New things and prep work for Nanowrimo

Due to my friend Julian accosting me to try out National Novel Writing Month (nanowrimo - I love typing this out mainly cause its just nonsensical, but sounds funny) I am indeed participating.

Now, like most, I have never written a novel. Not for lack of ideas, but more shame over lack of talent on the level of Dostoevsky and Faulkner, the novel is like asking me to build an Arc of the Covenant in my home. Here are a few loose materials and a unwieldy idea or so. Go, make, do.

Oh. OK.

Cause I ha...

A different suspect

We are parts way through the autumn of political game season. Yes, all the duck and pheasants are fat with the berries of political rhetoric, ready for any good pundit to come along, slay them, skin them, and survive off their meaty game for the remainder of the season. But, never fear for game is no longer scarce. True, the political game season truly only comes round every four years, but as Jesus gave many bread and fish from a loaf of bread and two trout, so too has politics given us so m...

Tumblr

The tumblr-verse is a weird place. More than Facebook, Pintrest, Twitter, (input flavor of the month social media site here), Tumblr seems to most be like a person. Erratic, contradictory, enthused, offended, egregious (both bad and good), and glorious.

For me Myspace was an over-produced baseball card for people. Here are my stats, my friends, a few of my thoughts…and some pics. Facebook is a hot mess of sensationalized solipsism — I am sure there is a correlation between time spe...

“‘You know, this is a really beat generation’ … More than mere weariness, it implies the feeling of having been used, of being raw. It involves a sort of nakedness of mind, and ultimately, of soul: a feeling of being reduced to the bedrock of consciousness. In short, it means being undramatically pushed up against the wall of oneself.””

-

-Jack Kerouac in an essay trying to explain the Beat Movement.

Interesting that this quote is as vital today as it was back then. Perhaps it is time for a ne...

I’ve gotten a tour of the cemetery a handful of times at this point. I’ve seen and learned about each historic headstone and statue, explored each room of the chapel, laughed about the Cubs wall and how people spend upwards of $1,000 for a spot, and I’ve learned how the incinerator works. I’ve…

While I may be the “writer” in our marriage, my wife surely puts me to shame. We did in fact get...

Dig Doug Complete!

Dig Doug Complete!:

My short story Dig Doug is complete in all three parts on Martian Lit today.

Feel free to stop over and read the story of a office worker forced to find where the foul smell is coming from that is haunting the Ronto corporation. What could possibly be making that smell? What would drive someone to find out? Could it be that terrible?

Secrets always stink.

My wife drew this and I am just beyond impressed.

Beautiful.

I don’t draw females often, so there were a few failed attempts…two days later I managed to create something I’m really REALLY proud of!

Jean Grey for a friend.
