLD. What? Don’t look at me like that. It’s only fair.

I said stop it, Bela Lugosi’s Dracula, I’m NOT releasing the dates of the next title!

Now, I’m going to go eat and tackle THE TWO SWORDS until my fingers fall off…or I have to go to work tomorrow.

Nevertheless, don’t forget to

Keep your bite,

Guest Blog Feature by the lovely Kindra Sowder

guestblogMy soon to be best friend, Kindra Sowder featured me in a guest blog post earlier today. Since the book isn’t out yet, it’s nothing more than a mere author bio and a former blurb for The Dark World: Book 1, but according to Kindra, it seems to be drawing a lot of attention to her site.

Which is incredible for me because I had been going through this very long stage of not really sharing anything on social networks – the simple fact was I felt like I had nothing to truly share. Because my book wasn’t yet out I felt as though I had nothing ‘worth’ sharing – no product, no interest.

This guest blog proves me wrong.

Since it’s posting earlier today, Kindra’s told me it’s seen 42 page views and its rising, whereas a few other authors with Permuted I respect the hell out of have said they think I rock and other positive things.

It’s a huge boost to the self-esteem and amazing to know that my fellow colleagues see me as someone worthy to indulge in the written word with and even WANT to read my book when it comes out next year.

I mean the more I read their work, the more blown away I am by the group of amazing people I’ve gratefully been chosen to produce content alongside.

I know this sounds like a massive circle jerk, but really, Permutants (that’s what we call each other, shush), are extremely talented authors and all of the work I’ve read (in pictures below) from them I haven’t disliked yet.

I wish to do their affinity for me justice once The Dark World Series gets rolling, and who knows, I may even gain a few people outside of we Permutants that like my work. :)

REVIEW: Tentyrian Legacy by Elise Walters

tentyrian legacy

5 of 5 stars

bookshelves: dark-fantasy, fantasy, romance, permuted-press, vampires, historical-fiction, urban-fantasy

Having just finished this book, my emotions are on high. Who doesn’t love a good romance novel? Who doesn’t love a good vampire novel? Who doesn’t love both?

You’ll get that in Tentyrian Legacy.

It’s simply a badass story.

Spanning the centuries, the Tentyrians (vampires), having seen all the world’s wars and great moments are on a quest to stop their former Brothers at arms, now dubbed the Dark Coven.

When Arianna is thrown into this world after graduating from Harvard, her troubling gifts (a mind that hears many voices and later the ability to read people’s minds) lead her to meet the alluring and Greek-like-god-figure Maximos.

He’s a Tentyrian and is determined to get her to realize she is one too before the Dark Coven can get their hands on her.

It’s a tale stapled throughout history, filled with blood, power, and romance, that is sure to excite fans of vampire lore, historical buffs, and romance novel enthusiasts alike.

As a fellow lover of vampires, and vampire lore, my thirst was greatly sated. Looking forward to more adventures from Maximos and Arianna and their Tentyrian Brotherhood. Definitely look forward to more from Mrs. Elise Walters. For a debut novel, this has immense bite.

This book is apart of Permuted Press’s “Permuted Platinum” line is out now in Hardcover and is available as an E-Book.

Get this amazing book like right the fuck now or else.

What else?

I don’t know but

Or else.

Keep your bite!

Revisiting Old Project

Let’s be real, they won’t match up against these beauties/brutes, but they WILL hold their own as best they can. ;) It IS their World too, ya know.

Humans take on a much bigger role in the Dark World, namely in the book I’m writing now, THE TWO SWORDS. And I feel it’ll be interesting to see how they match up against the bigger, badder, Creatures of the World. I had thought about including them back in THE IMMORTAL’S GUIDE, but decided against it for whatever reason, it just didn’t fit. Now, however, I see a point to them, and as everything else does in the series, they all point back to Dracula.

He’s had some issues accepting himself.

It amazes me how much a lot of people can be influenced by the decisions of one person who decided to take all the power for himself.

Thats what the series addresses and is definitely my intention to mention outwardly more than once: how much freedom can one have if one is thrust into a position of power – and will he be a good leader? Does he even want to lead?

In THE TWO SWORDS, we definitely learn more about Dracula and why he felt the way he did about wanting to become human and not continuing to be the monster he is.

I’ve revisited an old project, THE RATHER DEPRESSING TALES OF PATRICIA LAUREN BORDEAUX, and I’m resolved to finish it and get it into the hands of an agent and Permuted Press.

That’s all for now, I’m off to write some more.

Writing and Continuity

I’m not talking about continuity when it comes to ones novel, I mean continuity when it comes to ones blog. My blog in particular.

I know, I know, I’ve been about the worst when it comes to writing continuing content – if not daily, then at least weekly. Sadly, I’ve done none of these things for at least the whole year.

I can blame it on outside influences, the little bouts of depression I’ve dealt with this year alone, but I blame it on my sheer inability to conjure up something I feel is ‘worth’ it to talk about. I felt I had little to nothing to actually talk about, something casual readers will find interest in. But if I’m to create and grow a fan-base, it has to start somewhere, right?

So I’ve decided to continue writing, and even if it’s about ‘nothing,’ it’s still something. Just because my book isn’t out yet, doesn’t mean I have to wait until it is to write something worthwhile.

That said, I’ve had the ‘add a new post’ page up for about a week straight now, always clicking to it when not writing book 3, always clicking out of it to go on Tumblr, or Facebook, or Cracked.com.

But never actually writing.

That changes. And change, as I’ve learned a lot this year alone so far, is a-okay.

I now have a Newsletter. (Hint: Click the Page Link at the top of the page to see a picture of the site. Click the picture to Subscribe to the Newsletter.)

I’ve changed the original outline for The Dark World Series, and for those who have followed me when I was self-published, you’d know the last book (Book 5) was to be solely about Dracula as we met him in Book 1. I’m glad to say this has changed and the series will not effectively ‘end’ with book 4, but continue on to book 5. The story I’m writing now has a lot to share, a lot to say, and it was wrong of me to try and tidy it up so I can share one Vampire’s tale (and how I would do that troubled me as well). I’m secure enough in my writing to say you can catch glimpses of Dracula’s intimate happenings as it is revealed to other characters, but there will be no (for now) sole book based only on the Dracula we were introduced to in THE DARK WORLD.

But the title of Book 5 remains DRACULA.

Confusing?

Yes, yes it is.

But trust me. It makes perfect sense.

I can’t wait for you all to read it.

And if you’re following me on Twitter, be sure to reply to me or post about my books or this blog with the hashtag: #DarkCreatures

#Vampires #Lycans #EliteCreatures are also awesome options, but my main one is #DarkCreatures.

Let’s try to get it trending, what do you say Dark Creatures?

And if you’re brand spanking new to the world and haven’t been able to read a copy of THE DARK WORLD when it was self-published, you are free to subscribe to the Dark Creature Newsletter where I do a bit of explaining on the Dark World and how its come to be as it is. Also, I introduce myself and whatnot. :)

Kind of like that? Maybe? If anyone’s up for that sort of thing? No? Ah. Ahem. Yes, well. I’m off to actually write (and apply to more jobs and see if I got accepted to one of the many CUNY schools I applied to, and take my vitamins, and drink water, and…)

Cover Reveal: Thicker Than Blood by Lindsey Sablowski (EDITED)

THICKER THAN BLOOD is the third novel in the Magician’s Series by Miss Sablowski.

“Alaire Sencler is not the man he used to be. He left behind a foul and bloody past to be with the woman he loves, but the memories never allow him to forget what he did.

While the White magicians rise an army, their leader hides his true reasons for going to war. Meanwhile the Dark magicians seek out a new haven, one that might keep them hidden long enough to prepare for the war that is raging on outside their doorstep.

Though Alaire has a unique gift and the woman of his dreams by his side, he has yet to come to terms with Esmour’s death and what the future holds for him. New faces and the revealing of the fifth Dark magicians offers hope, but only the strongest will survive in the final battle.

Whoever said “blood runs thicker than water” never knew what it is like to be a part of the current.“

coverreveal

coverreveal2The Magicians Series is the series of YA novels centered around Dark and Light Magicians.

Teaser:

(Note: This scene is told from Alaire’s POV and includes Alaire, Léal, and Rostland.)

We followed the noises and passed by more trees until Léal was in our sight. He performed a

spell which hit the tree in front of him. Rostland held me back and gestured he would advance first.

Slowly stepping forward, Rostland said, “Léal, you need to stop before you hurt yourself.”

He turned around and glared, but sweat covered his face and ran past his neck.

Léal replied, “You knew her for one year; I knew her for five. She kept saying time and time

again she was on my side, and I never once believed her until the end.”

Rostland took another step forward, but Léal raised his hand. I considered moving closer to help

if anything spun out of control, but I was confident in Rostland.

“Do you plan to kill me again? Come now, you’re making a fool out of yourself,” Rostland said

in a firm voice.

Léal whispered a word and cast a spell, causing a ice shard to strike through Rostland’s chest.

Every muscle in my body tensed, but Rostland quickly ripped the icicle out and threw it on the ground.

The icicle broke apart into pieces, and the two men stared at each other.

Lindsey R. Sablowski, a good writing friend of mine, and has been hard at work on the third book in the Magicians Series. It centers around Alaire Senclar, unlike the first one, CURSED WITH POWER, that centers around a young woman, Celestria Hale and her fight with White Magicians – she is one of the last Dark Magicians.

All in all it’s a riveting tale for YA audiences.

“Celestria Hale learns that she is one of the last living Dark magicians. Upon leaving her hometown, she searches for others like herself to find out what has happened to her kind. She meets Alaire, another Dark magician with a dangerously sinister past. Through their travels, Celestria and Alaire come face to face with their enemies. The White magicians plot against them, developing a conspiracy that will overtake the last of them. While struggling for survival, Celestria must also come to terms with her sister’s death. But is her sister dead? There’s no way out. The battle’s already begun, and only the most powerful force will prevail. Everyone shows a longing hunger in their eyes, but their greed for power is only the beginning of a war raging between darkness and light. With the war approaching to determine the fate of magicians, Celestria fears for her and Alaire’s existence. Destiny may find them, but will it be enough?“

The next book in the Magicians Series is SHADOWS AND EMBERS.

“It’s 1569 in Transylvania; Léal Irvine has committed to a powerful man all for the sake of revenge. Handsome, young Irvine is a high-ranking magician working for Esmour’s organization, Destin, which is composed of Dark magicians from around the local areas. However, one by one magicians vanish or die, and suddenly the world of magic is not as safe as it once was. One of the members and Léal’s best friend, Nicia, betrays the organization before the downfall. Unfortunately no one realizes the act of treason might have saved her life.

A year later Destin has fallen, and Léal sees the world through icy blue eyes. With only five Dark magicians alive his survival is constantly threatened, and he has no great leader or trusted allies to turn to. After infiltrating Belsgar and killing a member of the Magic Council, a war between darkness and light is no longer something anyone can walk away from. A new villain rises with a secret that could be deadly; meanwhile Nicia works to prove her loyalty to Léal while trying to revive their friendship.

Sides will be chosen, relationships will be at stake, and in the end the balance of the magical world will depend on the outcome of the war. When you’re walking on a thin line between revenge and forgiveness how do you choose the right path without stepping too far over the crack?“

I gotta say I’m feeling cover envy for the later two books in the series. Perhaps its because Lindsey sought out a cover designer instead of being assigned a cover designer like she was when she was published with Old Line Publishing. She has since self-published the next two books in the series. I currently own SHADOWS AND EMBERS on my Kindle, but I haven’t gotten around to finishing it – I’m busy writing my own series – by all means it is an interesting tale of a world filled with Dark and Light Magicians – and the Light Magicians are the bad ones.

Don’t Promote Your Book

S.C. Parris:

Very true. It’s what has frustrated me about a few social networking sites where everyone and their mom has written a book is trying to get it published or has it published and wants everyone to read it. I, myself, already push other authors’ books. And they may not even be books in my genre. But if its a good read, I’ll promote it any way I can so it gets some more readers. The circle is in fact round.

There are millions of authors in the world and millions more who are “just” writers. Among the multitude are the self-publishers, the traditionally published, the hybrids, the indie-published and the unpublished.

No matter what kind of writer you are, or the kind of writer you know (and you probably know at least one, even if they don’t admit it) there is one thing common to all writers. We all need people to read our books.

For every writer there is a book on how to write better. How to sell more. How to use Facebook, Instagram, email, Twitter, Pinterest, and any of a dozen other proven strategies to sell thousands of copies of books (hint: people buy books based on word-of-mouth recommendation.
