Wyoming’s Wind River Country Makes for the Ultimate Western Road Trip

Wyoming, in many ways, is still the Wild West. In the summer, the state entices tourists with blooming trails, mountain panoramas, and open-window road trips. But head southeast of Yellowstone, and you’ll understand why Wind River Country is an all-season destination — including during the coldest months — thanks to vibrant badlands, reservations that roam with bison, and plenty of small town charm.

History and gaming at Wind River Hotel & CasinoLearn about the land — and play slots — at The Northern Arapaho Experience Room. Located in the Wind River Hotel & Casino, this intimate museum dives into Northern Arapaho history through various artifacts, images, and stories. Call ahead of time and you can tour the museum with Arapaho elders as your guides. You’ll learn all about Arapaho history, both past and present, and gain a deeper understanding of your surroundings. Both Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone people reside on the Wind River Reservation: one of the country’s largest.

Wander around Lander

Art lovers — and shoppers — rejoice. Staying warm in the winter is all about moving those muscles, but you’ll be tempted to pause all along Lander’s main street. Start at the Lander Art Center and go forth from there. Colorful murals of Wyoming’s wildlife adorn brick buildings, while nature inspires the paintings inside local shops. Make sure to stop by Alchemy, a cooperative of artists who make and sell scenic landscapes, one-of-kind jewelry, and intricate ceramics, among other handmade creations.

Meet Wyoming’s bisonAccording to the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative, bison aren’t livestock; they’re wildlife — and you can see them for yourself. The initiative, which launched last year, aims to reintegrate buffalo into the culture and diets of tribal communities. Both Shoshone and Arapaho bison reside on the initiative’s land. Visitors are welcome, though you should reach out well in advance.

Wind River Country’s scenery is an attraction in and of itself. Perhaps no place better exemplifies the glory of Wyoming’s wilderness than Sinks Canyon State Park. Here, a snowshoe across the suspension bridge transports you into the region’s very own Narnia. If hiking isn’t enough of an activity, the park is also great for rock climbing and wildlife-spotting. For even more views, stop by the visitor’s center down the road.

National Museum of Military VehiclesWhether you’re a war buff or remember little from high school history class, this is one museum you won’t want to miss. Billionaire Dan Starks turned his personal vehicle collection into a sprawling museum that warrants more than a pitstop. It’s for this reason that tickets come with two-day access. Short on time? Don’t miss the Vietnam exhibit, which takes a multimedia approach to history. Or, take Starks’ guided tour, where the past comes to life object-by-object and story-by-story. Once your legs tire, stop by the museum’s canteen for a snack.

Snowmobile at Togwotee Mountain Lodge

Snow goes with winter like speed goes with snowmobiles, and at Togwotee Mountain Lodge, there’s no shortage of any. The lodge offers snowmobile rentals as well as guided snowmobile tours of the area’s 600 miles of trails. While snowmobiling tends to favor thrill-seekers, beginners need not steer clear; the trails range in difficulty, while the snowmobiles are especially beginner-friendly. Hold down the throttle, and you’ll feel the wind of the Winds — and see the scenery in no time.

Where to eat and drink in Wind River CountryBison, steak, and shrimp frequent menus across the region, as do pasta dishes that incorporate each of the above. In the Winds, you’ll find charming cafes, hip lunch joints, and bison-themed restaurants that do food just as well as they do ambiance.

Brown Sugar Coffee Roastery: There’s no need to grab your coffee to-go. Brown Sugar Coffee Roastery is a deceivingly spacious cafe decorated with local artwork. Equally creative, the food ranges from open-faced BLT and beet bagels to spruced-up salads and croissant sandwiches. The roastery opens for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can fuel up for the day — or wind down for the night — however and whenever you choose.

Sweet Surprises Gourmet Cupcakes: What’s a road trip without snacks? This cupcake shop on Riverton’s main street offers more than cupcakes, with options that suit any kind of sweet tooth. The lemon bars are enough to convert even the most avid of chocoholics into a citrus fan, though the chocolate cupcakes certainly warrant a taste. After all, you can’t stop in a cupcake shop without grabbing a cupcake … or two, for the road.

The Middle Fork: For a restaurant with “fork” in the name, there’s a surprising amount of finger food — and that’s a good thing. The fried chicken sandwich comes ultra-crispy and flavorful, with a spiced sriracha sauce. Although the Middle Fork is open for breakfast and the occasional dinner, lunch is the best time to order fries. Ask for a side of fry sauce; it’s a Western classic for a reason. With a laid-back vibe, The Middle Fork is a perfect stopping point — or, rather, middle point — during your road trip.
The Middle Fork: 351 Main St, Lander, WY 82520
Lander Bake Shop: Lander’s main street may not be large, but the menu at the Lander Bake Shop doesn’t skimp out. You can start your day with a drink of your choosing, whether you’re a fan of chai or can’t function without your morning latte. The scones come in a variety of flavors, as do the bagels and cream cheese.
Lander Bake Shop: 259 Main St, Lander, WY 82520
Cowfish: Mere steps from The Middle Fork, Cowfish has a menu as fun as its name. The restaurant boasts an extensive beer and cocktail list, so start with your preferred drink. While you can order plenty of cow and fish entrees, the pastas are the true stars; try the penne with cow tenderloin tips, ravioli with bison, or spaetzle with sirloin.
Cowfish: 148 Main St, Lander, WY 82520
DuboisThe Lone Buffalo Steakhouse: Located on main street Dubois, this steakhouse is all about the animals — both those on the menu and those on the wall. You’ll dine beneath bison, moose, and elk heads as you feast on salad, steak, and your choice of potato. The standout of the meal, however, isn’t any one entree, but the honey butter that accompanies the fresh, warm rolls. You’ll want to dip straight into the butter, no knife necessary.

If camping in the winter sounds extreme — not to mention cold — a yurt rental at Sinks Canyon State Park may very well change your mind. Not far from Lander, the park lets you embrace the vistas of camping with all the ease of glamping. The yurts can sleep between six to 10 people and come with either one or two bunkbeds, as well as a heater, futon, grill, porch, and picnic table. The park’s four yurts are available for rental year-round. To make matters even easier, you can park mere steps from your accommodations and save the hike for the on-site trails.

Crooked Creek Guest RanchLocated in Dubois, this 17-cabin ranch stretches more than 8,000 feet into the Wind River Mountain Range. Both the Shoshone National Forest and Togwotee Mountain Lodge are within driving distance, though you’ll have everything you need on-site. Each log cabin comes with both modern amenities — a coffee maker, shower, Wi-Fi, and heater — and creative finishing touches. Think: horseshoe coat racks, animal-patterned lampshades, tree-inspired toilet paper holders. The lodge boasts a restaurant and bar, so you can end a day of snowmobiling with a bowl of Buffalo bolognese. Depending on your timing, you may even spot the ranch’s resident moose, Lucy, poking around the lodge.

How to get to Wind River CountryFlying into Riverton is your best bet for direct access to Wind River Country. The airport offers one flight daily to and from Denver. Alternatively, you can fly into Jackson Hole or Casper and drive to the Winds.
Once there, snowshoes can only get you so far, so a car is key. You’ll want to arrange your transportation ahead of time. In Riverton, you can rent a car through Priceless. You can also book a taxi or another form of transportation via the Central Wyoming Airport.
As for driving conditions, the roads are well-maintained and mostly clear, even in the winter. You can drive at your own pace and stop for pictures along the way. Keep your eyes peeled for moose, deer, and the occasional bighorn sheep.
You Can Cook Breakfast on the Sidewalk in This Volcanic City in Japan

In the Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan, on the Izu Peninsula, a city called Atami sits in the crater of an extinct volcano on the eastern shore of Sagami Bay. Atami is known for its therapeutic hot springs, and the city’s name translates to “hot ocean.” There’s more to Atami than hot springs, however. The city’s geothermal activity also causes underground water to heat up, which can be seen in the form of steam vents throughout the area — vents so hot you can boil an egg in them.
@foodwtf@winstonbutterfield shares his experience in
#Atami #Japan where he cooked his breakfast using volcanic steam
#foodie #foodtiktok #japantravel #foodtravel ♬ original sound – Food Worth Traveling For
A TikToker named Winston Butterfield tested this theory. In the video above, Butterfield appears to set up a mesh colander over one of these steam vents, place four raw eggs inside of the colander, and wait for the steam to cook the eggs through. (Butterfield also cites chef and TV personality Alton Brown’s claim that cooking an egg in steam is superior to cooking it in boiling water because it helps to prevent the egg white from sticking to the egg shell, thus making it easier to peel.) He then blanches the egg in a faucet by the steam vent that flows with local mountain spring water and seasons the peeled egg with locally harvested sea salt from the Pacific Ocean.
This phenomenon is not unique to Atami and could theoretically be observed in other geothermal areas around the world, such as Yellowstone National Park, Rotorua in New Zealand, El Tatio in Chile, Hveragerði in Iceland, or in Beppu on the island of Kyushu in Japan (Atami is located on Honshu). Similarly, in the Azores Islands off Portugal, you can drink tea straight from a volcano. Of course, that’s not to say that you can start boiling eggs or making tea wherever you see a steam vent — a similar stunt would require you to prioritize safety and follow any guidelines or regulations set by local authorities when visiting these types of destinations.
But it sure is a cool idea for a hot breakfast.

Is it better to fly or take the train from Paris to Barcelona?Choosing between taking the train or flying between between Paris and Barcelona is more of a personal preference than a no-brainer.
There are up to three daily direct, high-speed train between Paris and Barcelona and the trip takes 6.5 hours, whereas there are many flights from Paris to Barcelona daily and they take one hour and 45 minutes. Of course, knowing that you need to make your way to Charles de Gaulle Airport that’s located about one hour by train from the center of Paris, and that you need to be at the airport two hours prior to your international flight, choosing the train may be the most convenient and stress-free option. But it all depends on your schedule.
As far as price is concerned, to score a deal on your train ticket, you need to book your journey in advance on the website French railway company SNCF. Airlines (low-cost or otherwise) might offer prices that are in par with you might see on the SNCF booking system.
In terms of comfort, the seats and offerings on the TGV InOui beats what you’ll get in an airplane, but the trip is much longer.
Taking the train is the greener option of the two, with a much smaller carbon footprint than flying. By riding the train you emit 65 times less carbon dioxide than if you were to take the same journey by plane, the SNCF reports.

The Ice Palace has been a fixture at Jungfraujoch since 1931, when it was first built as a tourist attraction. Over the years, the palace has undergone several renovations and expansions, and it now covers an area of over 53,800 square feet. It includes an ice bar, an ice chapel, and a number of other sculptures and exhibits.
The Ice Palace is open all year round, but is especially magical in winter when it’s blanketed in snow. If you’re visiting during winter, make sure to dress warmly. The temperature inside stays at a constant 23 degrees, so you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of layers to keep warm.
In addition to the Ice Palace, there are several other attractions at Jungfraujoch, including an observatory deck, a Sphinx Observatory, and a Alpine Sensation Exhibit. You can also take a cable car ride or go hiking in the area. Jungfraujoch is also known as the “Top of Europe” because it is the highest railway station in Europe. It is located 11,333 feet above sea level, making it an ideal spot to visit if you want to experience the Swiss Alps in all their glory.
Cheap Eats in Tulum, Mexico: Tasty Restaurants You Need To Try

Once a crowd-free coastal destination in Mexico, Tulum is now one of Mexico’s most popular destinations, which means it has a large tourist infrastructure for a small town on the Riviera Maya. That includes a variety of restaurants where you’ll find everything from traditional cuisine to international fusion dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. One downside to Tulum’s food scene is the cost, especially compared to other destinations in Mexico, with high-end restaurants and trendy beach clubs charging prices comparable to those found in major cities. But even if Tulum no longer harbors one of Mexico’s underrated beaches, you can still eat well there on a budget — starting with these two restaurants.
Sabor de MarSabor de Mar is a seafood restaurant with two locations in central Tulum. The restaurant specializes in fresh, locally caught seafood dishes, with a large menu that features everything from ceviches, aguachile, and tuna tartare to tacos, tostadas, and whole grilled fish. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available. Patrons have their choice of indoor or outdoor seating at Sabor de Mar, which has an overall laid-back beach vibe, but the outdoor seating is particularly popular with tables set up under palm trees and twinkling lights.

La CofradiaIf you and your travel companions can’t decide between Mexican food or something more Americanized, but everyone agrees that they want a quick and simple meal at an easygoing restaurant with just enough ambiance, La Cofradia is the place for you. The menu is heavy on quesadillas, huevos (egg) dishes, and pizza — according to the owner, La Cofradia serves the best pizza in all of Tulum.

Everything You Need To Know About Iceberg Alley, Newfoundland’s Dramatic Stretch of Icebergs

Iceberg Alley is a stretch of coastline along the northeastern coast of North America, extending from Newfoundland to Maine. It’s named for the large number of icebergs that drift down from the Arctic each year. Though it might sound bit nerve-wracking, traveling through Iceberg Alley is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see some of the world’s most incredible natural wonders up close.

Iceberg season typically runs from April to June, but the exact timing can vary from year to year depending on weather conditions. The best time to see icebergs is typically early in the season, before they start melting and breaking apart. However, even if you miss the early part of iceberg season, there will still be plenty of beautiful icebergs to see later in the season.
There are a few different places along Iceberg Alley where you can get up close and personal with these giants of the sea. The most popular spot is probably Twillingate, which is located about halfway up Iceberg Alley on Newfoundland’s northeast coast. From here, you can take boat tours out onto the water for an up-close look at the icebergs, or go hiking and whale watching along the coastline. Other popular spots along Iceberg Alley include Gros Morne National Park, Cape Spear Lighthouse, and St. John’s.
If you do decide to venture to Iceberg Alley, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First of all, dress warmly. Even if it’s summertime, the temperature can be quite cool on the water. The best way to get there is by flying into St. John’s International Airport (YYT). From there, you can rent a car and drive to Cape Spear National Historic Site, which is about a two-hour drive.

Mae is hosting three separate stays at The Prince’s Head, located in Richmond, London, just around the corner from Ted Lasso’s apartment. The classic English pub is a gathering place for local soccer (football?) fans, and an unofficial meeting place for AFC Richmond players on the TV show. Each one-night stay will enable guests to play a round of darts, sit at Ted’s favorite table in the pub, sing karaoke, and sip on English tea.
“The Crown & Anchor is an essential fixture for AFC Richmond,” says Annette Badland, who’s hosting the stay. “it’s where friends, colleagues and teammates come together to celebrate our triumphs or cope with the agony of relegation. That’s why I’m pleased to host guests (and take the night off!). Time to give others the opportunity to experience the same camaraderie and sense of community that Coach Lasso inspires. After all, we’re Richmond ‘til we die!”
Fans can request to book this stay starting on March 21 at 1pm EST. And of course, stay tuned for the new season of the show, which premieres on Wednesday, March 15.
