City Hall Station Now And Then 3 Filled with curves and skylights and elaborate tile work this station is truly a work of art. It’s the curves that doomed this station as not too many years after it was build it became obsolete due to its inability to manage the longer trains due to its curved platform and the creation of a nearby station by served more train lines more effectively. Even back then it was simply too expensive to renovate the station for more effective use.. When you are on street level you can see the above ground entrance to the station although from a distance as its within the close off boundaries of City Hall. Whether it be due to cost, the mood of the times or simply the creative pool available it is rare these days to see such an effort made to build beauty into function. Currently the Fulton Street station has made such an effort in part and there is no question that being in that station does make one feel uplifted. The supporters of the City Beautiful movement were definitely on to something and how great it would be if more of our cities were build with both function and beauty in mind.
