Multicultural fiction
Hi,
I'm 2 weeks away from the author event in CT and I've been thinking a lot about what readers and potential readers would like to hear. The topic is 'What It Means To Write Multicultural Fiction' and there are so many avenues to the discussion.
Would they be interested to know why I write multicultural fiction, what this genre of fictions means to readers and its relevancy or do they want to know how and why I am able to write this genre?
What do you think?

Prep for author event
Hi,
So I've been prepping for 2 author events this weekend and feel so much better now!
I started last week not knowing what route I'm supposed to take to get to my goal. I was confused, busy reading, researching and trying to find the way. I was sure the topic 'What It Means To Write Multicultural Fiction' was bound to fail.
I've learned so much in the process. Realizations from my childhood, culture clashes I never understood at the time... and moreso the balancing act... I was busy with 24/7 all my life. Including the time when I moved to India and struggled to find the balance again.
I'm hoping the event will go well this weekend. I'm hoping to learn from the attendees too.

Multicultural fiction definition
Hi,
I've been thinking hard about multicultural fiction and what the term means for all us writers who bring stories from the east to the west.
It could be a story set in Afghanistan, India, China, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore... the possibilites are endless. But what stays constant is that stories set in a country hold the people's opinions, beliefs, values and culture. These are a set of... not a multi variety of so then does it make sense to call it multiculture fiction?
Remember we're talking about ONE SET OF, one country's opinions, beliefs, values and culture.
Perhaps multiculture is a term suitable for a shelf only and not for a store or library? Perhaps we should find another term? What do you think? Hop on over at:

Presentation, Power Point and 3 fiction books!
Hi,
So the conference is this weekend... it begins on Friday and I'm presenting one of the first workshops on Friday morning at 9am...
I'm using 3 books and a powerpoint presentation to help writers understand how to take your mulitcultural fiction from Good to Great to Flying International... Hope I can actually help them understand what I've learned.
I'm referring to 3 books: DUTY AND DESIRE (my debut), THE KITE RUNNER by Khaled Hosseini and SHANGHAI GIRLS by Lisa See. 3 books that are close to my heart.
I've got 1/3 of THE KITE RUNNER left to read... so back to the book - and this time it's NOT MINE :)
