Feedback

Hi,

It's Friday again... and somewhat a relief. With kids out of school summer weather it's ideal to be outdoors - when the sun isn't out in full bloom.

But something interesting came up earlier this week. I got back the edits on Bk II from the copy editor and read her overall feedback. Then we had a lengthy phone conversation and I listened to what she had to say about scenes that needed to be tweaked, rewritten and revised.

At first I tried hard to understand. Then I heard her feedback about my characters, their relationships and their inner fears... and I stopped to think hard. How could I not have known these things about my characters when I'd lived with them for 10 years? How could I have not seen it coming.

Obviously I haven't. And the beauty is that others who do, can tell me more than I thought I knew.

DUTY AND DESIRE

Hi,

It was an interesting week, last week. A reader was reading DUTY AND DESIRE and keeping me up to date with where she was in the book and her impressions of the scenes on Twitter.

It was a moment indeed! After 25+ rewrites and 9 years of perseverence... to hear what someone else has to say about the book made me realize that it wasn't just my story any more. It is finally a product I am able to share with others.

But the hope is that the story of DUTY AND DESIRE will help readers understand that they don't have to be 'boxed' in a situation. That alternatives do exist and all they have to do is think outside the box to find a solution to their problems.

That's just a hope. A big hope. But then what do I know? I'm just a writer with a heart.

Excerpts

Hi,

I have a blog post due for Sat, July 28... but so much has happened and stalled me over the last week that I don't know if it'll even get done.

I didn't get much editing on Bk II done because of 2 birthdays in the family. Then I'm signing up for a blog tour and that took a while to understand and figure out.

I'm thinking of an excerpt from DUTY AND DESIRE that needs to go for the post and trying to understand what readers want in short, snappy posts. Dialogue? Description? Narration? Tense conflict? Character revelation?

Hmmm... let's see. I guess I'm going to have to revert to DUTY AND DESIRE and flip through the pages and scenes once again to see what works. What do you think?
