A to Z Song Challenge: I is for I Want You

Okay, so “I” was giving me fits.  There were so many songs, it was hard to narrow them down.

I mean, there’s I Need Love by LL Cool J (I remember that was the first rap song I knew all the words to), Inside My Love by Minnie Riperton (one of my all-time favorites), In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins, Imagination by Earth, Wind & Fire (old school favorite), In a Sentimental Mood by Duke Ellington (love it!), I Tried by Anthony Hamilton (big fan of his), I like it, by DeBarge (so many memories), I Can’t Help It by Michael Jackson (Off the Wall album was THE best)… really, I could go on.
In the end I chose a classic.  It was originally made my Marvin Gaye.  I rarely like when my songs are remade, but I absolutely LOVE a version done by Kirk Whalum, so I’m including both of them for your listening pleasure.  So…….

Hope you enjoy!

A to Z Song Challenge: F is for Find Your Way

“Said I’m leaving, have I made myself clear.  Every time I find someone, I find myself here.”Funny story.  My son was very young when I heard this song for the first time.  But I’ve always listened  to music while cleaning, while driving, while doing most things.  This was the first song he ever learned. LOL  Even now, he calls it OUR song.  So…..

A to Z Song Challenge: E is for Ex Factor

I’m sure you can think back to that first love—the one that broke your heart.  The one that left you with so many scars.  Well, no one sings about that like Lauryn Hill.  It was all so simpleBut you’d rather make it hardLoving you is like a battleAnd we both end up with scarsAnd here it is…

A to Z Song Challenge: D is for Dangerously in Love 2

Okay, so I’m not one to hop on a music bandwagon.  In fact, when I like a newer song, it’s usually months after it was released and played out by radio stations.  BUT I like Beyonce.  I’m not her greatest fan, but I enjoy her music.  So…..

I have to say that this song has inspired many scenes.  I write with song and I write romance.  What better inspiration than a song that says “You’re my relation, In connection to the Sun.  With you next to me, there’s no darkness I can’t overcome.  You are my raindrop, I am the seed.  With you and God, who’s my sunlight, I bloom and grow so beautifully.”  Talk about a true love!   Phew.  That’s romance right there.  And that’s why I had to include this song in my favorites.  Enjoy!

A to Z Song Challenge: C is for Careless Whisper by WHAM

Thanks for riding with me on this trip down song memory.  C was a bit of a struggle for me because there were so many songs that I could pick.  BUT I loved 80s music and WHAM was one of my favorite groups.
I can recall the first time I heard this song and I played it constantly.  Back then, I didn’t have a CD player on an MP3 player so I was forced to get my tape recorder out and actually try to catch this song on the radio so I could record it.  Needless to say, those were pretty crappy recordings but they got the job done. LOL
So here it is…
And I’m never gonna dance again, guilty feet I’ve got no rhythm….        is for Careless Whisper

A to Z Song Challenge: B is for Be Grateful

is for Be Grateful by The Hawkins Family

God has not promised me sunshine  That’s not the way it’s going to be But a little rain, mixed with sunshine  A little pain makes me appreciate the good times.
These words have gotten me through many hard time in my life, especially recently with the passing of my Mother.  The words to the song urge us to be grateful in everything.  Things could definitely be worse.

A is for Adore - An A to Z Challenge!

Fellow BOB author, Empi Darko, came up with a brilliant A to Z challenge for the month of May.  And I’ve decided to join her in listing my favorite songs, from A to Z.  Music has always been a great love of mine.  I identify themes in my life by songs—every act, every feeling, every memorable moment was accompanied by a song.  When I write, I always do it with music.  I create playlists to go along with every novel.  It’s an integral part of my creative process.  So here is my A…

is for Adore by Prince.

One of my favorite songs by one of my all-time favorite artists.  What is your favorite “A” song?

Where the H%*& is my Freakin' Muse?

I hear it all the time.  Writer’s block only exists in the mind.  Don’t speak this thing into existence.  Write.  Write again. Write until something happens.  I just want to know, does it count if all I write is my grocery list.  Maybe my next book will be about a woman who solves the case of the missing green peppers?  Or the woman who slips on the nasty floor at the grocery store and is saved by the handsome—albeit young—stock boy at the local Kroger? I’ve tried.  Really.  All the little tips like write in a new place, get up early and just write (although that never worked because I’m so not a morning person), or exercise to get the blood moving. I even managed to put down a whopping 50 words on paper.  And after sitting there for countless hours staring at the screen—and wishing I had more Bingo chips so that I could play Bingo Blitz—I gave up and watched old episodes of Good Times.  So what’s a person to do when you have writer’s block?  Go to the grocery store?  Just kidding…. I ended up surfing the internet.  Didn’t you know that everything on the internet is true?  I wanted to engage my muse, so I figured I could find something to stir him up.  Yes, my muse is male—which sort of goes against the typical definition of muse, but I digress.  I call him The Boss.  I was desperate.  I’m at the end of my book and The Boss is hiding—and probably laughing at me.  And then it happened.  I was driving in the car—listening to my book playlist—when I started hearing the voices.  My characters were talking to each other.  I turned the music up and then I started talking to them.  And the next thing you know, I’m mapping out my scenes.  I said all this to say… it’s unpredictable.  But you just have to roll with it.  And the best thing you can do is bring a voice recorder/notebook so you can flow with it when it comes.  Ah… the little devil finally came through.  And my WIP is better for it.
