Tonights’s installment of the Horror and Suspense Filmfest is I Heard it Too (2014)

Based on the two sentence horror story:

A girl heard her mom yell her name from downstairs, so she got up and started to head down. As she got to the stairs, her mom pulled her into her room and said “I heard that, too.”

And now, a guest post by Dane Cobain:

Introducing I Heard it Too, a Horror Film by Matt Sears

Hi, folks! My name’s Dane Cobain, and I’m the author of a supernatural thriller called No Rest for the Wicked. I’m here today to take part in the #AreYouAWAKE Horror and Suspense Filmfest, and in particular, to talk about a film called I Heard it Too which was directed by Matt Sears.

Matt is a good friend of mine – I work with him at a creative agency called fst, where he gets paid to make videos for a living on behalf of companies. But he’s like me, in that he stays busy in his free time, too.

He’s made a bunch of horror films, which you can take a look at over on his Vimeo page, but he’s keen to remind people that he’s not just a horror guy. His travel videos and his other short films are well worth a watch, but I Heard it Too is one of his best.

Appropriately enough, the film is based on a short story – a very short story, written using two sentences. I can’t remember exactly where he said he found it, and so I’ll do my best to paraphrase it:

A little girl is lying in bed at night when she hears her mother screaming her name from downstairs. She’s halfway down the stairs when her mother grabs her from behind, pulls her aside and whispers, “I heard it too.”

Matt’s film and my book are already interlinked – as well as being in relatively similar genres, I also screened I Heard it Too at my book launch, which he came along to so he could introduce it. Matt’s also mentioned in the book’s acknowledgements, where I thanked all of the people who inspire me by getting their name out there and doing awesome work.

I Heard it Too definitely isn’t a film that you’d want to watch with children, but it’s great for a quick scare and to get you in the mood for a horror novel. Meanwhile, if you’re left looking for something longer, it’s worth checking out some of Matt’s other films – I’d recommend Rec: 279, which is a homage to the popular Rec movies and which I also streamed at my book launch, although that’s another short one.

You could also check out The Butcher Man, which is a longer movie in a similar vein to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and other classics. Some of the scenes in that were filmed in High Wycombe, where I live, and I hear that the hardest part of filming was when one of the actors had to spend lengthy amounts of time sitting in a bathtub filled with ice cubes.

Hopefully you’re in the mood for some more horror now, and so I’m going to hand things back over to Melanie. Be sure to check out her new release, AWAKE, if you want a scare, and give No Rest for the Wicked a read while you’re at it. Let me know what you think!

I had initially wanted to do a pair of portraits for the 1001 Knights Anthology, but I decided that I could do something better.  This is the first of the 2 portraits I did—even though I ended up not wanting to submit it I decided to post it anyway :)

Friday, I’m in Love | The Wonderful World of Miniatures by Nunu’s House, Part 2.

I think I raved enough this morning about the wonders of Nunu’s House miniatures, so I think I’ll let these inviting pictures of a miniature cafe, kitchen, dressing room and garden speak for themselves this time around. Just FYI, each miniature piece is carefully handmade in 1:12 scale.

All images from Nunu’s House websiteblog and Facebook, as well as from Blah Know. In case you missed it, read Part 1 and see amazing images of Nunu’s House detailed food miniatures here. More Friday, I’m in Love posts here.

Happy weekend, y’all!

So cute!

It’s cover wars for August over at Masquerade Crew. You might remember I won back in June. I’ve checked out the condensers this month and cast my votes, which you can see here. They all look like something I might flip through. Head over to Masquerade Crew and cast your votes for your favorite covers! Do it every day if you want.

I love book cover art that’s well done, and it’s fun to participate in contests like this one. May the best cover win!
