Friday's Haul

SOLD
Stacked earrings feature handmade bicone beads from newly discovered Graceful Willow Beads.

SOLD
A new Golem Studios lentil bracelet in the Multi-color version. Great to wear with any outfit in any season! Truly versatile in every way. This version features my riveted leather button loop and a fancy button I found at Joann Fabrics.

Available
Asymmetrical bracelet includes some gorgeous golden pyrite, chrome dioxide shards, and mottled red Czech glass ovals with some wire wrapped Czech glass flowers. The Skull button is from Green Girl Studios.

SOLDThe owl bracelet that I made on Thursday sold so fast and had so much interest I thought I'd do another one. Loralee Kolton gave me this little owl in a swap but she couldn't remember the artist. If you recognize it, let me know. I did some chunky seed beaded bicycle link chain with long magatamas.

AVAILABLE
This was inspired by a necklace I saw in an old copy of Stringing magazine. I used some of Kylie Parry's ceramic beads stacked up one side, and these cool textured glass rounds I recently bought at Bead & Button. It's a long necklace and so comfy.

AVAILABLE
This asymmetrical necklace features some pewter from Green Girl Studios, and I seed beaded the bicycle link chain with some Super Uno seed beads in turquoise and chartreuse. It feels so good on, really nice and slinky.
I'm heading out for the day, kayaking at Moose River. Be sure to check out my post about the trip in tomorrow's blog post!

A Cute Packaging Idea

A while back I wrote out my name in blackened steel wire and it turned out pretty cool. I eyed it in the studio today and thought it would be cool to show something that I could actually use that technique for. PACKAGING! What a super cute way to personalize your jewelry orders! And they don't take that long to make. I made these four in like 40 minutes time.

I stamped the box with a heart stamp, and opaque red ink and tied on the name with some linen cording.

Used one of Geninne's new stamps that are available here. And then added the wire link on top, lining up perfectly in the center of the stamp.

OR, keep it simple!

If you can write in cursive, you can definitely make these personalized wire links. Might even be cute on a smaller scale for jewelry, I know I have seen similar things on Etsy.

Changes
Changes are a'comin'. I have been mulling over many aspects of how I operate my business and it's now time to make some changes. First up, address the lack of newsletter. I had a sign up on my blog for a long time for the newsletter which I may have sent out 4-5 times? If that? I was using mail chimp and although it promises to be really user friendly and easy, for some reason I struggled with the program. To me it was confusing, and difficult to maneuver and I found myself forgetting how I created newsletters in the past and then would have to relearn the process every time I sat down to create a letter. I gave up, and even removed the sign up widget on my blog side bar.
While I was in Milwaukee, I had an awesome conversation with Marla (a fellow member of the Nunn Design Innovation team) and she mentioned Smore. An image driven site where a designer can create flyers and share on social media or email to customers/friends/family. I checked it out.
The site is so easy to navigate. Had a little trouble while in the airport, using my iPhone but once I got home I tried the website and it really was easy. Template --> drop in photos--> drop in text--> share! OMG, it could not be easier. And so, I created my first flyer. A little teaser to the Bead and Button recap post on my blog, with links to redirect you to the actual post. Within 24 hours I had stats stating over 120 views. That's probably better than the exposure I get on Facebook lately.
The free plan allows you 200 emails, and 5 flyers a month. No custom backgrounds.
If you upgrade to the $19 plan, you'll get 2500 emails a month. And you can create your own custom backgrounds.
To me it seems like a win win. Easy to create flyers, easy to share on social media, or even embed into blog posts.
And so, my plan is to start using this to my advantage. Maybe a flyer that will share news of a sale, or a preview for a big update. If you'd like to land on my email list, email me your email and I'll add it asap. The next flyer will go out in about a week. I hope to send at least 2-3 flyers a month, nothing too aggravating. If I notice more emails than I can handle, I will probably consider going up to the Personal $19 a month plan.
FACEBOOK CHANGES:
There will also be some changes on Facebook. For example, I will be utilizing my Lorelei Eurto Jewelry business page more so take a minute to Like my page so you can be the first to see what's coming out of my studio. Will be keeping my personal page as well but will be keeping the jewelry to a minimum there.
Changes to the RESERVES option.
NEW POLICY please take note:
Yes I will be accepting reserves on my business page only. I will reserve an item for 48 hours ONLY. Payment must be made within that 48 hour period , after that the item will be back up for grabs in my store.
Yes I will be accepting reserves in my jewelry stores. Again, 48 hours is the cap on reserves. After that, if the item has not been purchased, it will go off reserve and back up for grabs in my store.
I will try out this new policy and see how it works out. Be aware, I am contemplating eliminating the reserves option altogether to make things easier, stream-lined, and more fair for non-facebook customers and blog readers.
I'm also playing around with having scheduled updates on a set date and time. With a preview flyer that goes out a day or two ahead of time. What are your thoughts on this? Would this be helpful for those of you who don't follow me on Facebook but just follow my shop updates?

Bead and Button 2014, the Recap
I'm BACK! Grab a coffee and snack. This is gonna be a long one!
If you've never been to Bead and Button, it is all you could imagine and more. If ever you have the opportunity to go, make it happen. Not only is the convention filled to the brim with all of the most beautiful beads and components you could ever dream of, but it is FILLED TO BRIM with the most creative bunch of people you could ever meet. The room Buzzes. I'm not kidding. There is this electric energy, a buzz - all through the room. But it's easy to get disoriented. I got lost several times because the vendor grid pattern they have on the floor just makes it so confusing to get around and I'm sure I probably missed a whole section because I'd leave one booth and totally forget what direction I was going in.
Anyway, I roomed with Loralee Kolton and her friend Martha Scott and they were the best roommates ever. It was so nice to finally meet Loralee in person as we have been online Facebook friends forever now. What a treat to be able to chat the night away, we have a lot in common and enjoyed the bead talk and kitty talk too. I just love her and can't wait to be able to spend time with her again!
I got to see all of my online bead friends. Started my shopping trip in Artist row of course, and stocked up on my favorite goodies and even found a few new things! Bead shopping can be a daunting task, it can be exhausting too. And unfortunately being that focused means the camera kind of stays in my pocket because there is so much chatting and hard concentration. ;) Ok so I'm lazy - and didn't take many pictures. I'm sorry!
I spent Saturday shopping for the other stuff like chain, metal sheet, and czech glass and stones.
Here is the loot: (click the pics for links to their websites)
I have an idea to put together a few kits that will coincide with the beaded chain ebook that I wrote.
Still have to get some seed beads before I can assemble them. I will make 5 to start to see how they sell.
Brenda sold me some dark annealed steel wire and she's going to be lending me one of her Jig's to play around with for a blog post. Stay tuned for that!
Now the artist beads!
Dwayne is Andrew and Cynthia's older brother and was at the show for the first time exhibiting his new components! They were really incredible! He made the stars, wings and cicada.
Julie Nordine's birds are to die for.
The little lock from Elemental Adornments has me completely smitten.
and I could not pass up a few new Anne Choi goodies!
There was bead shopping but also some important stuff like networking, and talk about book possibilities, and social media, and even some conversations about some new business ideas like creating bead kits. Lots to think about and very exciting! I had a nice dinner with the Innovation team from Nunn Design, including Becky Nunn. Enjoyed chatting about jewelry and what the girls have been up to since we were on the team last year. I even learned a few things, including a new way to promote using a program that could be replacing my neglected newsletter! Stay tuned for that!
Another highlight was following Andrew and Cynthia Thornton around while they shopped for beads. Talk about inspiration- if there were ever a pair you'd want to shop with it's these two. They know their beads.
Sunday morning over morning coffee we ran into Kristin Oppold, whose work I've have admired and looked up to for quite a while now- what a fun place to finally meet in person! We got a nice picture to commemorate it!
I can't wait to start planning my next trip to Bead & Button! If you went, what did you buy, who did you meet?
