Consoling Angel gets 4 Stars from Two Ends of a Bookshelf!

Thank you to Two Ends of a Bookshelf for taking the time to read and review, Consoling Angel!

Here is a snippet of what she had to say: “I think Consoling Angel is a good read. It’s something I would surely remember. It is short, but compelling. The short scene of Mira and James Dean is well written that it didn’t feel rush at all despite it being only a few pages. To be honest, this book actually made me teary because of its bittersweet ending. ”

Blogging Platforms: Which One Is For You?

Blogging Platforms: Which One Is For You?

There are so many platforms to choose from nowadays and if we’re new or considering a move, you have to know all your options. What do you do? Do you go to a website and compare?  Do you talk to your friends and use their experiences?

The two platforms that I am going to focus on are Blogger and WordPress. Keep in mind this is based on my own opinions and experiences with both platforms. I used blogger in the beginning and it was very good to me until one day my blog got shut down by Google due it’s robot finding spam. I wasn’t pleased about it and from there I started looking into new, WordPress. It’s been great most of the time until I found about hackers and spam. Platforms are great, both have their cons and I’ve provided a nice list. Hoping this helps.

Blogger:

Pros

Free and Easy to use.
There is a social media package with included free email address.
No CSS or HTML to deal with  (no dealing with codes)
No crazy ads or spam.
It’s also a great starter platform.

Cons

Limited in its design.
It’s limited as to what it can do.
Your blog can be deleted at any point via Google under their terms and agreements.
Your address is at .blogspot.com. You’d have to pay extra for a domain.

WordPress

Pros

Has a professional look to it.
You can get it through a managed host such as Godaddy, Bluehost and Dreamhost.
Is great for multimedia blogs that have podcasts.
Has tons of plugins that will do anything from social media to forms, etc.
Has multiple themes which you can choose from, but also buy themes.

Cons

Security Flaws and Attacks –it can be hacked so its necessary to have protection in the form of plugins or from your host.
Not optimized for larger websites.
E-commerce websites not as supported or can’t find plugins that help that much.

Workshop: Storytelling Through the Anxiety Curve — presented by Sally J Walker

Storytelling Through the Anxiety Curve — presented by Sally J Walker

October 7-November 2, 2013

Registration: http://www.rwa.org/e/in/eid=178

Humans exist in varying states of anxiety allowing for survival. This writing workshop of lecture and writing exercises will teach you how to identify stress and coping mechanisms in fictional characters that will create a marketable short story or novel. From envisioning those dynamic, vivid characters to screwing up a “normal day,” your creativity will be challenged through brief exercises and class discussions.

Born to poor farm folk in the little rural community of Exira, Iowa, Sally attended many schools in western Iowa and the Omaha, Nebraska, area. She eventually graduated from Papillion (NE) High School then nursing school at the University of Albuquerque and, eventually received a BFA in Creative Writing back at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. That degree was accomplished while working full-time as a Critical Care/ER nurse and raising a very active family of three daughters with her engineer husband. Adeptly juggling family, nursing, civic and Episcopal church responsibilities, Sally founded in 1985 and has conducted the weekly meetings of the eclectic Nebraska Writers Workshop www.nebraskawritersworkshop.info to feed her own hunger for in-depth knowledge and skills. The Workshop has grown from a few tentative to over 50 confidently publishing and produced writers. Her own goal-oriented writing ethic has resulted in a vitae packed with novels, short stories, poetry, magazine articles, stage plays, screenplays and a variety of writing seminars. In 2000 she was hired as part-time Editorial Director at The Fiction Works www.fictionworks.com and Script Superviser for the affiliated Misty Mountain Productionswww.mistymtnproductions.com . After retiring from her nursing career of over 30 years, she was elected President of the prestigious Nebraska Writers Guild www.nebraskawriters.org, serving 2007-2011.

Cover Reveal – The Fragile Things by V. Shaw!

The Fragile Things PI FragileThingsPII

Two girls on the road to self-destruction.

A village upon the brink of collapse.

A past which refused to die.

The beginning of an epic four-part horror serial

Have you ever had a friend you’d die for? One you’d kill for?

At seventeen-years-old, Jennifer should have the world at her feet. Instead, she’s an ex-heroin addict living in a council estate with Tony, her boyfriend and former dealer. Shunned by her family and friends, she dreams of something greater than she’s been given.

Beautiful and strange, Ebony has moved in across the street. She’s just lost the one person in her lonely existence to cancer. She’s also a centuries-old vampire, struggling to cope with murderous outbursts and the desire to be something more.

When these two lost souls meet, an unusual friendship begins.

But with the news of Morris, Tony’s sadistic best friend and drug-dealing partner, being released from prison, Jennifer knows it’s only a matter of time before his path of vengeance leads to her and Ebony, too.
