Team KEEPER Continues AGAIN!!!!
Hey there all you awesome KEEPER fans!
Don't worry--the old Team KEEPER Continued page is still working just fine, and going strong at over 500 comments. But because it's been so popular, I know some of you have been getting tired of sorting through the chaos, trying to find new comments in your various conversations. I wish I had a better way to keep everything organized for you guys, but my hands are a bit tied as far as what I can do.
So for those of you who at least wanted a fresh page to chat... TA DA! Consider this your new Team KEEPER page! (though like I said, the old one is still working, so you're welcome to keep commenting over there as well)
While I have you here, I thought it might also be a good time to give a few updates and answer some of the questions I keep seeing over and over and over.
First, the current official release date for EVERBLAZE is 11/4/14, so WOOOOOOOO, only about 5 months to go!!!!
The title, cover, and a brief description of the plot have all been released (if you somehow missed them, you can find them on the KEEPER main page by clicking here HERE) and the book is now officially DONE! And I have to say, I'm pretty proud of it. It was by FAR the toughest book I've ever written, but I really think we ended up with something you guys are going to LOVE. So excited to have you read!
*glares at calendar, wishing it were November*
Sadly, that's really all I can say about EVERBLAZE (trying to keep the internetz spoiler-free and all that jazz). But I CAN tell you that I have lots of fun things planned for the next few months as we lead up to the release day.
I'll be touring in August to celebrate the launch of the EXILE paperback (I promise I'll post the dates, times, and locations as soon as I have the final details. For now just know that a tour is happening). And I have some very fun contests coming up in the months ahead. Some of the giveaways will be right here on this blog. Others will be on social media, so if you use those platforms (and your parents are okay with it), you might wanna make sure you're following me there. Here's some handy links to make that easier:
TwitterFacebook (yes, I do accept friend requests)KEEPER fan pageInstagramTumblr
Also, I know a lot of you have been wondering if I'll be doing a pre-order giveaway with swag and signed bookplates and whatnot (like I have with the other books in the past). And the answer is YES, I definitely will be. :) I won't be posting the giveaway until we're a bit closer to the release day (otherwise it gets too buried under new posts and no one can find it) but that definitely does not mean you have to wait to pre-order. My pre-order giveaways always apply to all pre-orders, not just ones purchased between certain dates. So if you decide you want to order your copy now (and want to make me EVER so happy) feel free. You can still fill out the form when the giveaway goes live and get the same awesome prizes.
In fact, to make it easier for you (and because I can be quite shameless), here's a few handy preorder links. Yanno. Just in case:
amazon barnes & nobleBooks-A-MillioniTunesIndieboundThe Book Depository
Okay, I think that gets you all up to speed on everything. So you are now free to comment away! But like always, PLEASE make sure you keep your discussions spoiler-free, so we don't ruin the fun for anyone who hasn't read both books yet. Also please keep your comments to each other positive or friendly. I want this to be a happy, safe place.
Also, if you need a refresher on who the teams are:
Now....GO!

Also, if you need a refresher on who the teams are:

Ever feel like you don't belong? Then you look no further--you belong with Team Sophie! You may not always have the answers, but you're brave and smart, and if you trust yourself, you can handle anything. And as for who holds your heart? Only time will tell how you decide . . .

Ever feel like the underdog? Then welcome to Team Dex! You may have people constantly underestimating you, but you'll prove them all wrong someday. And while you may be the ultimate BFF, you're hoping to break out of the "friend zone" eventually. (you might have pretty great dimples, too . . . )

Ever caused a mess of trouble--and loved every second of it? Then you definitely belong with Team Keefe! Jokes and pranks are the highlight of your week--but that doesn't mean you can't be serious when you need to be. In fact, you care very deeply about . . . well, maybe you're not ready to admit *who* yet. But you're having fun driving the girls crazy in the meantime!

Ever feel pressure to be who everyone expects you to be? Then Team Fitz is the place for you ! You have the looks, the talent, and the family everybody envies--but that doesn't mean you do everything perfectly. And sometimes you can be a little oblivious when it comes to other people's feelings. But you'll hopefully figure it all out--eventually. . .

Ever feel like no one understands you? Then find lots of people you can relate to on Team Iggy! You may be small and good at making a mess of things--but you always know when someone needs you. And you're happy to provide them with a cuddle, a purr, or a nose-full of toxic breath--whatever they need. And hey, you can rock every crazy fur color there is!

Ever feel like you're all alone? Then you'll find lots of friends with Team Silveny--plus more sparkles than anyone could ever need! You're special and one-of-a-kind and extremely loyal and caring. And no one can deny you have great taste in friends--even if they give you the craziest nicknames.
Now....GO!

MMGM Shout Out: ICEFALL, by Matthew Kirby (Plus the 6/2/14 links)
Trying to get back on track after all the chaos of the last few weeks, so I actually have an MMGM shoutout this week. It's for a book I read--and LOVED--recently: ICEFALL, by Matthew Kirby:
And I know some of you are probably thinking, "seriously, Shannon? You're just NOW reading this?" To which I must sheepishly admit that originally I hadn't been all that interested in this book. I honestly don't know why. I'd heard a ton of amazing things about it. But for some reason it didn't sound like the kind of book I wanted to read, until recently when I was in the mood for something a little different and decided to give it a try. I loved every single page and am now kicking myself for missing out on such awesomeness for all this time.
So if you're like me, and have been seriously missing the boat with this one, HERE's a goodreads link so you can add it to your shelves. I promise, you won't regret it. I'll now read anything Matthew Kirby writes.
And now, onto the MMGM links:
If you would like to join in the MMGM fun, all you have to do is blog about a middle grade book you love (contests, author interviews and whatnot also count--but are most definitely not required) and email me the title of the book you're featuring and a link to your blog at SWMessenger (at) hotmail (dot) com. (Make sure you put MMGM or Marvelous Middle Grade Monday in the subject line so it gets sorted accurately) You MUST email me your link by Sunday evening in order to be included in the list of links. (usually before 11pm PST is safe--but if I'm traveling it can vary. When in doubt, send early!)
If you miss the cutoff, you are welcome to add your link in the comments on this post so people can find you, but I will not have time to update the post. Same goes for typos/errors on my part. I do my best to build the links correctly, but sometimes deadline-brain gets the best of me, and I'm sorry if it does. For those wondering why I don't use a Linky-widget instead, it's a simple matter of internet safety. The only way I can ensure that all the links lead to safe, appropriate places for someone of any age is if I build them myself. It's not a perfect system, but it allows me to keep better control.
Thank you so much for being a part of this awesome meme, and spreading the middle grade love!
*Please note: these posts are not a reflection of my own opinions on the books featured. Each blogger is responsible for their own MMGM content and I do not pre-screen reviews ahead of time, nor do I control what books they choose. I simply assemble the list based on the links that are emailed to me.

MMGM Links (5/26/14)
Finally back from traveling--thank you all SO MUCH for bearing with me. Things should go back to normal around here now, though I'm skipping the MMGM shoutout this week because with the holiday today it's kind of a light blogging week. Still, there were a few of you loyal MMGMers posting, so I put together the links:

MMGM Links (5/19/14)
I'm still out of the country, so once again, I haven't been able to putting together official links. (I'm not checking email, either, so if you sent me a link--or anything else--I haven't seen it, and won't until I get back).
But just like last week, I put together a list of the blogs that have participated the most regularly over the last few weeks. I know it won't be everyone, and some might not have new posts (since I put this together before I left). But I hope it's better than nothing. And I will be home in a couple of days and back on track next week!
(Also, I promise an update on my Paris KEEPER event, with photos and everything!)
(and once again I feel the need to mention that if you're a robber and thinking YAY Shannon's House is empty!!!: still wrong! My husband's friend is staying there, and he's muscly and stuff. So seriously, bad idea.)
(Also, I know lots of you are probably wondering why I didn't just post a widget and let you add your own links. And like I keep saying, the reason is: spammers. Those widgets don't sort them out the way comment filters do, and I have so many kid readers who check this site, so I feel like I need to do everything I can to protect them)
Okay, so here's the MMGM "pretty-regulars" who probably have something fun going on this week (and if I missed you, feel free to leave a link in the comments):

MMGM Links (5/12/14)
As you probably know from my post last week, I'm out of the country right now, so I won't be putting together the links until the week of 5/26. (I'm not checking email, either, so if you sent me a link--or anything else--I haven't seen it, and won't until I get back).
But I didn't want to just abandon the meme completely, so below are links to the blogs that have participated the most regularly over the last few weeks. I know it probably won't be everyone, and some might not have new posts (since I put this together before I left, and there's always a few who join in more sporadically). But I figured it was better than nothing, and I promise I'll get back on track as soon as I'm home (side note: if you're a robber and thinking YAY Shannon's House is empty!!!: wrong! One of my husband's friends is staying there. And he's way tougher than we are. So yanno, bad idea.)
(And I know some of you might be wondering why I didn't post a widget and let you add your own links. Like I've said before, the reason is: spammers. Those widgets don't sort them out the way comment filters do, and I have to go with the safest option to protect my kid readers)

Okay, so here's the MMGM "pretty-regulars" who probably have something fun going on this week (and if I missed you, feel free to leave a link in the comments):

Each blogger is responsible for their own MMGM content and I do not pre-screen reviews ahead of time, nor do I control what books they choose. MMGM: EVERBLAZE Cover Copy REVEALED!!! (Plus the 5/5/14 links)
I know it's shameless to do anything for my books on MMGM day. But I *just* got the green light to finally share this, and since I'm leaving the country today, (London, Paris, & Edinburgh here I come!) it was share today, or wait two weeks. And I figured you guys would rather not have to keep waiting. :)
Related to that, since I'll be traveling, I won't be able to put together the links for the next couple of weeks. I *have* assembled something to go live each Monday with a list of all the people who've been a part of MMGM pretty regularly, since I'm assuming they'll have the best chance of posting again. But I know it won't be as good as it usually is, and all I can say is: sorry! (And I know some of you might be wondering why I don't just put up a widget and let you add your own links. The answer is: spammers. This blog gets a TON of them. And a TON of kid readers. And that is just a bad, bad combination).
Okay, enough Shannon-rambling. Here's the official EVERBLAZE cover copy (not to be confused with the "placeholder" copy some of you might have seen on amazon, which was not written by me, and was created before the book had been completed, so it wasn't *quite* as accurate)
Sophie Foster is ready to fight back.
Her talents are getting stronger, and with the elusive Black Swan group ignoring her calls for help, she’s determined to find her kidnappers—before they come after her again.
But a daring mistake leaves her world teetering on the edge of war, and causes many to fear that she has finally gone too far. And the deeper Sophie searches, the farther the conspiracy stretches, proving that her most dangerous enemy might be closer than she realizes.
In this nail-biting third book in the Keeper of the Lost Cities series, Sophie must fight the flames of rebellion, before they destroy everyone and everything she loves.
Sing it with me: Dun Dun Dunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
I know that probably raises more questions than answers, and sadly I can't tell you anything except: you'll find out when you read! And I am so excited for that to happen. Hurry up November 4th--we're waiting!
But hey, in the meantime, if you would like to pre-order, here's some handy links:

Waaaaaaaaay too wiped from a crazy weekend of travel and events (had SUCH a fun time at the SOKY Book Fest, though) to put together an MMGM shoutout. But I did my best to assemble the links:

MMGM: AFTER THE BOOK DEAL w/ Jonathan Auxier (plus the 4/21/14 links!)
Don't go into shock--but I actually have a proper post this week. A really good one, too. PROBABLY because I didn't write it. But hey, I had to be organized enough to get it all assembled and posted for you, so... it's progress, right?????
All kidding aside, I'm SO excited to share this most from the amazing Jonathan Auxier with you guys. Partially because he's super flippin' smart in it. But mostly because I'm a huge fan of his books, so it's always fun when I get to support them.
And so, without further ado, I give you: AFTER THE BOOK DEAL, by Jonathan Auxier:

The Internet is full of great advice about how to sell a book, but what about after the sale? When my first book came out, I found it was surprisingly hard to find answers to some basic questions. Like most authors, I learned most of the answers through trial and error. And so in anticipation of the launch of my new novel, The Night Gardener, I’ve decided to write down everything I learned so I don’t make the same mistakes twice!
AFTER THE BOOK DEAL is a month-long blog series detailing the twenty things I wish someone had told me before entering the exciting world of children’s publishing. Each weekday from now until MAY 20, I will be posting an article on a different blog. Follow along and please spread the word!
***
DAY ONE - Finding Your Tribe
Publishing is a slow process—usually taking more than a year between sale and publication. For a new author, desperate to see their book on a shelf, it can be an agonizing wait. But this delay is a good thing, because you need that time to prepare! This first week, I’ll be talking about the five things you need to do in the months before your book comes out.
The first thing any new author should do—and they should start as soon as possible—is find a community of friends within the book world. This can be easier said than done.
Right after selling Peter Nimble, I dedicated myself to learning all about the kidlit/YA community. I spent months reading every klidlit blog and website I could. The goal was simple: find my tribe. Even in a market as small as ours, there is a lot of diversity—some people love paranormal romance, some want to talk about education, some want to talk about public libraries, and some want to discuss old books (that would be me!). The more widely I read, the more I was able to determine which authors/bloggers/teachers/librarians shared my own interests and passion.
Your goal is not to determine a “target audience” or anything so cynical. Think of yourself as a new kid in school, scoping out the yard during recess, looking for friends. That last word is key: these people will be your friends. So look for people that you actually like and whose opinions and interests you respect.
So how do you turn these strangers into friends? Reaching out to virtual strangers can be daunting. The trick lies in nine simple words:
“Can I buy you lunch and pick your brain?”
The best way to learn about the industry is to talk to people who are in the industry. And the best way to talk to these people is to spend time with them in person and learn about their lives. When I entered the world of children’s publishing, I did just this. After meeting a few authors/bloggers/librarians who I admired, I made a point to seeking them out. If you’re not in the same city, then you’ll probably have to meet up with people at conferences and book festivals (which I’ll be discussing in week two!).
Please note that this is not about pitching your book. Your book shouldn’t even come up. This is about learning from people you like and respect. Just be a curious, courteous person who shares similar interests. Remember the kid in the schoolyard: you’re just trying to make friends, not win votes for class president.
I should mention that many of these librarians/bloggers/authors are likely too busy to sit down with complete strangers—that’s where being an avid reader of (and commenter on) blogs helps. If I want to meet someone who isn’t a blogger, my rule of thumb is first to make sure that I have at least two mutual acquaintances before reaching out. And once I’ve sat down with a person and had a good chat, I always end the conversation with the same question:
"Who would you recommend that I talk to next?"
This is a fairly painless way for a new friend to help you—it takes almost no time and gives you a reason to keep in touch with them. Hopefully, over the course of several months, you will build friendships that will live way beyond your book launch. Assuming you’re serious about being an author, this is a community you will share for the rest of your life.
That’s it for BEFORE THE BOOK DEAL! Tomorrow, I’ll be visiting the Novel Novice to discuss the tricky business of building a “public identity” that actually reflects who you are! Swing by and spread the word!

When does EVERBLAZE come out???The current scheduled release date is 11/4/14. Less than six months to go--WOO!!!!!!!
Can you tell us something about the plot???Um... not yet. BUT SOON.
Is EVERBLAZE the last book in the series???Well .... this is another question I can't answer yet. But again: SOON.
Does this mean there are a lot of Fitz scenes in the book????
Yes! Though there are also lots of Dex scenes and Keefe scenes and even quite a few Biana scenes, plus all your other favorite characters. EVERBLAZE is a rather long book. I'm not entirely sure how many pages it will be once it's all typeset, but it's longer than EXILE, so... a lot! And I love it. And it's FINALLY DONE. I can't wait for you guys to read!!!!!

MMGM Shout Out: THE PECULIAR, by Stefan Bachmann (Plus the 4/14/14 links)
Woo Hoo--EVERBLAZE is ALMOST done! I have a few tiny changes to make, and a final polish read to do over the next couple of days, and then it is FINISHED. Not gonna lie--I never thought I'd get there. BUT I MADE IT. And I can't wait for you guys to read in November! I hope you love it as much as I do.
I'm a little loopy tonight from a crazy weekend (events on Fri, Sat, & Sun--*collapses*) but I am trying to get back on track with these MMGM shout outs. So I have a quick one for you guys today for a book I adore: THE PECULIAR, by Stefan Bachmann.
This is one of those books that I bought entirely because of the cover. I didn't know what it was about. I hadn't heard anything about it. But I mean, LOOK AT THAT COVER! It was begging me to read it. So I did, and...wow. It was one of those books I couldn't put down. Such a cool world, such a page turning plot, and holy crow can Stefan Bachmann write. I can't believe he was a teenager when he wrote it. Way to make the rest of us look bad!
If you haven't read it yet, I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. You can find it on Goodreads HERE.
And make sure you also check out these other MMGMs happening throughout the blogosphere:
