The Gaze by Javier Robayo

Picture As a sophomore in college, Samantha Reddick meets Tony Amaya, a brokenhearted young man, whose written words she keeps as a memento of a weekend long affair. The words, written on the back of a paper placemat, become her only solid ground during a tumultuous decade that nearly destroys her, leaving her searching for answers at the bottom of the bottle. Haunted by guilt and the constant menace from a man she once loved, Samantha searches for Tony and inserts herself into his life through an online friend request to his wife, Gwen. Mutual curiosity opens the door to an unexpected friendship that becomes the catalyst of an inner battle between the better woman Samantha longs to be, and the Samantha who despises her own gaze.
Excerpt Tony didn’t look nervous at all. Meanwhile I was awash in uneasiness at the prospect of bringing him into my dorm.

The story, all I want is the story and to find out what motivates such passionate writing, that’s all. Just the story…

Liar…

I felt shaky while he walked. In contrast, his breathing was even as though he was so comfortable with the situation. I suddenly wondered if this particular situation was familiar to him.

We took the stairway to the second floor. Our footfalls echoed loudly, the sound joined only by the faint buzzing of the overhead fluorescent lights.

I unlocked the door with trembling hands that jangled the keys. Somehow, I found the light switch and chased the shadows away, revealing a second hand living room set on cheap flat carpeting. I peeled off my denim jacket and threw it across a chair in the kitchen nook. When I turned, I was surprised to see him leaning against the door, held back by uncertainty.

I held the paper placemat between us like an amulet to ward off his intensity. “Do you mind if I read it?”

He fixed his eyes on me and nodded before glancing away, his chin coming to rest on his chest.

I started reading. It was far more intense than I could have ever imagined. It was nothing but raw fury and passion, a determined declaration of love. It read of this girl that had become the center of his thoughts, the very core of his being. I could feel my heart breaking as I was overwhelmed with the strange notion that I wanted to be this Gwen of his. I wanted to know what it was to feel such passion, such love. Tears sprung in my eyes and I cried for him, for this fortunate girl…

For me...

He didn’t ask what was wrong right away. He simply stared just past my shoulder while I made a futile attempt to dispel a sob. I muttered that this was beautiful and he gave me a sad, crooked smile as a tear rolled off the corner of his eye before he turned his face away.

I don’t know what it was about that tear, but it made me go to him like a magnet to steel and place my hands on his face. His skin was burning. There was a little stubble that only made me too aware of his masculinity.
"Kiss me," I whispered into those confused brown eyes of his. "Just kiss me."

His hands found my wrists and his eyes stayed on mine. Need became a force as tangible as the strong winds that fuel a storm.

I knew he was thinking I was crazy. I knew he thought of all the reasons why he should stop this crazy bitch in heat and go away. Bloody hell, I was thinking I was crazy.

A tiny voice in my head was screaming all sorts of warnings but just when I felt rejection eating away at me, his eyes fell on my lips and after one breathless moment, he leaned down and kissed me.

Molten lead would have frozen my insides in comparison. I was trembling and when I felt his breath stutter, I opened my lips in invitation. He pulled away and a disappointed moan escaped my throat, allowing reason to slowly take root in my brain. I kept my eyes on his.

His hand held my face as delicately as a summer breeze. His thumb brushed away the tears I finally tried to blink away. His eyes seemed to glitter as they searched mine and time seemed to stop its endless march in perfect silence.

Was this wrong? I let out my pent up breath slowly in a sorrowful sigh as electricity crackled between us.

In one swift motion, his hands brought my face up at an angle and he kissed me so hard, I lost what little restraint I had left.

He loves someone else…

He loves her…

Stop this!

I felt weightless. His touch was firm yet gentle. The kiss grew needier and heat traveled down into my body, setting my abdomen aflutter. My hands found the flat planes of his chest and then ran down his sides to his hips. On their way back, they pushed his shirt up. His hot skin sent a pang of need that had my heart hammering in my ribcage.

My tickling fingers forced him to shift and pull away for a breath. I answered his smile with a lustful gaze as I brought his hands to the buttons of my uniform shirt.

His hands ventured over my abdomen and moved up to grace the underside of my breasts, making my head swim. I shrugged the shirt off and his t-shirt joined it on the floor within seconds.

We engaged in a stumbling waltz as we somehow made our way to my bedroom. Our clothes kept pooling on the floor, marking our passing like bread crumbs on an unknown trail. I was almost sick with need as the coarse hair of his chest made contact with my skin. When I felt him rigid on my thighs, I pulled hard on his neck, bringing him on top of me as he braced his fall with his arms on either side of me, never breaking from the kiss.

“Wait…” he panted. “I… um… I don’t have anything.”

It took a few seconds before I realized what he meant. Shame colored me a shade of red I thought would make me glow in the semi darkness. “It’s okay, I promise…” I said breathlessly.

He gave me a dubious look that I hoped to eradicate with more kissing. His lips found my throat, my face, my shoulder, and I curled driving my hips up to meet him. He was being gentle, too gentle, I thought in frustration, when all I wanted was for him to go right through me. I grabbed hold of his hips, and then thoroughly enjoyed the feel of the muscles on his back as I pulled him into me. The sudden fullness forced me to bite my lip to keep me from crying out. It had been so bloody long…

“Kelly…” he whispered almost breaking the spell, but I was too far gone to care.

A thin wisp of rational thought told me he was probably thinking about someone else. I wondered if he called out Kelly only to remind himself that he wasn’t with the girl behind his writing. It didn’t matter. My body overrode my mind as he moved within me. I held on tighter, needing the closeness, if only physical.

…I’ll be no more than a transient thought in her mind, a small measure of time, insignificant. No more than a barely familiar set of notes to a song seldom remembered…

The lines of his writing flashed through my head as my breath grew shallower.

…No more can I feel the soft warmth of her kiss and its absence becomes me in the form of a living death…

All I could do was accept this moment and quell my own thirst for that kind of love with what little he offered me. The kind of love he obviously reserved for the girl from his writing.

His muscles grew taut under my touch while I held my breath as the inevitable rush of heat converged into my center from all corners of my body. I parted the kiss and screamed my ecstasy, burying my face into his chest while he grew impossibly large in me before collapsing, his own conclusion reached. We held onto each other, our breath ragged, both of us feeling each other’s tremors. If this was the one and only time I was to feel this way, then I’d go into the grave smiling to the high heavens.

You must stay positive!

Being a writer has high times and low times. This week I'm experiencing some low times. But you know what, it's okay. Because for all I know something better than what I had wanted is waiting for me. Maybe I took the wrong path for wrong reasons and had to get knocked back to take a moment and rethink.

In 7 days I have gotten 3 rejections. Two on The Naked Truth (a novella) and one of my full-length sweet, Bidding Wars. Part of me wanted to climb in bed today when the third rejection came in right after the second. But then I stopped and thought, it wasn't meant to be. Just because they didn't like my stories doesn't mean someone else won't. It doesn't mean I've failed at writing. It just means that they weren't right for me, as I wasn't right for them. And that's okay.  When I wrote, The Naked Truth, at the time I was thinking of self-publishing it. I wanted to have control of this story and after two rejections on it, perhaps that's what I was meant to do. The stories I have self-pubbed, I have had very good success with. Bidding Wars is a full-length sweet. Its going to be harder to find a home for. Sex is in...and sorry folks...there are not details in this story. The door shuts as soon as these hop in the sack. But, its what felt right for this story.

Most of my stories I don't get attached too. I did with Finding Home. I love that story. And Bidding Wars has become one of those as well. It being rejected stung a little more that I would like to admit. A few tears were shed. But, the pub who rejected it isn't the only one out there. It will find the right home. I just have to keep faith.

3 rejections in 7 days is tough. And like I said, I could wallow and cry and quit. But I'm not. 2012 has been a great year. I've grown so much as a writer. Those rejections don't mean I am a bad writer. And you know what, I have my book with two other pus with answers coming soon. Response number 4 could be a yes...or it could be a no. But, I know Bidding Wars will end up where its suppose to.

So as I keep my head up and chin high, I am going to be thankful for what I've accomplished and all the good things that are coming. I am blessed with wonderful readers who have given me great feedback.

Here's to 2013 being even better than 2012.

Business and Pleasure by Emily Wood

Picture
Can mixing business and pleasure ever result in a happy ending?

When sexy, rich Lawrence Russo asks Mia to come and work for him in Italy for two weeks, she jumps at the chance. After all, it beats pole dancing, and the salary he offers her is practically obscene.

A relationship quickly begins to develop between the two, but Mia can't help but wonder if Lawrence's feelings for her are genuine or if he feels he's just paying for a service.

Even if their relationship is strong enough to survive her insecurities, what will happen when somebody from her past shows up and threatens to reveal her deepest, darkest secret?

Excerpt Lucy looked around nervously. "What's wrong?" she asked.

"I…don't know," Mia admitted. Perhaps she was just being paranoid.

"Mia." She heard a familiar drawl coming from the shadows. Her heart raced in anticipation as she turned to see the speaker. He walked out of the shadows and toward them like a jaguar stalking his prey, but Mia didn't feel intimidated, only excited by his presence.

"You shouldn't go sneaking around in the darkness. You could give a girl a fright." Mia laughed.

"I could leave, if that would please you," he purred. She loved the way he emphasized please. He gave no indication that he was going to leave. Mia was glad.

"Er, maybe I'll just go wait around the corner," Lucy said awkwardly. Mia nodded to acknowledge her, feeling a little guilty, because she had actually forgotten Lucy was still there.

"So, what are you doing here?" Mia tried to seem nonchalant, despite the fact that her body was having some kind of chemical reaction to his presence.

As if from nowhere, the handsome man produced the bottle of champagne he had purchased earlier that night. "I do believe we have plans to share this." He took a step closer to her.

"Oh. I would, it's just we aren't supposed to socialize with the clients outside of the club," Mia said teasingly, although it was technically true.

"Tell me, Mia, do you always do what you're supposed to do?" It seemed as though he had expected her reaction.

"No, I guess not."

"I've been watching you, Mia."

"I've noticed." She took a step in his direction and looked challengingly into his dark eyes. "So, do you like what you see?"

They were close enough to touch, and Mia's every nerve was tingling, hoping to feel his fingers on her skin. He swayed forward and, for a moment, she thought he was going to kiss her, but he leaned toward her ear instead. "I have a business proposition for you," he breathed, sending a shiver through her body before he pulled away from her.

It took Mia a moment to compose herself, and his eyes sparkled with amusement, no doubt he was enjoying her confusion. "Business…a business proposition?" Mia attempted to sound as casual as she possibly could.

"I'm returning to my home in Tuscany tomorrow," he announced.

Mia felt her heart sink, but was determined not to let it show. "Oh, it must be beautiful in Italy this time of year. But what does that have to do with me?"

"I was hoping you would accompany me."

About The Author I have always believed that the best stories are the ones that you can't put down, the ones that transport you to a different place and make you believe in the characters. This is exactly why I write… I have always loved the escapism that reading and writing provides, and there is nothing more exciting than imagining your own set of characters, and then letting them practically write the story for you. Writing has always been a dream of mine, and I'm lucky to have the kind of people around me that have always nurtured and encouraged my passion.

I live a cozy little life in Wales, and when I'm not writing I'm taking care of my young family, studying for a degree in Classical Studies, and training to become a nail technician. I love traveling to new places, meeting new people, and experiencing new things…it's all great inspiration for my books!

Alexa Grace's Deadly Trilogy Boxed Set - With more than 600 five-star reviews, it's time for you to discover the three Deadly Trilogy books: Deadly Offerings, Deadly Deception and Deadly Relations.
Excerpt from Deadly Deception “Lane, I know you’re ready to do undercover work, but with this case I need two cops who can pose as a married couple. Unfortunately, we’ve got three women on the team. One is built like a linebacker and the other two are pregnant."

“Sir, for this case, why don’t we go outside the department? I know a Private Investigator who can handle herself on a job like this."

Newly appointed Sheriff Tim Brennan’s brows drew together in a suspicious expression. “What’s the PI’s name?”

“Frankie Douglas. I worked with her last year on the Charles Beatty serial killer case. She’s a former sharpshooter for the Army.”

“Is this the same Frankie Douglas you shot?”
Lane’s face flushed with the guilt he still felt about the shooting.
“Yes, sir. It was an accident. We were heading down the stairs of Beatty’s cellar to apprehend him when one of the steps gave way and when I fell my gun went off and hit Frankie.”

“Has Frankie Douglas done police work before?”

“I heard she’s a former detective.”

“I think I’ve heard about her. Isn’t she a pretty tall blonde woman?”

“Oh, she’s smokin’ hot. Think Victoria Secret hot.”

“Is that right? Do you have a personal thing going with Ms. Douglas?”

“No sir. Strictly professional.” Of course, if he’d had a chance, he’d have made in personal in 2.5 seconds.

Brennan glared at Lane then picked up his phone and dialed a number. “Hello, Frankie, this is Uncle Tim. I may have a job for you. Would you please drop by my office?”

Celestial Seduction by Jessica E. Subject

Picture At the end of his obligated commitment to the Space Service, Frey Berger decides to stay on Earth to further experience human emotions rather than return to Ginnun where his intended has already mated with another. Looking for real love and someone to accept him for what he is, Frey enlists in Madame Evangeline’s popular dating service. Although he does not understand the concept of a one-night stand, he hopes to find his perfect mate.

Carrie Cooper’s husband divorced her for someone who could provide him with children, leaving her with little self-confidence and no desire to let a man hurt her again. Her best friend convinces her to join a dating service, claiming Carrie needs to get laid, while not winding up with a broken heart since her date requires no commitment after the night is over.

Although several misunderstandings nearly derail them before the date has even begun, Carrie and Frey end up becoming closer than they ever believed possible. Still, Frey will need to convince Carrie that her perfect mate isn’t human at all, and that one night can lead to a forever love. Excerpt Her intensity excited him, but he needed to find a way to keep her calm. She refused to look into his eyes. His mouth crashed down on hers, absorbing her next words. She objected at first, but then her tongue reached out to him, a passionate gesture unheard of on Ginnun.

He matched the force of her kiss and skimmed his hands down her arms to rest on her sides near her breasts. She no longer struggled. Her arms wrapped around him, keeping him close. When she released his mouth to take a breath, he sat up. She panted underneath him.

“That was incredible. I….I felt like I was flying through space. So many colors and the brightest stars.”

He experienced something different. With that kiss, he had finally found someone who could keep him grounded on Earth and repress any regret for not returning to Ginnun. He brushed his thumb along her cheekbone. “I’d like to continue if you’ll let me.” He leaned down and placed light kisses across her face.

A sigh escaped her lips and the last of her tight muscles relaxed underneath him. He slid his body down her legs, his hands returning to her belly.

“I thought you were going to continue something else,” she whispered.

His cock pressed against his pants already. Her sudden interest in sex made it painful. “I want to, but I need to finish giving you this gift.”

Her body moved but she didn’t struggle or try to get away. “What exactly are you doing to me? What is this gift? Why was my stomach glowing?”

He took in a deep breath and released it a little faster and louder than he’d wanted. He knew the answer would lead to more questions. While prepared to answer them, he didn’t want to scare her away. His response required carefully chosen words to ensure he gave her the gift before he told her of his origins.

“I’m healing you.” The blue glow returned across her belly as his hands warmed. “You’ll be able to have a child when I am finished.”

Her eyes widened. He sensed her fear, but she didn’t move. “Your child?”

“No, I am not giving you a child. That can only be done in the usual ways. I am simply making your body able to become pregnant and carry a child.”

Carrie propped herself up on her elbows. Her eyes stared down at her belly, but she remained calm. “How? No doctor could do that for me. How can you? Are you some type of voodoo priest or something?”

“No.” He needed to continue and keep his heritage from her for as long as possible.

“A religious fanatic who thinks I’m possessed by demons?”

Frey laughed. “Nope.” He was almost finished. Just a little longer. The scarring had all returned to normal, healthy tissue. He only needed to stimulate the maturation and release of eggs in her ovaries.

“How then? I know you’re doing something to me. I can feel it.”

“Remember how I said I needed an open-minded partner?”

She nodded, her eyes catching a quick glance from his before returning to her stomach.

Just a couple more minutes and he’d be finished. He prepared to hold her down should she freak out when he told her he came from space. “I’m not exactly like you and most of the people on Earth. I’m….different.”

“Like a demon or a guardian angel?”

He laughed. It sounded forced, but he needed to stay focused on healing Carrie rather than mating with her. “No, you’re thinking paranormal. Try science fiction.”

She began to squirm under him, but he didn’t need to restrain her. “A….clone? Artificial intelligence?”

He finished healing her and lay down beside her. His thumb ran across her lips, wanting to taste them again, but knowing he probably wouldn’t. “Try alien.” Buy Links Decadent Publishing  Amazon   Barnes & Noble

Vows by Tamaria Soana #giveaway

One of my dear friends has a new release!  I hope you enjoy learning about Vows by Tamaria Soana. Picture Addison Klein realizes how unfulfilled her marriage to Tyler is. She is contemplating whether she should fight to keep her family together or walk away.

The death of her best friend Peyton, cause her to sit back and rethink her life. After a fight with Tyler, and a scary episode at work Addison knows she needs to finally decide her future.

Just when she thinks she is all alone in making this life altering decision, she gets a little guidance from her guardian angel.

Addison comes to terms with the fact that she needs to deal with her past before you can move on and focus on the future. With the help of her therapist Addison rediscover herself and realizes that the vows she said on her wedding day meant something to her... for as long as we both shall live.

Wanting to be a better example to her two little girls, she makes a decision that will change their lives forever when she sets out to seduce her husband. Excerpt Peyton's funeral was beautiful and emotionally overwhelming for me. Tyler went to his parents’ house after the church service to pick up the girls. He was never good at showing emotion or handling it when I did.

I accompanied Colin to the graveside service and the funeral brunch afterward for continued moral support. He was a wonderful man, but he wore his emotions on his sleeve. After the brunch was over, the immediate family and I went back to Colin’s house. We spent the day consoling each other and telling stories about Peyton and her antics. We talked about how she seemed to have a sixth sense, a feeling about how things were going to turn out. I finally said my goodbyes and headed home.

I looked over at the clock on my dashboard as I pulled back into the driveway and was stunned by how late it was. I was tired and emotionally drained. I just wanted to go to bed. I opened the door and set my purse and keys down on the table, slipping off my shoes.

"Nice of you finally to come home," Tyler snarked before I saw him walking into the foyer.

"What?" I asked, shaking my head and trying to figure out what he meant.

"You’ve been gone all day," he snipped.

I started to walk away from him and down the hall. "I was with Colin. Where did you think I was?" I replied just a snarky.

"Is there something going on with you and Colin?" he spat, ripping what little was left of my heart out.

I spun around to face him. "You have got to be kidding me! Really, Tyler? Is that what you think?" I took a deep breath and my body started to shake. I was on emotional overload and about to explode. "Do you really think I would do that to Peyton?” I seethed as I wiped the tears running down my cheek with the back of my hand.

"That's what I mean. You ask if I think you could do that to Peyton and I’m wondering if you would do it to me," he yelled.

Balancing writing with household chores #WWOW

Picture Hi, welcome back for another Words of Wisdom! I hope what I've shared so far has been helpful. When I sat down to write this post, I wondered what I could share. No big topic was standing out flashing with bright red letters, so I decided to write about something I've been struggling with lately. Balancing.

I'm lucky to be a full-time writer. I have an amazing husband who lets me sit here day in and day out writing and hoping that one day it'll be my turn to make it big. But then that leaves me with today's topic, how do I find time to not only write, but also the duties of a housewife and mother?  Some weeks my house is a wreck. The dishes pile up, and while I cook dinner, I'm loading and unloading the dishwaser. There will be sevreal loads of laundry that need to be folded and probably several other stacks that need to be washed. Litter boxes stink. Toys need to be put away. Bathrooms are getting icky. Oh, and I need to get to the gym! And then finally I snap. I get cranky and start cleaning and get upset because I'm not writing. And writing after all is my job.

Does this happen to you? I wish I had an answer on how to make it work better. But, what I'm trying is to set a schedule. Assigning days to bathroom, laundry, etc. That way I can get a little done each day and not feel so overwhelmed.

Such as today, I wanted to do more cleaning because I'm used to doing it all in one day. I stopped myself and went to write instead. I had accomplished my little to-do list and tomorrow I'll write another.

Lists. Perhaps that's the answer to staying on track. Lots and lots of lists with what I need to accomplish for the day.  Not only in household chores, but I've begun lists on writing. I have guests post with deadlines, blogs with there deadlines as well. And it goes on. And each day when I write these small lists and I get to scratch everything off, I find the stress is lifted and I actually feel as though everything is balanced that day.

Have you got any tips on keeping your life balanced? Want more wisdom? #WWOW or Writers Word of Wisdom - A Smart & Savvy Group of Authors who write a weekly feature for their blog -Writer's Words of Wisdom- each Wednesday. The goal is to impart what we've learned about writing, editing, getting published, book promotion, and more along the way.

Writer on vacation is almost over! So, what's next?

I can't believe I've really done it. Well, technically I have to make it past today and tomorrow and to Sunday evening. I've been on vacation. No, I haven't been off on some nice tropical island where I had a hot cabana boys serving me fruity drinks. I've been home, catching up on laundry, cleaning out kids rooms, and such. When I finished NaNo in November (I finished my 50k a little early), I decided to go on a writers vacation. No creative writing what so ever! And for the rest of the month, I will most likely be taking it pretty slow anyway with the holidays. I would like to get a little writing in before kids go onto break, because I know not much will be happening after that.
Its been nice though to be honest. To actually sit back and do nothing! I must admit, a few days I was really lazy. Like sit on the couch, stuff my face, and watch TV kinda lazy. And it was nice. There have been days that the characters in my head were screaming at me. Wanting to be heard. I'd jot down on paper their scenes, but left it at that. I wasn't going to let them have their way with me.

So, what's next on my plate you might be wondering.  I started the third story in the Brookfield series a little while ago. Its titled Catching Connor. I'd like to work on that one. As well as the second story in the Love Strikes series. The first book is Bidding Wars, and it's still looking for its home. Bidding Wars  is a very sweet, closed door contemporary romance. I hope it has a home soon. I should be hearing from the first place I subbed it to before long. I hope for good news of course.

Besides that, not a whole lot. I recently wrote a 15k novella, The Naked Truth, that is also on hunt for a home. I've thought about making it a series as well. A billionaire series. Since we all love those! Rich men, sweeping in and taking care of us. Yes...yes please!

Well, my daughter's room is calling. Its on the agenda today. Its the worst room of the whole house! And we've only lived here since June. If I don't blog next week, just know her room ate me!

Silent Night, Unexpected Night by Ella Jade

I've got Ella Jade visiting again! I love when she stops by. :) Picture

Ever since his divorce several years ago, Dr. Tanner Rhodes has spent Christmas Eve alone. He has a tradition; he sits by the fire, sips his brandy, and falls asleep by the lights of the tree. When his son Aiden's beautiful friend, Sofia, shows up unexpectedly at his door bearing gifts, everything changes. When had Sofia become a woman?

Excerpt You're going to make this hard on me, aren't you?” An uneasy smile graced her pouty lips.

“I'm sorry, but you have to clarify this for me.”

“I know you spend this night by yourself every year. I usually do too because of my dad's work schedule. I didn’t see why either one of us should be alone tonight.” She leaned closer to his face allowing him to take in more of her enticing scent. “I wanted to be with you. I mean, I want to be with you.”

He continued to run his fingertips along her cheek and jawbone indulging in the feel of her soft skin. “You didn’t want me to be alone? That's very sweet.” Perhaps he had misunderstood her intentions. For some odd reason, disappointment filled him again. Maybe he wanted her to admit to more.

“You probably think I'm crazy. I swear I'm not a stalker.”

He laughed.

“I don’t know what it is, but I'm very intrigued by you.” When she looked away from him he sensed her embarrassed over her words. Obviously, it took a lot for her to come to him tonight.

He pressed his palm to her face. “I was thinking the same thing about you.”

Her big brown eyes widened as he raised her head to look at him.

“I'll be honest, I haven't given you much thought through the years, other than you being my son's shy, awkward friend, but tonight when I saw you, I couldn’t believe the woman you've become. You're breathtaking.”

She shook her head.

“You don’t believe me?” He twirled a stand of her hair around his finger. “Why not?”

“No one's ever said that about me before.”

“Hmm.” He didn’t know what possessed him, but he brushed his lips against her jaw. He had to know if her skin would be as soft to his lips as it was against his fingers.

She quivered as he lingered against her face.

“Still cold?” he asked.

“No.” She stared directly into his eyes. “Quite the opposite.”

“Can I kiss you?”
