Announcing Britain's Got Kidneys

I am excited to announce my next book for adults - Britain's Got Kidneys. It's a black comedy - a satirical six part series with each part focussing on a different week in a reality TV show.

Here's the blurb for Part 1:

Eight contestants. One kidney. It's a battle of life and death - literally, when a corrupt television producer and a desperate media whore decide to host a reality TV show in which eight strangers compete to win a kidney transplant.

Amongst the contestants, Dino turns his back on...

Worksheet for Children to Write Their Own Smelly Troll Story

I've just uploaded a new creative writing worksheet to help key stage 2 children plan and write a humorous, adventure story.

Download Write Your Own Smelly Troll Story.

I am a children's author working on a series for 8-10 year olds, called Smelly Trolls. The books all follow the same formula - a bad troll does or plots something naughty and a troll hunter has to save the day.

The worksheet takes the child through creating two characters, setting the scene, creating conflict, concluding a story,...

10 Most Common Authors' Fantasies

Authors are renowned for making comments like, "Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I'd get a book deal." This kind of false modesty chafes like a crotchless teddy*. If you didn't imagine you'd get a book deal, then why did you print off one hundred copies of your first chapter and send it to one hundred different publishers?

Whether we admit it or not, we all fantasise about success. Why else would an author spend four years perfecting and self-publishing 100,000 words for average projec...

Schools - Would You Like a Book Donation for Your Library?

I have twelve paperback copies of The Troll Trap to donate to schools in the UK. It's the first book in my Smelly Trolls adventure series. It has proven a popular read and effective learning tool among junior school pupils.

The copies are for schools where teachers or librarians plan to encourage readers to engage in interactive activities related to the book.

I would be happy to respond to questions from children and offer feedback on their own creative writing. I am also available for school...

The Making of The Troll Trap - New Resource for Schools

I've uploaded a new resource for schools - a three-fold leaflet called 'The Making of The Troll Trap'. It takes children through the planning and drafting process one step at a time, with real examples that relate to the book.

Announcing Book 2 of the Smelly Troll Series

The sequel to The Troll Trap is on its way. I enjoyed every part of creating my first children's book - the writing, working with an illustrator, talking with younger readers ... So, I had to continue the series. Yet again, I was supposed to be writing for adults but couldn't help myself.

The book will be titled Mr Splendiferous and the Troublesome Trolls.

Here's a sneak peak at the blurb:

Rufus Sebbleford and his friends are looking forward to a school trip to the Mr Splendiferous Science Park...

Primary Schools, Would You Like an Author Visit?

As part of my new direction in children's writing, I'm looking to visit junior school classes to talk about creative writing.

For those of you who don't regularly follow my blog, I'm a British author of bestselling fiction for adults and I recently published my first children's book, The Troll Trap. I'm looking to build experience working with schools.

I don't charge for visits, but I would be grateful if schools could cover any travel expenses. I am based in Exeter and sometimes Truro and I do...

'Six Years Left' by Courtenay Hereward (Age 11)

Six Years Left is a book by an eleven-year-old girl that is inspiring, both in the way it's written and the support she's had to self-publish it.

Here's my review

An Inspiring and Refreshing Read From a Blossoming Talent - Five Stars

Sarah is a fourteen-year-old girl who develops a passion for Caspian seals, after her family move to Azerbaijan. The story is a touching tale of the relationship Sarah builds with the species and her heartache when she learns that they're at risk of extinction.
