Taking This Train From Paris To Geneva Is Way Faster Than Flying

Paris is the ideal base from which travelers can visit Western Europe without ever having to fly. Whether you want to go to Barcelona, Rome, or Amsterdam, there’s a high-speed train leaving one of Paris’ six train stations to take you there in a matter of a few hours. But the easiness of traveling by train from Paris is not limited to destinations in the European Union — you can go to Switzerland, too. Zurich is only a high-speed train away, and so is the beautiful city of Geneva.

The high-speed train TGV Lyria connects Paris (Gare de Lyon) to Geneva (Geneva-Cornavin) directly up to eight times per day, starting at 6:18 AM. The train usually makes three stops between the two cities: Bourg-en-Bresse, Nurieux, and Bellegarde. To book your ticket, visit the TGV Lyria website.
There are also non-direct train journeys between Paris and Geneva daily, with only one connection, often in the city of Lyon. These train journeys involve only one high-speed train, the French TGV. You can book your ticket by visiting the website of the French railway company: SNCF.
How long is the TGV from Paris to Geneva? The direct, high-speed TGV Lyria, connects Paris to Geneva in only three hours and 15 minutes.
Taking the train from Paris to Geneva is much more time-efficient than if you had to get to the airport in Paris (about one hour by train from the center of Paris), wait there for a couple of hours, fly for over one hour, and get from Geneva Airport to the city center.
How much is a train ticket from Paris to Geneva? The price of a journey on the TGV Lyria, the direct, high-speed train that connects Paris and Geneva, depends on several factors, including your dates of travel and the class of service you want, starting at only $30.70 (29 €) in Standard class. Booking early is recommended to get the best price.
For more information about the three different classes of service on the TGV Lyria, consult our guide to traveling by train from Paris to Zurich.
Do you have to go through customs if you take the train from Paris to Geneva?
Photo: Sterling Images/Shutterstock
Passengers on the Paris to Geneva trains go through customs upon arrival at the Geneva train station. You will need to present your ID or passport.
Switzerland is not part of the European Union and some travelers may require a visa to enter. All non-EU train passengers will need to present their passport.
Is the train from Paris to Switzerland scenic? As soon as the train leaves Paris and its suburbs (about 25 to 30 minutes after leaving the station), you’ll be treated to beautiful countryside scenery, go through small villages, see stunning lakes, and cross mountainous areas. Choose a window seat, and if you ride in a double-decker TGV Lyria (AKA a TGV Lyria Euroduplex), choose a seat upstairs for even better views. The Paris to Geneva train is considered one of the most scenic high-speed train rides in France.
How to get cheap TGV tickets? The best way to get cheap TGV tickets is to book your train journey as early as you can. Great deals can be had if you book weeks or months in advance. Tickets to ride the TGV Lyria are available up to six months in advance, for example.
The French railway company SNCF has a large catalog of discount cards and seasonal offers. Signing up for a discount card may seem expensive at first, but if you plan to travel by train throughout France and parts of Western Europe, it can pay for itself and save you big.
TGV Lyria offers discounted tickets to groups of five ($47.60 / 45 € per person) and groups of 10 (up to 75 per cent off).
How many days do you need in Geneva?Traveling in Switzerland can be very expensive, but spending three days in Geneva is a good amount of time to stay on budget and still see the highlights of the city, including strolling around the old town, checking out the famous fountain on Lake Geneva, visiting UN Geneva and St. Pierre Cathedral from whose towers you get magnificent views of the city.

8 Gorgeous Palm Springs Vacation Rentals With Private Pools

Palm Springs is a city in Southern California’s Sonoran Desert known for its warm climate, mid-century modern architecture, and Hollywood connections. With a glamorous, vintage, and elegant vibe, Palm Springs is a popular destination LA residents and other SoCal natives looking for a few days to relax in the sun. And few things are more relaxing than these Palm Springs vacation rentals with private pools.

Photo: Jason Busa/Shutterstock
One of the most striking features of Palm Springs is its mid-century modern architecture, which many of the best Palm Springs vacation rentals have. The style is characterized by clean lines, geometric shapes, and a minimalist aesthetic and has become synonymous with the city itself — especially in shades of pink and light green. Many Hollywood stars flocked to the city in the mid-20th century, building homes, frequenting local restaurants and bars, and bringing the money to build pricey homes in the then-current mid-century modern style.

The best Palm Springs vacation rentals with poolsColorful Oasis

Photo: Airbnb

Photo: Airbnb
Bedrooms: 1Max guests: 2Rates from: $124/night (April)This irresistible Airbnb is probably one of the most colorful vacation rentals in Palm Springs and ideal for a couple looking for a fun place to spend the weekend. The entire home looks like it was made for hosting BBQs, which the owners are happy to have renters do, as long as you follow the rules about quiet hours. The house comes with two bikes so it’s easy to cruise around the neighborhood or even go downtown, and the pool floaties ensure your entire stay feels like a retro vacation.
This is a great house for travelers who want to lean into Palm Springs’ retro vibes while still feeling like they have an entire boutique hotel at their disposal.
The Weekend House

Photo: Airbnb

Photo: Airbnb
Bedrooms: 3Max guests: 8Rates from: $154/night (June)This traditional home is definitely a departure from the normal 1950’s vibes you find in most Palm Springs vacation rentals and is more of a classic design with room for a big(ish)group. The listing says six people, but the copy says eight, so message the owner if you’re interested in hosting a few extra guests.
The large backyard has a private pool and hot tub, and the kitchen, living room, and dining room are big enough for everyone to comfortably socialize in one place. It’s one of the most budget-friendly Palm Springs Airbnbs with a private pool, especially if you divide the cost by six (or eight) people.
The Elvis Home

Bedrooms: 3Max guests: 6Rates from: $200/night (June)If you love the King, you may be all shook up when you see the interior of this Elvis-themed vacation rental in Palm Springs. You can’t help falling in love with the dozens of Elvis Presley piece of art throughout the home, and the sunset views from the private pool are pretty gorgeous, too. The home can sleep three couples, though the outdoor living area is large enough to accommodate many more. You’ll feel a burning love for the backyard once you see the colorful relaxation areas with no less than two hot tubs, surrounded by bountiful fruit trees.
The photos really don’t do this place justice, so if you’re thinking booking a Palm Springs vacation home, it’s now or never. By the way, pets are allowed, so no need to leave the hound dog at home.
Stardust Oasis Guest House
Photo: Airbnb

Photo: Airbnb

Photo: Airbnb

Photo: Airbnb
Bedrooms: 1Max guests: 2Rates from: $265/night (May)Sure, mid-century modern usually describes 1950’s decor, but in the case of this home, it’s all about the swinging 1960s. This is one of the most impressive Palm Springs vacation rentals when it comes to interior design both indoors and out. It’s a small guesthouse in the backyard of a larger house, so you’ll share the pool and hot tub with the owners. That also means there’s not a full kitchen, but fortunately, Palm Springs is loaded with great restaurants.
If you’re an animal lover, you’ll love this house: the owners have a friendly cat and also mention that “our yard and property have become a sanctuary for Cathy, as well as some other displaced and wary community cats, including the Jetsons (Judy, Jane, and Elroy).” It’s also a good option for liberal travelers: the home is adults only, and the owners note that the pool and yard are swimsuit-optional.

Bedrooms: 3Max guests: 6Rates from: $555/night (September)If mid-century modern isn’t your thing, perhaps this Spanish hacienda-style home will be more up your alley. The home, called Vista del Monte, was built in the 1940s and looks like it belongs on a design magazine — and actually, it has been featured in a design book (Palm Springs Living). Details like colorful tiles throughout the home, shutter-style pass throughs, and richly colored exposed wood make it one of the most desirable Palm Springs vacation rentals for lovers of good design.
In addition to the large saltwater pool, guests get access to a regulation bocce ball court. And because it’s an Airbnb Plus property, you can add on concierge services or additional pre-arrival services as needed.

Bedrooms: 4Max guests: 8Rates from: $640/night (May)This beautiful home is probably the best Palm Springs vacation rental for groups keen to explore the city’s restaurant and bar scene as it’s only a few blocks from the downtown strip. You can walk there in about 15 minutes or bike there in a fraction of the time. Of course, you may arrive and realize you never want to leave the home, given the cozy and inviting living room, gorgeous pool, roomy yard, and covered outdoor patio with a firepit.
Villa Campana

Photo: Airbnb

Photo: Airbnb
Bedrooms: 4Max guests: 8Rates from: $761/night (March)There’s quite a lot to like about Villa Campana, which may explain why it’s one of the pricier Palm Springs vacation rentals. Guests are greeted with a brunch basket full of pastries and snacks, and small pets are allowed. The backyard has a massive saltwater pool, and the bushes and flowers nearby usually attract hummingbirds throughout the year. The home also has perfect views of the Santa Rosa Mountains.
Inside, every room in the home looks like it was custom designed for an Instagram photo shoot, and the backyard looks like it belongs at a five-star hotel. It’s one of the best Airbnbs in Palm Springs for bachelor or bachelorette parties or any other small group vacation.
Mostero House
Photo: Airbnb

Photo: Airbnb

Photo: Airbnb

Photo: Airbnb
Bedrooms: 4Max guests: 8Rates from: $900/night (August)The Mostero House leans into its 1950s roots with details reminiscent of Mad Men, like a sunken living room bar and dark wood furniture. But as gorgeous as it is inside, the private pool is probably the star of this Palm Springs Airbnb. It was recently redesigned by a hotel design team and does indeed look like a luxury hotel. But that’s perhaps not surprising as it’s in one of the city’s neighborhoods known for hosting Hollywood elites in the 1950s and 1960s.
This is one of the best Palm Springs vacation rentals for groups of friends or couples as every bedroom has a private bathroom. Renters can also add on options like daily maid service, a private chef, or other concierge-type services as desired.
Where to stay in Palm Springs
Photo: Suzie Dundas
If you’re wondering where to stay in Palm Springs, the good news is that it doesn’t really matter. You can find some Palm Springs hotels in the downtown area, walkable to restaurants and shopping, but nearly all Palm Springs vacation rentals are going to be in neighborhoods a few minutes away from downtown. Fortunately, Palm Springs is a very drivable city and there’s usually not much traffic. You can also rent bikes to have delivered to your vacation rental, or hop on the city’s free trolley service running between North and South Palm Canyon Drive.

Nestled among verdant rice paddies and lush forests, Hoshinoya Resort was designed to blend seamlessly into its surroundings in a sort of modern-minimalist Japanese aesthetic, with traditional thatched-roof villas featuring private plunge pools and outdoor bathtubs overlooking the jungle. Because of the way some of the villas are perched in the trees, one of the unique features of Hoshinoya Resort is its funicular system, which takes guests through the property and its lush jungle. The funicular consists of two small cable cars that run on tracks up and down the steep hillside, offering stunning views of the surrounding rice paddies and forests. The ride lasts for about 10 minutes and takes guests from the lobby area to the upper part of the resort where some of the villas are located.
Hoshinoya Resort is also committed to mindfulness and wellness. The resort offers daily yoga classes led by experienced instructors who guide guests through a series of poses designed to improve flexibility, strength, and balance. Afterward, you can indulge in a massage or spa treatment inspired by ancient Balinese healing traditions. For those seeking adventure, Hoshinoya Resort offers guided hikes through the surrounding countryside, where you can explore hidden waterfalls and learn about local flora and fauna. You can also take part in traditional Balinese ceremonies such as blessings or offerings at the resort’s own temple.
But perhaps the most memorable aspect of a stay at Hoshinoya is the sense of peace and tranquility that permeates every corner of the resort. Whether you’re lounging on your villa’s terrace listening to the sounds of nature or meditating in one of the resort’s serene gardens, you’ll feel a deep connection to Bali’s spiritual essence.
Depending on the season and accommodation, rooms start at $472 per night and can cost at least as much as $708 per night.

Wyoming’s Wind River Country Makes for the Ultimate Western Road Trip

Wyoming, in many ways, is still the Wild West. In the summer, the state entices tourists with blooming trails, mountain panoramas, and open-window road trips. But head southeast of Yellowstone, and you’ll understand why Wind River Country is an all-season destination — including during the coldest months — thanks to vibrant badlands, reservations that roam with bison, and plenty of small town charm.

History and gaming at Wind River Hotel & CasinoLearn about the land — and play slots — at The Northern Arapaho Experience Room. Located in the Wind River Hotel & Casino, this intimate museum dives into Northern Arapaho history through various artifacts, images, and stories. Call ahead of time and you can tour the museum with Arapaho elders as your guides. You’ll learn all about Arapaho history, both past and present, and gain a deeper understanding of your surroundings. Both Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone people reside on the Wind River Reservation: one of the country’s largest.

Wander around Lander

Art lovers — and shoppers — rejoice. Staying warm in the winter is all about moving those muscles, but you’ll be tempted to pause all along Lander’s main street. Start at the Lander Art Center and go forth from there. Colorful murals of Wyoming’s wildlife adorn brick buildings, while nature inspires the paintings inside local shops. Make sure to stop by Alchemy, a cooperative of artists who make and sell scenic landscapes, one-of-kind jewelry, and intricate ceramics, among other handmade creations.

Meet Wyoming’s bisonAccording to the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative, bison aren’t livestock; they’re wildlife — and you can see them for yourself. The initiative, which launched last year, aims to reintegrate buffalo into the culture and diets of tribal communities. Both Shoshone and Arapaho bison reside on the initiative’s land. Visitors are welcome, though you should reach out well in advance.

Wind River Country’s scenery is an attraction in and of itself. Perhaps no place better exemplifies the glory of Wyoming’s wilderness than Sinks Canyon State Park. Here, a snowshoe across the suspension bridge transports you into the region’s very own Narnia. If hiking isn’t enough of an activity, the park is also great for rock climbing and wildlife-spotting. For even more views, stop by the visitor’s center down the road.

National Museum of Military VehiclesWhether you’re a war buff or remember little from high school history class, this is one museum you won’t want to miss. Billionaire Dan Starks turned his personal vehicle collection into a sprawling museum that warrants more than a pitstop. It’s for this reason that tickets come with two-day access. Short on time? Don’t miss the Vietnam exhibit, which takes a multimedia approach to history. Or, take Starks’ guided tour, where the past comes to life object-by-object and story-by-story. Once your legs tire, stop by the museum’s canteen for a snack.

Snowmobile at Togwotee Mountain Lodge

Snow goes with winter like speed goes with snowmobiles, and at Togwotee Mountain Lodge, there’s no shortage of any. The lodge offers snowmobile rentals as well as guided snowmobile tours of the area’s 600 miles of trails. While snowmobiling tends to favor thrill-seekers, beginners need not steer clear; the trails range in difficulty, while the snowmobiles are especially beginner-friendly. Hold down the throttle, and you’ll feel the wind of the Winds — and see the scenery in no time.

Where to eat and drink in Wind River CountryBison, steak, and shrimp frequent menus across the region, as do pasta dishes that incorporate each of the above. In the Winds, you’ll find charming cafes, hip lunch joints, and bison-themed restaurants that do food just as well as they do ambiance.

Brown Sugar Coffee Roastery: There’s no need to grab your coffee to-go. Brown Sugar Coffee Roastery is a deceivingly spacious cafe decorated with local artwork. Equally creative, the food ranges from open-faced BLT and beet bagels to spruced-up salads and croissant sandwiches. The roastery opens for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can fuel up for the day — or wind down for the night — however and whenever you choose.
Brown Sugar Coffee Roastery: 203 E Main St, Riverton, WY 82501
Sweet Surprises Gourmet Cupcakes: What’s a road trip without snacks? This cupcake shop on Riverton’s main street offers more than cupcakes, with options that suit any kind of sweet tooth. The lemon bars are enough to convert even the most avid of chocoholics into a citrus fan, though the chocolate cupcakes certainly warrant a taste. After all, you can’t stop in a cupcake shop without grabbing a cupcake … or two, for the road.

LanderView this post on InstagramA post shared by The Middle Fork (@themiddlefork)
The Middle Fork: For a restaurant with “fork” in the name, there’s a surprising amount of finger food — and that’s a good thing. The fried chicken sandwich comes ultra-crispy and flavorful, with a spiced sriracha sauce. Although the Middle Fork is open for breakfast and the occasional dinner, lunch is the best time to order fries. Ask for a side of fry sauce; it’s a Western classic for a reason. With a laid-back vibe, The Middle Fork is a perfect stopping point — or, rather, middle point — during your road trip.
The Middle Fork: 351 Main St, Lander, WY 82520
Lander Bake Shop: Lander’s main street may not be large, but the menu at the Lander Bake Shop doesn’t skimp out. You can start your day with a drink of your choosing, whether you’re a fan of chai or can’t function without your morning latte. The scones come in a variety of flavors, as do the bagels and cream cheese.
Lander Bake Shop: 259 Main St, Lander, WY 82520
Cowfish: Mere steps from The Middle Fork, Cowfish has a menu as fun as its name. The restaurant boasts an extensive beer and cocktail list, so start with your preferred drink. While you can order plenty of cow and fish entrees, the pastas are the true stars; try the penne with cow tenderloin tips, ravioli with bison, or spaetzle with sirloin.
Cowfish: 148 Main St, Lander, WY 82520
DuboisThe Lone Buffalo Steakhouse: Located on main street Dubois, this steakhouse is all about the animals — both those on the menu and those on the wall. You’ll dine beneath bison, moose, and elk heads as you feast on salad, steak, and your choice of potato. The standout of the meal, however, isn’t any one entree, but the honey butter that accompanies the fresh, warm rolls. You’ll want to dip straight into the butter, no knife necessary.

Where to stay in Wind River Country WyomingCamping at Sinks Canyon State Park

If camping in the winter sounds extreme — not to mention cold — a yurt rental at Sinks Canyon State Park may very well change your mind. Not far from Lander, the park lets you embrace the vistas of camping with all the ease of glamping. The yurts can sleep between six to 10 people and come with either one or two bunkbeds, as well as a heater, futon, grill, porch, and picnic table. The park’s four yurts are available for rental year-round. To make matters even easier, you can park mere steps from your accommodations and save the hike for the on-site trails.

Crooked Creek Guest RanchLocated in Dubois, this 17-cabin ranch stretches more than 8,000 feet into the Wind River Mountain Range. Both the Shoshone National Forest and Togwotee Mountain Lodge are within driving distance, though you’ll have everything you need on-site. Each log cabin comes with both modern amenities — a coffee maker, shower, Wi-Fi, and heater — and creative finishing touches. Think: horseshoe coat racks, animal-patterned lampshades, tree-inspired toilet paper holders. The lodge boasts a restaurant and bar, so you can end a day of snowmobiling with a bowl of Buffalo bolognese. Depending on your timing, you may even spot the ranch’s resident moose, Lucy, poking around the lodge.

How to get to Wind River CountryFlying into Riverton is your best bet for direct access to Wind River Country. The airport offers one flight daily to and from Denver. Alternatively, you can fly into Jackson Hole or Casper and drive to the Winds.
Once there, snowshoes can only get you so far, so a car is key. You’ll want to arrange your transportation ahead of time. In Riverton, you can rent a car through Priceless. You can also book a taxi or another form of transportation via the Central Wyoming Airport.
As for driving conditions, the roads are well-maintained and mostly clear, even in the winter. You can drive at your own pace and stop for pictures along the way. Keep your eyes peeled for moose, deer, and the occasional bighorn sheep.
You Can Cook Breakfast on the Sidewalk in This Volcanic City in Japan

In the Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan, on the Izu Peninsula, a city called Atami sits in the crater of an extinct volcano on the eastern shore of Sagami Bay. Atami is known for its therapeutic hot springs, and the city’s name translates to “hot ocean.” There’s more to Atami than hot springs, however. The city’s geothermal activity also causes underground water to heat up, which can be seen in the form of steam vents throughout the area — vents so hot you can boil an egg in them.
@foodwtf@winstonbutterfield shares his experience in
#Atami #Japan where he cooked his breakfast using volcanic steam
#foodie #foodtiktok #japantravel #foodtravel ♬ original sound – Food Worth Traveling For
A TikToker named Winston Butterfield tested this theory. In the video above, Butterfield appears to set up a mesh colander over one of these steam vents, place four raw eggs inside of the colander, and wait for the steam to cook the eggs through. (Butterfield also cites chef and TV personality Alton Brown’s claim that cooking an egg in steam is superior to cooking it in boiling water because it helps to prevent the egg white from sticking to the egg shell, thus making it easier to peel.) He then blanches the egg in a faucet by the steam vent that flows with local mountain spring water and seasons the peeled egg with locally harvested sea salt from the Pacific Ocean.
This phenomenon is not unique to Atami and could theoretically be observed in other geothermal areas around the world, such as Yellowstone National Park, Rotorua in New Zealand, El Tatio in Chile, Hveragerði in Iceland, or in Beppu on the island of Kyushu in Japan (Atami is located on Honshu). Similarly, in the Azores Islands off Portugal, you can drink tea straight from a volcano. Of course, that’s not to say that you can start boiling eggs or making tea wherever you see a steam vent — a similar stunt would require you to prioritize safety and follow any guidelines or regulations set by local authorities when visiting these types of destinations.
But it sure is a cool idea for a hot breakfast.
