My review: This book is the second in the series, and I do think you would benefit from reading book one first. It takes place two years after the end of THE EMERALD TABLET.
The flow and pacing of this book are much better than that of the first one, plus there is the added benefit of familiarity with the characters. The author introduces a few new faces, keeping the reader’s interest.
Since the story takes place during a rebellion, there is a good deal of action and violence. The descriptions are well-crafted, and there really aren’t any lulls.
I particularly enjoyed the changes in POV, which are conveniently organized and easy to follow. It was intriguing to see things from various eyes and perceptions.
I can imagine the teens in my life enjoying this book. It definitely shows promise for the rest of the series, which we hope is coming soon, since the ending will keep us on tinderhooks until book 3!
I recommend THE SOUL OF WORLD and give it five stars.

While attending California State University, Fullerton and studying Criminal Justice, Joshua was introduced to a creative writing class where he wrote a series of paranormal stories. As a child, he has always been an amateur historian, focusing on ancient Egypt, Greece, and Roman civilizations.
