Looking Ahead

Hi,

Yesterday was a hard day... a hard writing day. I opened the 3rd book - a work-in-progress and began to read. I started writing the story in 2008 and picked it up earlier this year and then dropped it again.

The initial draft isn't even complete... only half-way through. Which means I have another milestone ahead to complete the original story and give myself a first draft.

I know this is not going to be easy. If anything it's going to take an inner tug-of-war to sort this out. When I read what's written I want to correct/edit. And I don't move forward. When I edit I lose time because I'm not moving forward. But, for some reason, I can't go ahead unless I correct the page.

What should I do?

1st Workshop presentation

Hi,

OK... it's been a while since I last blogged and I didn't know what to say... so I decided to hibernate and think about the experience of presenting a workshop for the first time.

My first workshop presentation was an eye-opener... more for myself, perhaps, than the attendees.

In sharing what I've learned with others, I discovered how much I've learned as a result over the last 10 years about writing the fiction novel.

PLOT CHARACTER THEME PACING SCENE SEQUEL... These are just some of the words that form the tip of the iceberg. As I clicked through the slides... I remember at what points I discovered these for myself. Some were precise and I could point my finger. Some were vague, hazy, and were a month-long or year-long process.

You could call me a slow learner... or perhaps a writer who creates with depth... in any case teaching has taught me even more!

Moonlight & Magnolia Conference, Atlanta 2012

Hi,

Well the conference was wonderful and I finally got to meet so many FB friends for real and attach a smile and conversation to their names! It was like finding long-lost friends all over again and forming new friendships but in real... not just on the page.

I was overwhelmed, once again, by the support and encouragement of my soul-sister, USA Today Bestselling Author JADE LEE. What a woman she is and what a friend...

Meeting professionals in the publishing industry is always a thrill in itself... after living on the fiction page day after day.

Look forward to sharing more with you about the Moonlight & Magnolia conference, Atlanta, GA in my next post!

Presentation, Power Point and 3 fiction books!

Hi,
So the conference is this weekend... it begins on Friday and I'm presenting one of the first workshops on Friday morning at 9am...

I'm using 3 books and a powerpoint presentation to help writers understand how to take your mulitcultural fiction from Good to Great to Flying International... Hope I can actually help them understand what I've learned.

I'm referring to 3 books: DUTY AND DESIRE (my debut), THE KITE RUNNER by Khaled Hosseini and SHANGHAI GIRLS by Lisa See. 3 books that are close to my heart.

I've got 1/3 of THE KITE RUNNER left to read... so back to the book - and this time it's NOT MINE :)

Moonlight & Magnolia conference

Hi,
My blog tour is over and for a first time experience... I think that was another learning curve right there.

It was great to see people interested in and entering for the swag packs I'm giving away.

It was even more interesting to read reviews of DUTY AND DESIRE...

I'm now prepping for a workshop this Friday at the Moonlight & Magnolia conference in Atlanta, GA. Presenting a workshop is another first for me and I hope my Power Point presentation works and doesn't collapse!

So back to presenting I go!
