Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

gilmoregirls_hzka_us_preIf you haven’t at least heard about it, then you are officially living in a cave. It’s a Netflix series original, and a revival of the beloved showthat aired on the CW (or whatever it was called back then) from 2000 to 2007.

Today, I’m chatting about it with two talented authors (and all-around fantastic humans), Susan Meissner and Rachel Hauck.

We’re a good mix, we three.

Rachel’s been watching Gilmore Girls from its inception. Susan didn’t watch it until recently, when she started hearing t...

Poldark: An Unfortunate Case of Character Assassination

It happened in season 6 of Parenthood. Close your eyes if you don’t wanna know!

Parenthood fans know what I’m talking about. When our beloved and loyal and devoted Joel turnsinto this unrecognizable character that leaves his remorseful wife and refuses to work on their marriage. Mostlybecause of a kissthat, lest we forget, also happened between him and Racquel in season 1 or 2.

I was irate, because thatwas not my Joel! My Joel would stay and fight for his wife. He would never leave. Th...

Paving a Way to Unity

Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. – Romans 12:15-16

In this cultural climate where many are weepingand many others are callingfor harmony, these have to be two of the most relevant verses in the Bible right now.

Weep with those who weep.

Live in harmony with one another.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they come hand-in-hand. I don’t think it’s a co...

The Evolution of a Story

Four and a half years ago, I finished writing a book called A Broken Kind of Beautiful and wasn’t sure what to write next.

I’m not one of those writers who has a constant overflow of story ideas. A disconcerting thing, especially whenI’m around those writers who have a constant overflow of story ideasandlike to say things like:

I just started this story, but five other ideas are calling my name!

All the while,I twiddle my thumbs and whistle off in the corner, trying not to panic that I’ve use...

A Warm Reminder Giveaway

I need a happy place.

Does anybody else need a happy place?

I mean, I have my new cover with which I’m a wee bit obsessed. When the world looks dark and gray, thishas become a sort of happy place.

Life After

But even that can’t shooaway all the divisiveness that seems to be lurking around every social media corner these days.

We’re all so busy feeling offended or slightedor defensive or indignant that we’re forgetting about Romans 12:10.

Be devoted to one another in love.Honor one another above yoursel...

Lean Close and Listen: A Mashup

I’m disturbed. To my very core.

I’m disturbed by the deathsof Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. I’m disturbed by the deaths of five police officers in Dallas. And now, more death in Baton Rouge.

Life is life. Valuable. No matter what.

Death is death. Tragic. No matter what.

And I’m disturbed.

I’m also afraid.

But not in the way you might think.

Right now, it is unclear what motivated the shooter in Baton Rouge to open fire on police officers. But assoon as news broke, the narrative was s...

Nobody’s Calling You a Racist (and 5 Action Points)

Black Lives Matter.

It’s a movement that started a couple years ago. People have all kinds of opinions and reactions to it, especially in light of recent events.

I’ve been having my fair share of conversations. Trying to figure out how to navigate it allas a white female who has no idea what it’s like to be a black person in America. A white female who has the luxury of turning off social media and the news and thus, turning off the issue.

The idea of racism is the central topicin these conve...

Cliffhangers, Trilogies, and Money … Oh My!

IMG_3712Raise your hand if you’veheard of Voxer.

It’s basically the best app known to man. At least, it’s the best app known to anybody who starts to twitchwhenever the phone rings, but also isn’t the biggest fan of texting.

Essentially, it’s a walkie-talkie app. Only you don’t have to talk live.

For all you nay-sayers out there wondering, “Why don’t you just leave a voice message?”or “How is that different than thattext-talking feature?” Trust me. On Voxer, you NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SOMEBODY ANS...
