Hibernating

My last day of work is tomorrow, and I’m vacillating between outright denial and abject sadness. My last day of students was Friday last week, and subsequently I spent the entire weekend as a hermit. Literally. I read three books on Sunday. All of which is to say, I am thinking about the blog, and I have a couple of posts in mind, but… they must wait. Next week, I have 4 days totally to myself, to rest and recover a little. Hopefully then I’ll be able to write some real posts for you, and hav...

Found This in August’s Drafts. Oh Dear.

Soooooo, Liana Brooks (aka The Twinny One) and I may or may not have had a bizarre conversation the other day. Okay wait, let’s face it: the odds are strong that we did, because most conversations between us involve bizarrity. We’re authors. It happens.

Right. No. This conversation was particularly bizarre, and it may or may not have gone something like this… (with the context that I have yeast-sensitivities, and if I eat too much bread I get sick ;))

Out of Tune Book Blast: Giveaway #2!

Twenty-year-old Maggie Roads’ parents are legendary in the country music world. She wants nothing more than to follow their example, but the limelight is not reserved for singers who cannot carry a tune, let alone keep a rhythm.

When her parents tell her they are getting divorced, Maggie decides it’s time to leave home and take her future into her own hands. Moving in with Cole, her best friend and sometimes boyfriend might not be the best of ideas, but she has to start somewhere.

Their off-and...

On Choosing Books To Buy

Just realised the books I bought as post-marking treats (for when I get through the 22 hours of marking due Thursday, it now being midnight on Friday…) fully epitomise all the possible ways of choosing a book to read. Observe:

books

Exhibit A: bought for title, because hello awesome. Also further convinced by premise – a girl who can taste emotions? So cool.

Exhibit B: bought based on a gazillion recommendations of people I trust.

Exhibit C: bought for the world. This is a related-stand alone to March...

A Novel Is Not An Allegory

A novel is not an allegory…. It is the sensual experience of another world. If you don’t enter that world, hold your breath with the characters and become involved in their destiny, you won’t be able to empathize, and empathy is at the heart of the novel. This is how you read a novel: you inhale the experience. So start breathing.

The Tour Begins…

First stop: Madison Louise!!

So, for most of this week I’m guest posting around the internet as celebration for the release of To Dust and Other Stories (SQUEE). Today, I’m over at Madison’s blog talking about my ‘daily’ writing habit (ha!).

Tomorrow, I’ll be over with Liana Brooks, discussing… something… that will be interesting… probably. Lookit me be organjised.

Tomorrow evening, because of time zone differences, I’ll be here squeeing like a hyperactive maniac about the fact that To Dust will...
