Trying to find my muse

Have been having a bit of trouble getting back into seriously focused work mode for quite a while now. Going away to Rhinebeck NY for the Wool and Sheep Festival to hang out with all my knitting friends didn't really help matters much.  I usually don't have trouble switching gears like this but right now- all I want to do is knit.

However I forced myself to stay in the studio for the majority of the day yesterday and cranked out some pieces that have revitalized me a bit.

Each unique in their own way but all encompassing that earthy feeling that my work portrays on a regular basis. I feel like I'm getting there.

These are all available now in my ETSY shop.

PURGING

Today I am purging.

As I look around my cluttered office, studio space, and even my spare bedroom- all of this stuff I haven't touched.

This leads to clutter of my brain. I can't concentrate. I can't focus.

SO I am purging.

So far- 1 bag of leather scraps. gone.

9 books. gone.

1 hammer. gone.

A file set. gone.

bead storage containers. gone.

10 gauge Copper wire. gone.

4 bags of vintage buttons. gone.

And that didn't even make a dent.

I haven't even started collecting all of the beads to destash.
So.
Many.
Beads.

Pretty Palettes September Reveal

Today is the day to reveal the finished projects using the September Halcraft Pretty Palettes beads!! This was such a great selection of beads- it was so easy to put a necklace together in this color palette. The soft purples and bright teals and Blues really sing together - I mean seriously! Look at that yarn in the inspiration photo!!!

Both Molly and I are knitters, and I know she would agree that this palette would make a nice Fade, eh girl?? Fading lights to dark- an ombre effect, is ALL THE RAGE right now in knitting.

Here are the beads:

For my necklace, I used a little bit of everything and knotted the beads on a lilac colored waxed linen cording.  To bring it around full circle, I kept with the knitting theme, and stamped some custom charms for the focal- 1 reads  Keep Calm Knit On, and the other reads K2TOG or Knit two together- a common knitting instruction.
The gorgeous hollow lamp work glass bead is from my friend Heather Sellers! I flanked it between 2 handmade nickel silver bead caps.

As always, such a blast to use Bead Gallery beads from Halcraft! If you'd like to see what everyone else has made for the challenge this month, head over there to the Halcraft blog! And as always, follow their blog to find out what the next challenge will be, andhead to Michael's to pick up the beads so you can share your work with us too!

August Reveal: Pretty Palettes Challenge

I was smitten with the color palette for this month and jumped at another opportunity to participate in the Pretty Palettes Challenge at Halcraft

.....

This month's inspiration photo is this gorgeous scene of a pond laden with lily pads. Soft pinks, browns, greens, and some bling, the collection of beads put together this month were perfect!

Here are the beads we used this month:
Bead Gallery® 12mm rhodonite roundsBead Gallery® 8mm blue ceramic roundsBead Gallery® green coated seed beadsBead Gallery® 8mm turquoise Czech glass roundsBead Gallery® 7mm wooden square beadsBead Gallery® 6mm amber shell rondellesBead Gallery® large wooden rectanglesBead Gallery®6mm gold luster hematite faceted roundsBead Gallery® gold hematite luster square rondelles*
I of course, forgot to photograph my beads, and will be sharing Molly's photo here:  THANKS MOLLY!

For this challenge, I created 2 necklaces. The first, a double stranded necklace featuring all of the beads, strung in repeating pattern. The closure, was one from my stash- a porcelain Flower disc from Round Rabbit Extra, and an enameled button from Gardanne Beads.

The button loop was made with deerskin leather, and a Tierra Cast snap Rivet.

The second necklace I created was a single beaded strand, with a gorgeous handmade polymer Lotus flower pendant from Barbara Bechtel that I have hoarded in my stash for many years.  I threw in a Pewter Green Girl Studios bird because well.... I think all jewelry should have one! :)

Pretty Palettes Challenge- July Reveal a tad late

What with my current chaotic schedule, I wasn't able to get my Pretty Palettes piece done until today. Sorry about that! I never even had a chance to blog the beads that came from Molly/Halcraft.

This month’s Bead Gallery beads:Bead Gallery 6mm lapis roundsBead Gallery 10mm druzy agate stonesBead Gallery orange swirl Czech glass lentilsBead Gallery 6mm red dyed howlite roundsBead Gallery red carved cinnabar beadsBead Gallery 8mm aqua Czech glass table cut roundsBead Gallery 5mm 2-hole Czech glass squaresBead Gallery 6mm Czech glass gold biconesBead Gallery citrine chunksHere is the inspiration picture:

I didn't end up using the Orange swirl Czech glass lentils or the double drilled Czech glass squares for my finished necklace... but here it is:

I revisited a design using the wooden house focal and Green Girl Studios bird button and paired it with this month's beads along with a ceramic stick bead from Round Rabbit Extra.  It's a fun asymmetrical design that could work in any season.  The front toggle is from Vintaj Brass Co. along with the pewter arrow toggle bar.The beads are strung on waxed linen cording.
I am looking forward to next month's selection, you can see a sneak peek of that HERE on the Halcraft blog. I promise to be more timely in showing you the beads, and finished pieces next month!!

The Jewelry Roll

It's been a while since I've sewn up some jewelry rolls and after a request rolled in a few days ago I figured I would sit down and do a few. The process took a little bit longer this time just because I was learning the steps again... luckily I had some good notes written for the pattern.

I wanted to create a jewelry roll that would better suit a jewelry collection like mine. Chunky beaded jewelry.

I'm sure I've talked about these before on the blog so I won't bore you too much with a lot of commentary.

These twill loops can hold earrings, bracelets or necklaces.... whatever you have!

The Earring trim is situated above smaller pockets for extra protection of your long dangly earrings.  You can use this for French earwires or studs! To prevent from them poking through, attach the earrings back to front and secure them.

The large zippered pocket can hold a variety of things... bracelets, rings, bangles....

Elastic loops pull around the roll to secure it.In this new version I included 2 loops on the top edge, so that you can hang it on your wall when it's not being used for travel.

Available HERE.
