Works In Progress
I’m always working on a number of things at once. As of today, here’s where they stand. You can compare these to the progress report I posted two weeks ago.
SIXTY-FIVE STIRRUP IRON ROAD
Completed. Turned in to publisher.
CITY OF THE DEAD: UNCUT
Editing final manuscript. Will be turned in to publisher this week.
THE LAST OF THE ALBATWITCHES
This new Levi novella is almost finished.
THE LOST LEVEL
Getting there, albeit slowly still. This is a completely revised version (after I scrapped two earlier versions).
HOLE IN THE WORLD
Also getting there. Also slowly.
SUBURBAN GOTHIC
This Urban Gothic sequel is percolating on the back burner.
Coming up behind these are With Teeth, a Levi novella tentatively called Invisible Monsters, the Author’s Preferred Edition of The Rising: Selected Scenes From the End of the World, an untitled collaboration with Bev Vincent, a collaboration with J.F. Gonzalez code-named The Bible, and the next two volumes in The Complete Short Fiction of Brian Keene series, respectively titled Other Worlds and A Little Hell From My Friends.

Dezm’s CITY OF THE DEAD Notes
Long-time readers know that Mark “Dezm” Sylva is one of my crucial pre-readers. His specialty is keeping track of the continuity in my ever-expanding mythos. You might also remember that he sometimes does this with diagrams (such as the infamous Eel Penis for EARTHWORM GODS II: DELUGE).
As Dezm, Tod, and Macker finish their pre-reading edits for the forthcoming Author’s Preferred Edition of CITY OF THE DEAD, I thought I’d share Dezm’s blueprints for Ramsey Towers, which helped him keep track of various character’s continuity. (Click pic to make larger)

Week in Review 8-17-13
Issues #3 and #4 of THE LAST ZOMBIE: THE END both hit stores this week, due to some wacky distribution issues. But if you prefer to wait for the trades, the final two trade paperbacks in THE LAST ZOMBIE series are up for pre-order.
Speaking of upcoming books, here’s a peek at some concept art for the next book in the Levi Stoltzfus series, THE LAST OF THE ALBATWITCHES.
September will bring a series of big announcements regarding the big screen adaptation of THE CAGE. Like the new Facebook Page or follow them on Twitter to keep informed.
And finally, we are helping my son’s former pre-school in their rebuilding efforts. Here’s how you can get involved.

Visions of Levi
After the cut, two versions of my recurring character Levi Stoltzfus (who you can read more about here). The first is M. Wayne Miller’s concept art for the forthcoming LAST OF THE ALBATWITCHES (which sees Levi squaring off against the cryptids from CASTAWAYS). The second is a portrait by author and real-life occult detective Bob Freeman.

THE LAST ZOMBIE: THE END #3 and #4
Due to some distribution issues, it appears that issues #3 and #4 of THE LAST ZOMBIE: THE END are on sale today in all good comic book stores. If your local shop doesn’t have them, CLICK HERE to buy directly from the publisher.
#3: The final chapter continues! Freed from captivity, the remnants of the team face down their captors and struggle to escape Chicago. But even if they survive, they’ll still have to decide the ultimate fate of one of their own, as Ian’s transformation into one of the living dead reaches its conclusion!!
#4: The final chapter continues! Now that Ian’s dark secret has finally been revealed, Warner and the rest of the team must decide what to do about it. But as they wrestle with his fate, a group of survivors in Kentucky have other plans—ones that might doom them all. It’s not just the dead who have a taste for the living!
If you’re new to the series, you can buy every back issue, as well as the trade paperback collections direct from the publisher.

THE CAGE – Coming Soon To A Theater Near You
I wrote a book called THE CAGE. In the US and UK, it’s available in paperback, Kindle, and Nook, and in Germany, it’s available in hardcover and Kindle. Now it’s going to be a movie. There are a TON of big announcements regarding that movie coming very soon, including casting. The best way to stay informed is to Like the movie’s Official Facebook Page and Follow the movie’s Official Twitter Feed. Go!

Rebuilding EYARC Pre-School
Last week, I told you about my son’s pre-school burning down. Even though Turtle and his friends will move on to big kid’s school later this month, this is still a blow to the community, so myself and some of the other parents are organizing efforts to help rebuild. That’s where you come in. If you’re not local, here are two ways you can help.
1. For the month of August, my friend Dawn has set up a Rebuild the EYARC Preschool online Thirty-One event. She will donate 100% of her commission from the sales to the school. August has a really outstanding special going on. Spend $35 and buy a purse for 1/2 off. This includes 7 new styles and patterns. You also have the ability to buy new wallets and key fobs that will be available in the fall catalog. To make sure the money from your purchase goes toward this event, PLEASE CLICK HERE. Then, click Shop Now.
2. For the month of August, I will be collecting donations of children’s books. Books should be appropriate for ages 3 through 5, and should be in new (or like new) condition. Books can be mailed to Brian Keene PO Box 281 Craley, PA 17312. Please mark the box with ‘Rebuild EYARC’ so it gets routed to me appropriately (I get a lot of mail and email and it often doesn’t get read or opened until weeks later).

Previously on Brian Keene Dot Com…
The most popular discussion of the week occurred in the aftermath of me walking away from a dream gig writing comic books full time for one of the Big Two, and my youngest son’s pre-school burning down, in which we debated what (if anything) differentiates a professional author from a hobbyist.
You can now pre-order the final two trade paperbacks in THE LAST ZOMBIE series.
I’m on the cusp of finishing several new novels, the first of which, SIXTY-FIVE STIRRUP IRON ROAD, (a novel that I co-wrote with Edward Lee, Jack Ketchum, Bryan Smith, J.F. Gonzalez, Wrath James White, Nate Southard, Ryan
Harding, and Shane McKenzie), has been turned in to the publisher.
A new signing was announced for later this month. The first round of authors for next year’s Scares That Care charity horror convention were also announced. Get your ticket and hotel reservations now!
And finally, you can also come say hi to me on Pinterest.
