miss-flapper:

One of these summers I plan on going to Cottage Grove, Oregon to see the area where The General was filmed. I live like 2 hours away. I’ve heard that during hot days when the creek is low that pieces of the wreck can still be found.

City Hall Station Now And Then 3                ...

Long curves pleasing to the eye but not well adapted to longer trains contributed to the closing of this station

simplymyview:

City Hall Station Now And Then 3                                                                               Filled with curves and skylights and elaborate tile work this station is truly a work of art. It’s the curves that doomed this station as not too many years after it was build it became obsolete due to its inability to manage the longer trains due to its curved platform and the creation of a nearby station by served more train lines more effectively. Even back then it was simply too expensive to renovate the station for more effective use.. When you are on street level you can see the above ground entrance to the station although from a distance as its within the close off boundaries of City Hall. Whether it be due to cost, the mood of the times or simply the creative pool available it is rare these days to see such an effort made to build beauty into function. Currently the Fulton Street station has made such an effort in part and there is no question that being in that station does make one feel uplifted. The supporters of the City Beautiful movement  were definitely on to something and how great it would be if more of our cities were build with both function and beauty in mind.

Kady! These are amazing. SO LOVELY.

When I first saw them, I was like, “Okay, I get Landline, the couch from Levi’s house in Fangirl, Park’s mixed tape … but what’s with the lightbulb??”

And then I realized!

“I didn’t know love could leave the lights on all the time.” — from Attachments!

For World Elephant Day, let me tell you...

thisbelongsinamuseum:

For World Elephant Day, let me tell you about the only museum located inside an elephant, well, a three-story-high, 250-ton, three-headed bronze elephant. Located in the Samut Prakan Province of Thailand, the Erawan Museum was constructed to house the collection of ancient religious objects that belonged the late eccentric millionaire Khun Lek Viriyapant, who wanted to preserve Thai art and culture. Visitors walk through gardens filled with statues of mythical Thai
creatures, then climb an intricately carved stairway lined with ornate pillars. The interior is modeled after the Hindu representation of the universe, which consists of the Underworld (1st floor), Earth (2nd floor) and Travatimsa Heaven (top floor). At the Earth level, all major religions are featured, along with a fantastic stained glass ceiling and numerous pieces of ceramics and pottery, while a
temple and ancient Buddha statues are on display upstairs inside one of the elephants. In the basement level aka the Underworld is a museum dedicated to Chinese vases from the Ming and Qinq dynasties as well as a
history of the museum’s construction with photos and wall placards.
