What Toronto’s Mayor Robert Ford Is Reading

Toronto’s crack-smoking, oral sex-offering mayor Robert Ford should not be confused with Robert Ford, author of the new zombie novel The Compound.

Joel Lane R.I.P.

Jim McLeod of Ginger Nuts of Horror is reporting that author Joel Lane “passed in his sleep” last night. He was 50.

A two-time British Fantasy Award winner, as well as the Shirley Jackson Award, Lane was a well-respected and well-liked writer of not only dark fantasy and horror, but more mainstream works, as well. His works included The Blue Mask, The Lost District and Other Stories, From Blue to Black, and Do Not Pass Go. He also edited Beneath the Ground, and the anthologies Birmingham Noir (with Steve Bishop) and Never Again (with Allyson Bird).

Works in Progress

I’m always working on a number of things at once. As of today, here’s where they stand. You can compare these to the progress report I posted back in August. You’ll notice a lot of the works on that previous list are finished, and therefore, not listed here.

THE LOST LEVEL

Almost done.

INVISIBLE MONSTERS

New Levi novel.

HOLE IN THE WORLD

The finish line is in sight.

SUBURBAN GOTHIC

This Urban Gothic sequel is still percolating on the back burner.

THE SEVEN: THE LABYRINTH, Book 1

Yes. Long-rumored but finally coming.

After these are With Teeth, an untitled collaboration with Bev Vincent, a collaboration with J.F. Gonzalez code-named The Bible, and the next two volumes in The Complete Short Fiction of Brian Keene series.

A Different Take

Author Mykle Hansen sketched this during my reading of new short story “Fetish” at BizarroCon, as part of his ‘Crap Portraits of Great Writers‘ series. He even managed to include some excerpts from the story itself. Mykle’s a great author, too. His stuff is very funny and very dark. Below are a few of my favorites, and I highly recommend them. Click the covers to order, or click here to see all his titles:

Over the last decade, Alan M. Clark has illustrated more of my book covers than any other artist, creating iconic images beloved not just by my fans, but horror fiction readers in general. But did you know that you can hang those same book covers on your wall? Be they prints of The Rising or the original artwork for Urban Gothic, you can find them all in Alan’s online store just in time for Christmas.

Click here to browse a massive inventory of prints, posters, original art, and paintings, not only from my books, but books by Stephen King, Richard Laymon, and many others, as well. Or click here to order prints specifically from my books.

HAIL SATEN came early

Disregard what I said in my last post. Instead of launching January 1st, I decided to launch today. Here’s the first of many new rants. Enjoy. And yes, this website will change focus a bit, featuring primarily news and updates on books, comics, and other new releases. Those looking for essays on writing, etc. should bookmark Hail Saten instead.
