Letter B

____________
Don’t ask me why, but the letter B, buzzes in my brain. Be careful, beware, be who you are, be kind, be in sync.
Last month Jim and I filled the truck with our recycling. The abundance of newspapers, the wine bottles, the plastic, and the aluminum cans, make their own statement and keep me humbled. This time however, a nest of bees had nestled inside a cardboard box, making a home.

I Marvel

____________
My youngest daughter, Elly, married this past weekend. A magnificent ceremony filled with so much love and consideration for all who attended, that my heart aches with pride, joy, and sadness.
Funny how all emotions swirl inside as we let go and see the newness, the fresh take on love and commitment. Family and friends encased the event with their special devotion to the couple.
I marvel how my children have launched into adulthood, become independent, and forged their own path. As I write, I’m waiting for the funny line to wow you, where I’ll make you laugh. But as I cast my thoughts back into memories, see the lines of growth, I’m struck by the power of love.

Old Soul

I’ve often wondered if I was a throw-back,
a soul that came before, and if so, how did that affect me? Even now, as I look
into the eyes of my grand-kids, I sense times of long ago, and hold onto
old-fashioned ways. I followed in the
footsteps of my Bubbie in her world of baking from scratch. Each recipe held a
story: matzo balls, gefilte-fish, strudel, mandel bread and chicken soup told
of her history. Her essence was
tradition. I clung to the old ways with
a sensibility that pulled me inward.
