Writing is Easy — Waiting is HARD!

I'm playing a waiting game — driving myself a bit crazy while waiting to hear back from test readers. Will they like the first draft of my new novel? Will they give me notes that help me create something special?

Wait, Wait, Wait...

A Monster Meditation on my Candy's Monsters blog...

Resolution Time!

My first Monster Meditation of 2015 is about resolutions...

Surprise, surprise, writers are just as likely to make impossible pledges as the rest of the world. Why not try a "doable" resolution?

Check out my post and please share your ideas.

Show Don't Tell...

Authors know that revealing a character's inner life is sometimes best shown and not discussed. I'm sharing a first hand experience with SHOW DON'T TELL.

How an encounter with a selfish woman at the gym, became a useful character study...

Check it out and share your observations of how characters reveal themselves in real life and in fiction.

Walk Like This...

Authors use all sorts of descriptions to communicate the inner life of characters as reflected on the outside. Clothes, food choices, cars, musical taste... and so much more. I'm suggesting that writers consider the WALK of a character, too.

Spies, Lies & Moral Ambiguity

How GOOD does a good character have to be? That's a difficult question to answer in a spy thriller.

This genre fiction is full of moral ambiguity and "good" characters who do "bad" things. Check out my new Monster Meditation on the subject of Spies & Lies.
