guest Morticia Knight

A warm renewed welcome to Morticia Knight!

Thank you for having me back at your blog S. Dora! This is a post that I recently shared, but it talks a little bit about what goes in to writing a series where it’s not the same main characters all the way through. We all know that Ana and Christian are the only MC’s in Fifty Shades, and every time you finish one book, you’re ready to “buy now with 1-click” to get to the rest of the story. I have nothing against serializations – it’s great to stay with the same characters and worlds, but it has been a while since I’d read a series that was set in the same location, with a similar theme – but the characters weren’t necessarily all connected to one another.

In my Uniform Encounters series, each book involves men in uniform. There are firemen, a detective, ER doctor and paramedic. Yummy! But each book focuses on the relationships between two different main characters. I don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say that everyone gets a chance to meet up again in the final installment. I enjoyed writing a series this way though, because it gave me the chance to look at the lives of several different characters in similar professions, living in the same city, and dealing with the same types of issues. Each one handles their life and loves in different ways, so it was a challenge, but also very fulfilling.

Arresting Behaviour – Book 2 in the series – just came out last week, and has already hit the All Romance and Amazon Bestseller lists, and I am super excited about it. I think it’s because the explosive chemistry and sexual tension between these two men just clicked for me. I also love a good murder mystery, and so I went all out for this one. Read on for a little taste of my boys.

Blurb:

Native American Quinn and Detective Jake come from two opposing worlds. But when opposites attract, the result is explosive.

The Bondage Butcher has just claimed his third victim, and newly promoted homicide detective Jake Gutierrez is anxious to speak to the one man who has been intimate with all three victims—Quinn Verdugo. The reclusive and mysterious artist and poet stays just out of Jake’s grasp, until one night when they catch him trespassing at his ancestor’s ancient ruins.

Quinn is devastated by the recent murders, and for the men he once dallied with. Not trusting his heart to anyone since a cruel rejection in his teens, he trusts the police department of Mesa, Arizona even less. He is determined to find the bastard who is committing these gruesome murders, and take care of things himself.

When Jake and Quinn finally meet face to face in the interrogation room, both men are startled at the direction things take. Agreeing to work together, they have no idea the dangers they have yet to face. But what is more dangerous – the murderer, or the spark that has been created between the two very combustible men.

Excerpt:

He was in dangerous territory by staying alone with the man at his place. There couldn’t be any nonsense going on between them. Besides, Quinn hadn’t exactly invited him over, he had just barged his way in. Now he was feeling foolish. Had he overstepped his boundaries? It was just that he’d been so upset when Quinn had told him about the previous night—a knot of fear had settled in his stomach at the thought of that sick bastard being alone with Quinn, touching him, getting ready to do God-knows-what.

He would be completely professional. He was only there to keep watch. That was it.

It was going to be a long night.

He also needed to head to the station early in the morning to make sure that the whole poetry night sting was set, and brief the lieutenant on his progress. Plus, he had to follow up on the list Quinn had given him of previous partners. He couldn’t just remain glued to Quinn’s side, even if that did seem like a nice idea.

Down boy.

He could feel a stirring in his jeans, and wasn’t sure all the resolve in the world would help him if he were to arrive at Quinn’s place with a hard-on.

They got there ten minutes later, and Jake felt he had himself under control. It was a gorgeous starry night, and he marvelled at the display in the sky this far out from the city lights. That was one of his favourite things about the desert—everything seemed much purer out there.

He jumped out of his truck as Quinn languidly got out of his car then walked towards him. He had the briefest sensation the man was going to punch him or something, because his pace quickened and he moved with such intent. The light from the waning full moon illuminated Quinn’s graceful and sexy form as he drew nearer. Just as he got to him, Quinn reached out, grabbed the back of Jake’s head and clamped his mouth onto Jake’s lips.

His breath was startled right out of him, but all he could do was melt against Quinn’s muscled body, and reach up to twine his fingers in the man’s glorious mane of hair. This was exactly what he wasn’t supposed to be doing, but all reason and sanity had disappeared once Quinn had locked lips with his.

There was nothing polite or reserved in the kiss. It was raw and feral, and everything Jake had dreamt it would be. They used their hands everywhere on each other’s body, as Quinn continued to plunder Jake’s mouth. He felt himself being guided towards Quinn’s front door. At some point, Quinn managed to get it open—no lock as he’d said—and they stumbled inside, still tangled up with each other. Quinn kept pushing Jake farther in, and he began to feel the smallest stirrings of concern.

It’s not right. I shouldn’t—not yet.

Guest Genevieve Bergeron

Please give a warm welcome my fellow author Genevieve Bergeron.

What If?

The most common question I get as a new erotica author—probably that any erotica author receives, I’m sure—is, “Where do you get your ideas?”

Me? Two words: What if?

What if everyone around me were completely naked? In a restaurant over on K Street (where I live in Washington, DC), what if the young woman with russet hair and a wool pantsuit seduced the busboy in black and white? What if the restaurant had a private bathroom—would it be big enough for a quickie? What if the busboy were secretly gay and the young, handsome lawyer (he’d just ordered risotto) caught the busboy’s eye?

So, to answer their question simply, I get my ideas from all around. I observe. Then I bend reality, some heat, an overactive imagination—and enjoy the results immensely.

That’s where I got the idea for my first two novellas—Hyperpersonal, Hypersexual and Sorry, Bro—I think of people and places I know and let my characters run amok.

That’s why Sorry, Bro was so easy to write. I used to live in New Orleans; I set Sorry, Bro there. I’ve known college baseball players; I just put two of them together in a love triangle with a smokin’ hot surgeon. While I’ve never known a surgeon, I have known doctors, and goodness, can they get a heart pumping!

Now that you know a little bit about me, I hope you’ll grab your own copy of Sorry, Bro, visit New Orleans in your imagination, and experience the story of Bryce, Tim and Adrian as they struggle through love and loss together.

Happy reading!

xo,

Gen

Blurb

Still aching from the mistakes and denials of his past, this ER nurse could heal anyone but himself…until now.

Handsome, athletic and intelligent, twenty-six-year-old Bryce should be living the high life.

But he’s far from it.

After shunning his best baseball buddy in high school, dropping out of medical school and fleeing New York to put down roots—if only shallow ones—in New Orleans, Bryce is uncertain about both his past and his future. Working long hours as a low-level nurse and confined by a sexless relationship with a questionably devoted girlfriend, Bryce can’t shake the feeling that things should be somehow better now he’s escaped the confusion and indecision of his former life.

Yet when the ghost of Bryce’s high school past, the handsome and charismatic Tim, shows up injured in the ER, Bryce’s already turbulent emotions engulf him in a vortex of confusion and regret. Haunted by his own insensitivity towards Tim eight years before, Bryce first finds comfort in the powerful arms of a resident surgeon he barely knows, then gives Tim the explosive, cataclysmic relief he had denied him in high school. As Bryce comes to terms with his sexuality and recognises his undeniable attraction to both men, he must decide, once and for all, where his fidelity—and his desires—lie.

Sage Marlowe on tour

SM Banner blog tour May13

Please give fellow m/m author Sage Marlowe a very warm welcome. And remember: there are some very nice goodies to be had. I mean, create your own character and inspire Sage, who doesn’t want that?

Hello and welcome to the latest stop of my 1st Anniversary Blog Tour & Giveaway. One year has passed since my successful debut novel, Sub-Mission, was released on May 14, 2012, and a lot has happened during those twelve months. I’m taking the chance to look back and tell you a bit about the background of the books I’ve published, but also about things that happened in my life or that are on my mind. There’s one stop for every book, and of course, there are prizes waiting for you, because as always, good things for me mean good things for you, my dear friends and readers. Please read the “Giveaway” section below for details.

Today I’m sitting down for an interview with the talented S. Dora.

1.  What do you love about writing? And what do you hate about it?

There are several things that I adore about writing but above all, it allows me to escape into different realities and, in a way, live different people’s lives. Sometimes when I can focus on writing enough to get into the right headspace, I can delve into a story and connect to my characters to the point where I no longer just write about them but live their story with them. It’s an amazing feeling.

The only downsides to writing or rather to being an author is having to keep an eye on the market. When I wrote just for myself it was easy to go with the flow and let the story take its way, but publishing means settling for some compromises. Oh, and blurbs. I hate writing blurbs.

2.  Who is your favourite character? Please tell a bit more about him.

Hm, it’s hard to pick one favourite. All of my characters are wonderful in their own way and I can’t possibly narrow it down to one favourite. The ones who will always be special to me are Noah Conway (Sub-series), Caelan Stokes (Ink, Sweat and Tears) and of course Jazz Spencer (Phoenix). All three of them, different though they are, have issues to deal with and their not always easy to handle, but they’re all very loveable.

3.  Do you write one story at a time, or are you a multi-project writer?

I always have several projects on the go. Usually I pick one of them that I focus on and really aim to finish, but if I get stuck or another story calls out to me more, I’ll pursue that.

4.  What attracts you to writing m/m and gay fiction?

My characters. They just happen to all be gay guys. Well, seriously now, I just find it a lot easier to write characters that I can relate to. Women and especially their roles in (heterosexual) relationships are mostly a mystery to me, so I find it hard to write about them. Oh, and the sex, of course *grins*

5.  What is your favourite book by another writer?

Oh no, you’re asking about favourites again… There are tons of fantastic books out there and naming just one would be unfair. A book I have recently read and that has left a very deep impression was Second Chances by Tom Webb. I also love Harper Fox’s Driftwood, and basically all her books, but I’m also a big fan of the classics. Wuthering Heights is definitely a favourite too. I could go on and on, but those are the ones that come to mind first.

6.  What is your ideal writing spot? And what is your actual writing spot?

I love the idea of having a room all to myself and my writing. It doesn’t have to be big, but all in whites, with a thick, fluffy carpet and a comfy sofa or chair that I can curl up in with my laptop.

My actual writing spot is on the sofa, the kitchen table or in bed with either phone or laptop. I’m flexible that way.

7.  Can you tell a bit more about your book? Perhaps you’d like to share a little peek with us?

A Taste of Paradise was one of those stories that was begging to be written and it was delightfully easy to write. It holds the record as my fastest written story (nine days) which is probably due to the tropical island setting that made me feel like I was on holiday even though I was working. It’s one of my early works and possibly a little underrated, because it really is a pretty funny and sweet story about two men finding their match when they least expect it. I believe that sometimes a single short moment in a person’s life is enough to change them forever, and that is what happens in Paradise. Riordan is so caught up in his career that he doesn’t even realise that life passes him by and he needs to be forced to slow down and get a different perspective on things. It was fascinating to see him understand what he was missing out on. Marc is also a great character. He comes across all relaxed and easy-going, but he hides a far deeper and fragile side. I really loved seeing those two make their way and open each others’ eyes.

My personal recommendation is to read this book on a sunny day, preferably on the beach and with a cocktail or two in your hand—you’ll understand why when you read it.

  sm-atasteofparadise3

A Taste of Paradise

Is one involuntary taste of paradise all it takes to change the lives of Riordan and Marc?

For all his life, Riordan Maguire has chosen his career over feelings. He prefers to have even the most basic emotional needs satisfied with the help of professionals, but his attitude gets challenged when a wrong flight booking on a business trip takes him to a peaceful little tropical island instead of his intended destination. Finding himself stranded for a week, he meets Marc Forrester, a social worker with summer-sky-blue eyes, a sunny look at life, and a heart bruised by too many inconsiderate lovers—lovers like Riordan. They begin an affair which to Riordan is nothing but a suitable arrangement, and Marc knows his own weaknesses well enough to realise that his instant attraction to Riordan only proves that they don’t stand a chance—but maybe one involuntary taste of paradise is all it takes to change their lives.

What a lovely surprise to discover that Three has been reviewed by Samhain Queene at Dark Divas and was rewarded with five Delighful Divas.

“Three is a wonderfully crafted story of three people falling in love. S. Dora has created three characters who need each other in a unique way. She has also shown that love doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Compromise and understanding are the true basis for any relationship.”

The next best thing

I’ve been tagged by Maggie Nash for the ongoing “What are you working on” thread by both new and established writers.

Here are my answers to the questions:

1) What is the working title of your next book?

Calling the Shots 3

2) Where did the idea come from for the book?

Simple, Isaac and Tom weren’t done yet.

3) What genre does your book fall under?

M/M, romantic BDSM or D/S

4) What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

A movie rendition? You’re making a joke, right? But seriously, have no idea. I’m probably the writer with the least visual imagination you could ever hope to meet.

5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Reluctant Dom Isaac can’t believe himself when he surprises his lover and sub Tom with a visit to the playroom of a BDSM club.

6) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Part one and two have been published by Total E-Bound, so I hope they’ll like this one well enough to publish Part three as well.

7) How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

In leaps and bounds, because life just happened in a big way in the past months. So I really don’t know, but much longer than I intended.

8) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

That’s a reader’s job, isn’t it? ;-)

9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I wanted to write a story about a Dominant who isn’t oozing dominance and never will, even if he learns to gradually accept he actually enjoys the D/s part of his relationship with Tom.

10) What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?

The psychology.

You’re a writer with a first/new book coming up of any genre or rating? You want to be part of The next best thing? Let me know.

interview with H.C. Brown

Please welcome my guest, H.C. Brown. She will be telling about herself and about her work. She will also be sharing a hot excerpt from her latest Hurt Me Good.

Welcome, H.C. Brown! It’s lovely to have you as my guest. A quick look at your list of publications and it’s clear you are a writer of many talents. What genre is closest to your heart?

H.C.  Thank you so much for having me today. It’s so nice to visit another author of BDSM .

I love writing M/M Erotic BDSM with a touch of adventure  and M/F or M/F/M Fantasy/paranormal Erotic Romance  about the same, so I usually alternate those genres.

Is it difficult for you to move on from one (main) character to the next? Do you have a strong preference for a certain kind of hero?

H.C. I hate to say goodbye to the characters that have lived in my head for three months or longer , so I write a lot of series.

Do you remember how you felt when your first book was accepted by a publisher?

H.C. The feeling never changes. Disbelief at first I think, and then the Happy Dancing quickly follows.

What do you enjoy the most about writing? And what the least?

H.C. I write every day of my life. What I hate is not having time to write more. I have a set time for writing and do six hours straight through. The rest of my day is the usual things we do plus emails and promotion for my books. I usually work on three or four stories at once so I’m always busy.

I know that (almost) all writers are readers. What is your preferred reading material?

H.C. I love historical romance especially about Scottish highlanders. Love Diana Gabaldon.

6. Do you have time for any hobbies?

H.C. I like to walk on the beach and I paint. I love to paint warriors fighting or dragons. I do fantasy scenes, unicorns and faeries too. Not that I have much time to paint anymore.

7. What is your latest publication? Please tell us as much about it as you want.

H.C. Hurt Me Good came into my head after seeing a friend’s tattoo. We had a chat about his time as a stripper in gay clubs and how, he made the ink come to life in his act. We talked about many things that night about leather clubs and stripping in general. The conversation replayed in my mind and formed the story Hurt Me Good and the sequel I’m writing now. Although, all of the events in my stories are fictional. The conversation was just the catalyst.

It had to be a D/s story.

I’ve been around rock ‘n’ roll all my adult life, so Hurt Me Good and Take Me, Break Me, another story with Dreamspinner coming out March 2013 are set in the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle and in Hurt Me Good,  I introduced an arrogant vanilla stripper  with a  lurid past into the mix called Flame.

Here is the book trailer for Hurt Me Good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-yAKiV8-c8&feature=youtu.be

Here’s an excerpt of Hurt Me Good.  ADULTS ONLY:

Sweat stung his eyes. His muscles cramped. The overexertion burned, sizzling through shoulders to biceps shuddering with effort. The weight bar slipped in Harper Cole’s damp grasp. The massive weight dropped, stopping inches from crushing his neck. He gripped the bar tighter. Pain radiated through his jaw from clenched teeth. He panted. I’m like a fucking woman in labor.

“Put your back into it!—One more. Come on, you fucking wimp,” his spotter screamed.

“Fuck you.” Harper dragged in a deep breath, gritted his teeth, and shoved from his gut.

The barbell slammed into the frame. Giddy from exertion, Harper slowly rolled up. Although he wanted to cuss out his cousin, Josh, he grinned. “That’s enough for today. Thanks for spotting me, man.”

“Enough?” Josh eyed him critically. “You spend too much time in your office. You’re getting soft.” He raised a brow. “You used to be fit, man. Fuck, only two years ago you were rocking out on stage with Too Hotz and doing world tours. Being a millionaire has turned you into a pussy.”

Harper peeled the long, sweat-soaked strands of hair from his face and secured the shoulder-length mass with a strip of leather. “Soft? I work out every day.” Admittedly, not like the torturous session he had endured today. Josh had pushed him to the limit. Fuck, his arms ached like a bitch.

“You need to be moved out of your comfort zone.” Josh shrugged. “Or you’ll end up with a barrel instead of a six-pack.”

With a grunt, Harper glared at Josh. “I can beat your best by ten presses, wimp.”

“Oh yeah?” Josh raised a brow. “Are you challenging me, cuz?”

“Fuck yeah. Every morning, here, at eight,” Harper growled. “No one beats me.”

“You’re on.” Josh narrowed his eyes. “One week will sort out who has the biggest balls.”

“I’ve won already.” Harper smirked and rolled his numb shoulders. His gaze drifted across the gym. A vision of male perfection sliced into his line of sight. Wearing nothing but a baggy blue T-shirt and a towel slung low about his narrow waist, the young man moved with seductive grace toward him. The delectable apparition stopped less than five feet away. A sharp stab of awareness curled in Harper’s balls. Damn. The sweet thing went up on his toes to collect a fresh towel from the stack beside the door to the sauna. The vision reached up to the shelf and exposed a glimpse of tight buttocks.

This twink had everything Harper craved for in a sub, including the small nubile body and delicate features to the shock of ruby hair. The man had cut his hair very short above his ears. From the crown of his head silken strands fell over one side of his face. The rest of the long center mass had been styled in a wide Mohawk fashion. The top spilled over, sending a cascade of red tumbling down to the twink’s shoulders. Harper’s gaze dropped to the diamond studs glistened in both ears. Hmm—high maintenance.

Groaning inwardly, Harper took in the arched brows, the full lips held in a sullen pout. Hot damn, the look of insolence in the boy’s deep blue eyes made Harper’s cock throb in anticipation. He shut his mouth with a click. Shit, had he been staring openmouthed at the tempting man? How fucking infantile was that? Dragging air into his lungs, he lifted his chin toward the young man heading into the sauna. He pounded a fist against his heart. “Have… mercy.” His gaze followed the guy across the room. Fuck, he would get off just rimming the sweet thing’s navel. “Now that is a wet dream walking.”

“Don’t waste your time.” Josh ran a hand through his hair. “The boy is vanilla all the way. Trust me, many have tried to get close but that guy might as well live on a different planet.” He threw a towel at Harper. “Not even you will be able to win him over.”

With a growl of disgust, Harper turned to his cousin. The man had a “you’re fucked”grin. “Is that another challenge, cuz? Nah, don’t bother. That sweet boy is mine.” He scratched the itchy day-old bristles on his chin. “What do you know about him? How old is he?”

“That delicious piece of ass is a dancer by the name of Flame. I met him on a shoot I did last month for Rock On magazine. He does a lot of work on music clips and a spot on Friday nights at the Lala Club on Grove. I’d say he’s around twenty-three. The Lala doesn’t allow strippers to work underage, and Flame’s danced there for over a year. He’s one hell of a stripper.” Josh headed for the locker room. “I’m guessing you’ll want a sauna about now?” He turned and grinned at Harper. “I’ll join you until things get too hot.”

Harper relaxed the tension in his jaw. Being attracted to a barely legal boy was not his style. Okay, so he liked his men small, but not wimps. He craved a sub with an in your face attitude. Oh yeah, to have one submit to his flogger would be a dream made in heaven. Fighting the urge to lick his lips, he followed Josh into the changing room, stripped off, and then made his way to the sauna. Wrapped in a white fluffy towel barely covering his aching cock, he sat on a bench opposite the young man. Apart from Josh, propped up in the corner at the far end of the room, and sweet thing, the room was deserted. He smiled into the steam. The boy had stripped off his shirt to reveal pierced nipples. So, you’re not opposed to piercings. Fuck, I’d like to suckle those tight little buds. Harper unconsciously fingered the bar stud in his nipple and had the sudden inexplicable desire to drop his towel to display the stud piercing his shaft. He glanced at Josh, stretched out on a bench with his eyes shut. The memory of the dare, which resulted in his cock stud, flashed through his mind. He had vaguely remembered making the bet with Josh during an evening of drunken stupidity. Harper groaned inwardly and recalled neither of them would back down. Man, he’d never forget the subsequent weeks of forced celibacy he had endured following that night.

Harper’s gaze travelled over the young man. The smell of Flame’s sweat, fresh and intoxicating, drifted over him. His heart raced at the sight of lickable ,smooth, hairless skin on the dancer’s chest, belly, and legs. He ran his tongue around his mouth imagining the taste of damp, waxed flesh. A tattoo of a blue dragon wrapped around the delicious guy’s left side, disappearing around his back, and circling his waist. The long forked tail curled tantalizingly around one thigh. He fought the overpowering desire to grab the offending towel obscuring his vision. Damn, he wanted to see where the rest of the dragon lay. Perhaps the dragon’s head rested in a nest of flaming red curls. Fuck, the thought alone made his cock rear up for action.

Apart from a body Harper craved to lick slowly all over, the young dancer had the face of an angel—well not angelic—ethereal. The sweet thing would make one hell of a fae character in one of his stories. Although small, Flame had the sculpted muscle—the kind that bunched under restraints. Hell yeah. Harper licked his lips. Over taut muscle stretched white unmarked skin—the kind that blushed under his flogger. Fuck, he would start to drool at any moment.

Guest blog at Victoria Bliss

I wrote a guest post for Victoria Bliss’ blog about why whips and leather aren’t needed with BDSM and why they are still play their role. It also has a teaser from my new book, The Right Direction.

Victoria’s blog is worth a visit no matter what.
