Multicultural fiction definition
Hi,
I've been thinking hard about multicultural fiction and what the term means for all us writers who bring stories from the east to the west.
It could be a story set in Afghanistan, India, China, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore... the possibilites are endless. But what stays constant is that stories set in a country hold the people's opinions, beliefs, values and culture. These are a set of... not a multi variety of so then does it make sense to call it multiculture fiction?
Remember we're talking about ONE SET OF, one country's opinions, beliefs, values and culture.
Perhaps multiculture is a term suitable for a shelf only and not for a store or library? Perhaps we should find another term? What do you think? Hop on over at:

Honor & Love of reading!
Hi,
So I'm officially over the moon again! I received a warm welcome from my copy editor for receipt of the the 2nd book and then....
She wants to read the entire book again AS A READER... after having gone through it once (with track changes), twice (the rewrites)--I mean can you believe that? I certainly can't!
It's an honor! Such an honor! A privilege to know that a labor of love isn't just mine alone... but another woman from a different background, of different origin, experiences and shaped by a different set of values, wants to read the 2nd book again for the sake-no wait! LOVE of reading!
It's taken me the entire weekend and 3 days to digest this news... and I can't wait to see what she finally says as a reader.
Until then I'm reading-no, actually,- writing the next blog post for my blog tour next month!
Happy Reading!

Zumba Thinks!?
Hi,
Yes, it's Tuesday and I made it to another Zumba class. I think I'm getting better... considering I'm able to cue in more than before and follow the steps. Plus I know what to expect.
But little did I expect that after just a few sessions everything would gel into one so quickly. Latina, Hip-Hop, Salsa, Bhangra - the dance steps switch from one to another so quickly. You begin with one thing and before you know it, you're tapping to another beat, then hopping to another, lunging to something faster and slowing the tempo to a little shake, rattle and roll!
It doesn't matter what genre, language or voice the lyrics flow with. It doesn't matter what beats you're dancing to. It doesn't matter if you understand the language or not. The rhythm, the movements and the excitement revving through all our veins were the same. Sure, some were better than others. Some worse! But in the end we danced as one.
Fiction has the power, sometimes, to do just this. You can't all be in the same dance studio and expect to read in one go. Some read in English, others in French, German... you get the idea. But the human condition, emotions, thoughts and values are the same for us all. And when it isn't, that's when you stop to think. It's what good books do.
It's what good fitness instructors do too.
Stop and think about yourself with a different perspective.
