The Cover for the Paperback Edition!

The paperback edition of In the Shadow of Blackbirds is coming October 7, 2014, from Amulet Paperbacks , and I'm now able to share its cover. Granted, the cover isn't dramatically different from that of the hardcover edition. In the paperback version, the cover model portraying Mary Shelley Black is now front and center, the title and my name are larger and brighter (they match the color of the cool antique chair!), and that lovely Morris Award Finalist seal has been incorporated into the artw...

Here is your fourth and final pre-cover-reveal teaser from the book, a short excerpt from Chapter One that may provide a hint about what you'll find on the cover . . .

He spoke again to the audience, calling up “strong male volunteers.” Firm hands lifted me into the air, beneath my shoulders and legs. I ros...

Third Tiny Teaser for THE CURE FOR DREAMING

The cover reveal for The Cure for Dreaming is now scheduled for Thursday, April 17! As the date gets closer, I'm sharing occasional sneak peeks of lines from the novel. Here's your tiny teaser for today, a short excerpt from Chapter Three . . .

The corners of the papers curled and fluttered in the cool November breeze, and each notice resembled the other: a black background, tall yellow letters, and a pair of large blue eyes staring out from above the phrase YOUNG MARVEL OF THE NEW CENTURY!

Second Tiny Teaser for THE CURE FOR DREAMING

As the cover reveal for The Cure for Dreaming gets closer (approximately early April), I'm sharing occasional sneak peeks of lines from the novel. Here's your tiny teaser for today, a short excerpt from Chapter Three . . .

“I keep reading about that lunatic of a woman, Carrie Nation—the old hag who’s smashing up saloons in Kansas with stones and bricks and billiard balls.” Father stared me down with probing brown eyes that themselves resembled billiard balls. “Do you ever harbor urges to comm...

A Small Teaser for THE CURE FOR DREAMING . . .

As I hinted in last week's post, the cover reveal for The Cure for Dreaming should be arriving sometime in the next few weeks. To whet your appetite, I'll share occasional sneak peeks of lines from the novel before the reveal. Here's your tiny teaser for today, a short excerpt from Chapter One . . .

My hands, weighing several tons, dropped away from his fingers, and my chin slumped to my chest. I sank deep inside the darkness in a languid, dreamlike fall. Nothing hurt or troubled me any longe...

Updates: THE CURE FOR DREAMING and SLASHER GIRLS & MONSTER BOYS

The Cure for Dreaming PlaylistThis past week was a highly productive one for my Fall 2014 release, The Cure for Dreaming . Here's what happened in the span of three days.

1. I saw cover comps for the book! This is the stage where the cover designer sends a few different samples of the cover art, and my editor, my agent, and I, as well as other key players at Amulet Books, weigh in on the designs. Maria T. Middleton , who also designed both the exterior and the interior of In the Shadow of Blackb...
