New Listings

Several New listings are now in my etsy shop and webstore. Tomorrow I leave for Milwaukee. There is nothing quite like the buzz of a good bead show, so I'm totally pumped for some fun and relaxing bead shopping. If you follow me on Instagram, you most definitely will be seeing lots of candid bead shopping shots, and probably a pic of a few beads    Few Hundred beads! Will do my best to share the full experience!

Have a good weekend! (orders placed this weekend will ship Monday June 9)

Destashing

I'm heading to Milwaukee this weekend for Bead & Button and you know what THAT means!? I need to make some room for the New beads!!

So I'm destashing some bins of beads on Facebook for the next 24 hours.  Friend me on Facebook- and you will be able to bid!  The whole BIN goes to the winning bidder- what you see in each of the 4 bins is what you get.

Yakkity Yak- Trip Two: South Inlet

Something you may not know about me.

I'm not a very outdoorsy type of person. I'm really not. I am deathly afraid of bees (nope, not allergic just scared) and I hate bugs of pretty much every kind. Lately the sun bothers me- It makes me itch.

But I'm trying. REALLY. I'm trying very hard to change these things. So the kayaking adventures I hope, will help.

Today we jetted up north to the Adirondacks again, and found a nice journey called South Inlet which is a calm waterway (4miles round trip) that empties into Raquette Lake.
It was a lovely location, very scenic. We did not see much in the way of wildlife.  At the end of the stream, there was a waterfall that emptied down into the inlet, but the black flies were so fierce here, that we didn't stick around long and paddled our way back to the truck.

Here is the put in, kind of a little stepped pathway down to the water.

Black flies were thick. We were covered in bug spray and sunscreen. But they were relentless.

But the view was promising!

It wasn't too bad out on the water. Pretty easy to paddle on the way to the waterfall but on the way back I really struggled to keep my kayak straight. The water kept trying turn me around which frustrated me. It was a long paddle back to the truck.

This sums up my feeling on BLACK FLIES.

We stopped in at Daikers, on the way home, for some lunch. It's a nice bar/restaurant situated right on  Fourth Lake and had a nice deck out on the back. I enjoyed that margarita- muy bueno.

 Smiling again!

Didn't see any heart shaped rocks this time around- bummer! But I'll be looking for them on my future trips!

What a gorgeous day for an adventure like this. 80 and sunny.

See ya later, I'm off to put on some bug bite juice to sooth the black fly bites,  and some aloe for this itchy sunburn.

Stinky Dog Beads Blog Challenge and Hop: The Reveal

If you are just tuning in, a few weeks ago I posted  this combination of beads that I picked out with the help of Kitty, owner at Stinky Dog Beads.
Here's how the challenge works- We had participants purchase the bead kits, and today we reveal what everyone made with the same beads!

At the end of the post, I will share the link list so that you can hop through the participants blogs to see what they all created! Fun times right??

Let's get started!

I created some earrings with the leaf charms, pewter sticks, and some faceted glass rounds.  They look huge in the photo but actually they are quite dainty and feminine. I love how they came out. I'm always a fan of the horizontal paired with vertical in any earring design.

The second pair of earrings, I used the Faceted Teal English Cut extra large nuggets with some copper drop beads and some cool copper ball head dangles from MissFickleMedia.  They have a very organic, sea-worthy quality to them.

With the remaining English Cut faceted nuggets, I paired them with the bead cones, some of my own handmade bead caps, and the other 2 leaf charms in this lariat design. The copper of the bead cones are stacked below the glass beads with a wire wrap.... and I stacked the bead caps below the cones. A cool and unique design.

Here is another photo for different options when wearing this piece.

It wouldn't feel right if I didn't do at least one design using leather! This riveted deer tan leather pairs perfectly with the Garnet beaded chain, and some other bar and cable chains. I riveted the Mykonos bird onto the leather and added some dangles- one of the Floral reproduction glass ovals, and a pewter stick.

And finally this last simple design uses some thin leather cording. I stacked the bee on top of the braided wreath connector and strung the second floral reproduction glass oval, added knots, and then used one of the stick beads as the toggle for the clasp. I played around with the idea of adding charms to the wreath but decided I liked the simplicity of the design as is.

I hope you enjoyed my designs using the Stinky Dog Beads kit! Here are the participants blogs- Happy Hopping!

Vintage Spools

My Momma gave me a few of her vintage wooden thread spools last week when I went to visit her. She had seen some jewelry on Facebook that someone posted of spools that were decoupaged with print and she thought I could do something fun with the ones she has.  So I started a little Spool collection....

The trip to see her also resulted in a trip to the fabric store so that Mom could spend her gift certificate that I gave her for Mother's Day. I ended up getting some pretty Batiks for myself and ripped some strips of it.

I wrapped the fabric strips onto the spools for these 3 pieces, and really love how they turned out.

I did the first one and threw on some nickel bead caps, and dangled a SwoonDimples pendant beneath it that was a perfect color match to the batik fabric.

I used a grey/blue fabric on this spool and found some coordinating Wooly wire to wrap onto some thick 5mm leather cording for this bracelet design.  To secure the wooly wire, I just wrapped the ends with some darkened steel wire.

Am absolutely SMITTEN with this last necklace. I used the coral/orang batik and the same natural colored 5mm leather cord but also added these awesome porcelain cube beads from Round Rabbit Extra.  To add a little extra space between the beads, I twisted some copper washers with my pliers to give a more 3-d effect.

These are all available for sale in my webstore.

Cool Tools

Ever think of using Bias tape as ribbon in your designs? I found a great shop on Etsy recently that carries the most gorgeous Liberty of London bias tape in many floral patterns. I haven't ordered any yet because of my spending freeze (saving for Bead & Button) but I hope to soon! They also carry fabric too, that could be cut into ribbons if you fancy that rustic look.

The shop is called  Fabrique Romantique and they are based out of Amsterdam, Netherlands. I love the photography though which is why I am featuring this shop over the others that carry the tape on Etsy. There are a few. :)

Bias tape is a folded piece of material used to bind seam edges for a nice finished look.  It's folded width is 10mm, unfolded is 40mm.

I love the Liberty of London floral patterns, so fresh and classic.

If you try it let me know, I'd love to see how it turns out and of course I will blog mine when I finally order some and use it.
