Snippet Sunday: Dust of My Wings, Dante’s Circle

dustofmywings_200With all of the excitement over the smoking (dragon pun intended) Tangled Innocence’s Cover Reveal (see here) we are slipping back to the beginning of Dante’s Circle this Sunday. Enjoy!

Available Digitally: AmazonBarnes and NobleARekoboiTunes

A woman with large, emerald-green eyes passed by the window, a small smile on her face and those side-swoopy bangs woman loved so much. She was average height and held delicious curves. He looked over every inch of her—a small waist, large, perfect breasts to fit his palms, slightly wide hips that would serve well when he gripped them, and sexy legs benath the hem of her brown coat …

Lily.

That had to be her. He didn’t know why he knew, but he was sure of it.

His groin tightened.

She was human. Not a lick of anything else came from her. Yet why did he want her so from just a look? He’d never looked at a human this way before. Why now? Was it because she might be the one who held his dust?

Lily stopped under the awning right in front of the window, careful of where she stepped—odd—and brushed the hair out of her eyes, before smiling at a passerby. She was radiant. Absolutely gorgeous. Shade held back a groan and shifted uncomfortably in his seat when she bit into her lip. She smiled again then walked to what must have been her car, got in, and left before Shade even thought to stand.

Some warrior he was, completely frozen in shock by his reaction to her. He was, however, unrepentant. He didn’t want to follow her today anyway. A town small as this would know of Lily and aide him in his research. If the supernaturals were revealed, chaos would rain. Humans could feel threatened, start wars, do untold atrocities when they met with what they didn’t know and therefore feared. And if the supernaturals felt threatened … Shade didn’t want to think about that. He had to know more before he did anything.

So many questions flashed through his mind. Who was she? Why did she have his dust? What would she do if she discovered his secret?

And most importantly, he wondred if she was single and how she would look underneath him, blushing in ecstasy.

He shut his mouth as the waitress set down the two drinks, her eyes still inviting.

“Thanks,” Shep said, his voice gruff. If she didn’t take the hint, then he’d say it, but she should be able to read signals if she was going to flirt like this in public.

“I’m here if you need me. For anything.

She fluttered her eyelashes and sauntered off.

“Jesus. I am officially too old for this shit.”

Austin gave a rusty chuckle. “Good to know you want to stay faithful to Shea. Not saying you’ve ever cheated—I don’t do that shit either. But it’s still good to know where this is heading.”

“Why don’t you just ask me what you’re fishing for?” Seriously, the Montgomerys were always up in all the family’s business. It didn’t matter that Shep was far away. He was still family.

Austin took another sip. “Things serious between you and Shea? You’re not getting any younger, you know.”

“We’re the same age, so stop bringing up the old man crap. And as for me and Shea?” He sat back and thought about it. He’d had a couple of serious relationships before, but nothing that’d made him want to rush to the altar or picture the woman round with his child. Shea though? She was different. “Yeah, it’s serious.”

This had been a stupid, stupid idea.

A large, warm hand gripped her elbow as she reached the sidewalk, and she tried to pull away.

“Wait, Shea, don’t go.”

“Unhand me,” she spat through clenched teeth. “Don’t touch me.”

Please don’t touch me.

He didn’t let go but pulled her toward him so they were facing each other. Sweat dripped down her silk-covered back, and she tilted her head so she could look at his bearded face as the cloying New Orleans heat surrounded them.

Shea could hear the hustle and bustle of tourists and locals, either working or sightseeing. She could hear children laughing, couples talking, a lone man humming, another yelling on his phone. Yet all of that became background noise and paled in comparison to those pretty blue eyes rimmed in dark lashes and against striking cheekbones beneath a few days’ worth of beard.

Shep finally pulled back but was close enough to her that she couldn’t move away and run like she wanted to. Damn it. She hated not being in control, not having all the answers and everything in its place. Yes, this also didn’t fit with her current circumstances, and it annoyed her to no end.

She shouldn’t have come.

“Can you make her boobs bigger?”

Shepard Montgomery raised a brow but didn’t say anything. Honestly, there really wasn’t anything he could say at the moment without laughing.

Or knocking the dude out cold.

“No, really. I want her boobs, like, enormous. Way bigger than Justin’s.”

Shep blinked.

“Justin’s?” he drawled, his voice gruff. Seriously, this kid was going to kill him.

The client snorted. “Oh, you know what I mean. Justin. My friend? The chick he has inked on his back has big boobs. I want mine bigger.”

Shep closed his eyes, trying to think of a delicate way to put the fact that, no, he did not want to ink this virgin with a big-breasted woman just because the dude wanted to show up his bro. Oh, and the other dude was totally a bro in every sense of the word. These two noobs had to be the most ignorant college pricks to ever walk in this shop demanding Shep ink them with whatever shit they wanted. Sure, he hadn’t inked Justin, but still…they didn’t even care that they would have to live the rest of their lives with shit ink—not that Shep gave shit ink—because they were fucking idiots.

He should just tell this prick to fuck himself, but this was his job. He probably shouldn’t be so honest.

No, wait, he didn’t actually care what this dude thought of him.

It wasn’t as if he was trying to be the best customer service rep in the biz.

Oh no, he didn’t give a fuck.

“No, kid, I’m not inking you with a big-breasted woman just because you want to show up your bro.”

This is the prequel to the Montgomery Ink series. It is also found in the Midnight Ink Bundle.

A Beta’s Haven: Exculsive Excerpt 3

“Cookie?”

Edward Jamenson paused in the middle of the sentence he’d been trying to read and looked down at his two-year-old granddaughter.

Brie had her tiny fist full of half-eaten cookie, waving it in his direction. He smiled at the one pigtail still up on top of her head. The other one Pat had put in her hair that morning was long gone. Now a little tangle of brown hair seemed to be in its place.

He leaned down and nibbled on the edge of the sugar cookie. She’d left part of it clear from her mouth, so it wasn’t as damp as it could have been. With one last look at the texts he should have been reading, he pulled away from his desk and held out his arms.

A Beta’s Haven: Exclusive Excerpt 2

Since it was a nice walk to her home, she’d decided not to drive that morning. Usually when she had Brie, she would drive just so her little one didn’t get cranky. However, today, Brie just laid her head on Willow’s shoulder and mumbled sweetly on their journey.

When she walked into the front room, she almost swallowed her tongue.

Jasper stood shirtless, wearing his jeans, tool belt, and boots.

Oh. My.

He turned to her, his long hair tied back with a leather strap. “Hey, there’s my girls. I’m fixing something on our deck then I thought we’d head to Adam and Bay’s for dinner. That way we don’t have to cook.” The bright smile on his face didn’t hide the shadows on his face, and Willow knew that, even though she was hiding her plans, they were for the best.

She’d do anything to protect her mate.

Even from himself.
