this is how I use facebook...

this is how I use facebook...cross-posting, sharing, convincing, and caring...

please help these beautiful, eager, haunted, expressive orphans who have been photographed, to link US at our keyboards in various locations with their stories and contact information. take 5 seconds to click onto their "life-line" photographs which then fills monitors with contact information...be sure to click SHARE when you see that information so that these lives reach even more humans and can be spared to find homes...please and thank you! please? we CAN save them all if we ALL care and work together to do so! yay! ♥!!!!

i gotta share these faces and hope you will also pass them along for their last chance to live out their lives. put america on the map as a nation who prioritizes animal welfare and rights to life~! thanks so much...just click onto their photographs to find the word SHARE and to save lives daily and nightly. bless those who care ... and those who learn to care. and ADOPT AT LEAST ONE OR TWO! ♥!!!

when I look at some of these photos of unwanted animals I wonder if it is ‎2012 in a third world country? no, this is an unwanted living being in the U.S.A.

can we scooch over a tad and make some room for the surplus of frightened souls already here and educate the public about spaying and neutering and encourage lower costs for those operations? let's give it a try to stop the second by second killings of sentient orphans stacked up waiting to die. thanks for helping...thanks for adopting...at least one or two.

if everybody could do what they can, we could empty these cages and start all over again...there are more than enough homes for all of the orphans caught in the storm of homelessness. thanks for helping to make that wonderful possibility a certainty. yes!

nighty night...adopt a shelter pet thursday or friday? oh, thanks for doing so. what a difference we could make...empty the cages! oh, wow! thanks for caring! ♥!!

when human nature gets in the way of animal/nature

every once in a while, in a facebook animal welfare/rights/rescue group, you come across someone more worried about their respective group's "rules" than the big picture.

these officious animal folks always make me put my tail between my legs, and i whimper and i go away forever. i was probably, in another life, one of those beloved animals i work hard for every day -- no matter what species.

when you're shooed (is that a word?) off, it is discouraging. to be so single-minded in a group's focus and/or leadership limits free-thinking, diversity of voices, and engaged participation.

animal advocacy can get like that - which does not bode well for those other species for which we all wish to do our best. we disagree among ourselves and forget the cause.

if people could just be kind to each other as well as to all animals...i love them all and am still trying to figure out the breed called "human" though...

and we are still proud that we saved the lives of our geese one spring. i have a lump in my throat. i feel like a twelve year old. but, wow, it hurts my heart. i'll rebound. i observe animals and they are masters of forgiving.

a bit bruised...but stronger than ever. brave hearts are required! ;D

postscript...

ah, well...made me stop and think...difficult to do when we advocate all day long. if those animals we work to save could only write some essays and books and teach us even more than they do already...those of us who stop to appreciate them all...they are such teachers!

mary beth purdy-artz, thanks for all that you do and for your sweet nature...your naturally sweet nature! that very personable personality inspires others and encourages support of your causes!

and, roy sexton, had it not been for your efforts and your support of my intense love for animals, so many would no longer be alive and well. thanks for caring so much for people and for animals...who are all the same actually.

have you ever tried to discuss ideas with a politician?

have you ever tried to discuss ideas with a "politician"? impossible...all they want are donations...well, send your donations to homeless cats and dogs and organizations working to end the slaughter of animals instead.

forget donations to politicos...they use that cash to get a cushy job and forget all about the poor and the suffering and those they can consider beneath their new station in life. it's all about money! and arrogant new power.

...honestly, they allllll want money and for us to shut up...never a thank you or truly listening to the concerns of citizens...it is all WHAT MAKE SAMMY RUN time...opportunism financed with donations and then "pet" projects for those who gave them enough cash and the rest of us pay through the nose one way or another...

we finance their catering to the wrong crowds and their lifestyles and their kissing up to the hugest fat cat lobbyists.

now, that's terrorism. and that is frightening. and that should end.

no more money...running on ideas and improvements and fairness in the lives of as many living beings as possible should garner wholesome, natural votes from intelligent hearts! corrupted system out of control...what a sorry shame.

My letter to the editor about Rep. Marlin Stutzman was in today's Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette. You can read it if you click here.

Appreciate so much the comment Tangi Rogers Goeglein posted on the Fans of Susie Duncan Sexton's Facebook wall:

"I read your letter to the editor this morning in the Journal-Gazette. You said everything I have been feeling about our senator. He does not seem to care at all about the welfare of animals. I have received his 'letters' also stating he will be voting no on different issues relating to animal welfare. Thank you for your letter!"

wow wow wow...i have goose bumps for the first time in my writing career! love it! love her!

Mr. Stutzman...

Mr. Stutzman:

Extremely disappointed that the votes of a large and burgeoning portion of your constituency do not matter to you. Your advocacy for de-regulation of the farm "industry" is revelatory of self-interest and the resultant desire to please only a certain segment of voters in order to assure your election to office.

Received a canned letter today from your office outlining why you side with the agricultural voting block and cater to their support rather than insisting upon the humane treatment of animals…one of many replies received from you throughout the past months.

Remember that this Earth, that we all have a stake in, generates -- by the second -- more and more individuals whose concern resides in kindness, a fair appraisal of environmental issues, and the welfare and yes, rights, of animals.

We shall not support any future candidacy of you, sir.

We shall urge others to look elsewhere for the prioritizing of intelligent, humane treatment of animals as well as respectful attention to those voters who have the good sense to care deeply and responsibly about all forms of life.

Thank you for reading.

The Sexton Family

sick of the doubletalk...let's ban that

In response to the article "To Hell With Ban on Profanity" (click here):

there we go! how about targeting meat-eaters and rampant adultery and hypocrisy for starters instead of being pompous about saying "hell" and "damn"...

we are headed in the wrong direction.

freedom to be you and me means we all need to practice tolerance. most of us put up with crap of one variety or another and have for years.

what a smorgasbord of "morality" issues we now find ourselves dealing with...sick of the doubletalk...let's ban that?

"sticks and stones" should not be thrown ever. now, THAT is serious business.

Ann Arbor is more than a friendly Midwestern town...

Enjoy this op-ed piece written by Penny Seats president Lauren M. London, who will be playing Amalia Balash in the production this summer of She Loves Me, alongside my son Roy Sexton, who will be playing Georg. (The show opens July 26 - click the words "Penny Seats" above to order tickets.) You can read the full version by clicking here...

Below is an excerpt:

"Ann Arbor is more than a 'friendly' Midwestern town; its inhabitants can't stay away from each other. We hold festivals, dance in the streets, run in races, play music, go to shows, publicize lectures, publish books, watch football in the country's largest stadium, eat outside whenever possible and, once a year, we watch life-sized papier maché puppets parade down Main Street....The Penny Seats, one of Ann Arbor's newest theaters, began life two years ago. Honestly, our beginning was not without some trepidation about the sheer number of choices that already exist here. Would we be welcome? Would there be an audience? We needn't have worried...."

but think about how those very people treat human beings as well...

this video clip (view by clicking here) is a valuable four minutes, pointing out the need to include all living beings in our hearts and minds and give them room on our planet once they are born.

parenthood isn't just a human invention. life matters...and birth control matters as well. time to curb reproduction and make room for those already alive to continue living. a-men! ;D ♥!!!!!!

i was told by someone quite close to me that a young father loaded up calves to be turned into veal on mother's day...she watched the babies ride by her window as she talked on the phone. i shall never forget her words...started me on the road to veganism. that exact conversation. that very one.

and i have been a vegan for a year now...i always shall.

from that day ironically, I, and not she, began to speak up in no uncertain terms. sorry that such incidences occur...quite movng that she chose to share that moment with me. and i shall never stop advocating...not ever. no way.

not since that moment which she shared and which i have now witnessed several times myself via videos and documenataries...for anyone to dare refer to such brutality as LIVElihood is shameful and thoughtless and clueless and self-serving.

but think about how those very people treat human beings as well...a distinct correlation.

Wonderful radio interview with my friend Jim Robertson about his marvelous book "Exposing the Big Game."

Here is a description of the interview:

Jim Robertson is a wildlife photographer and self-taught naturalist who makes his home in a remote wilderness setting in the Pacific Northwest, beyond the reach of cable television and mercifully out of earshot of Sarah Palin's daily sound bites. Wild Time talked to Jim about his new book "Exposing The Big Game", which challenges the archaic, yet officially endorsed, viewpoint that the primary value of wildlife in America is to provide cheap entertainment for anyone with a gun and an unwholesome urge to kill.

Thought-provoking and heartfelt post(s) from my friend Edward Levine yesterday on the "Fans of Susie Duncan Sexton's 'Old Type Writer'" fan page - here are some excerpts...

Susie, I am sending you this in segments because I have lost it 4 times, I have sent it to other sites and gotten very positive feedback...I am posting on your page because so many people will see it....I hope there is some way you can put together...You will get it in 4 or 5 segments...

I just got off a site call Save Tony…I'm sure it can be googled....He was ripped away from his loving family because of a bogus "vicious dog" complaint......The petition said please Save Tony from being euthanized.....OK here we go again. After signing the petition, I wrote Tony is not being euthanized. Tony is a young, healthy dog being murdered in a Kill-Shelter, or as I prefer to call them a death camp for animals.

Would anyone call Auschwitz a "shelter"...I don't think so......12 million innocent men women and children were slaughtered because they made the mistake of or committed the crime of being born: Jewish, Gypsy, Black...

4.3 million dogs and cats are murdered every year in death camps for animals because they also committed the crime of being born....4.3 million, Holocaust like numbers.....

I wrote on save Tony's page what is being done should be illegal to rip him away from his loving family just as the Nazis ripped away children from their parents never to be seen again...Does anyone see the similarity here? I certainly do......

We must not use sugar-coated terms like "euthanize,” “put to sleep" or "shelter" when they do not apply. When what is happening is mass murder.

What is being done to Tony and his family is what happened to Lennox pretty much.....As far as a polar opposite can go from "euthanizing" like I did to my beloved dog on January 20th.....It is an insult to me. And should be to every animal lover who puts a pet to sleep with love and compassion and many, many tears falling....

Prisoners were put in a gas chamber or shot and buried in a mass grave after they were no longer productive.....Animals are put in a gas chamber, not shot, but instead have a stick poked in their heart.

I had the misfortune to watch a video with a camera placed inside by an undercover agent. To see these animals crowded in a corner, terrified, gasping for their last breaths brought me to serious crying. All the people on animal rescue sites and advocacy sites, I implore you never to use the word shelter, when that "facility" throws animals into a gas chamber. I implore you never to say these animals are being euthanized or "put to sleep."

We put our beloved pets to sleep when they are too old or too sick and life is no longer a joy for them. We hold them, kiss them, talk to them and pet them until the vet puts them "painlessly" to eternal sleep. ….We do not throw our beloved pets in a gas chamber.

Again using the real terms of what is happening I believe will also make more people aware of the atrocities that we animal lovers force ourselves to watch every day. In the long run that can only also help to save lives....So again I implore every person on these site who are passionate about saving as many lives as possible, to post and share pictures of animals that need rescuing.

Please forget the word "euthanize" or “put to sleep" or “shelter” where they do not apply. I love that 5% of these facilities will not kill under any circumstances....I volunteered in one, and only the sick and terminal were "euthanized" by a compassionate vet with all the wonderful employees and volunteers at the shelter all taking turns petting, kissing, hugging making sure this animal left us knowing love. Very, very different from a heart stick or a gas chamber.

I respect your opinion, Susie, so much…please help me get the message out how important the proper terminology is to help save more innocent, scared, terrified, little, beautiful furry creatures....Love, Ed

Compassion does contain the word passion...

it is a war between good and evil...and apathy...empathy must rule the day. we must never roll over and play dead in the face of cruelty. we must reach those people who have open, caring hearts and urge them to speak up often and emphatically...

we can CHANGE those who perpetrate bruitish behavior toward the innocent...either through education or legislation. gotta start NOW. if punishment is the answer, so be it

i am just now reading a rotary bulletin discussing all the damage that deer do to ...TREES and landscaping?????...so i am sure for a civic project the theme will be OFF WITH THEIR HEADS...committee at work on that right now...i am one lone voice in a wilderness and pissing off townspeople right and left...i can barely leave the house these days.

but i am persisting. even with stomach ulcers! ;D others may agree with stopping these murders but they ain't ever gonna own up to it and join in to stop it...not here anyway...i am it!

this is an important conversation...wishing we could get some folks to aid us in seeking legislation...although i think we are all IMPORTANT souls, high-profile and recognizable persons recruited to our cause would be fantastic!

so glad we are exchanging ideas and dreams and philosophies...somebody said to me today that it is not natural to be cruel to animals and to wish them ill...but the almighty dollar and fear of retribution closes mouths and shuts down hearts...something is going on...why are most people so reticent to stand up for kindness and supporting the cessation of rampant brutality...and why do so many others swagger and talk roughly about animals?

at least the "tree" committee seems to be working around deer munching their saplings this go-round...noticed that they are going to plant the tree "starts" differently so that deer cannot upset the landscaping plans.

(burger king now going to serve up BACON SUNDAES -- i am seeing on CNN right now THAT idiotic news all perkily delivered by the newscastress!)

wow, compassion does contain the word "passion"...and that is what it takes...we gotta stop the madness and the massacres and we can...we truly can. ♥ yep!!!!!

The Colin Lively: The 2nd installment of Sheepshead Bay Boulevard...starring Colin, Judy Stadt, & Susie Sexton

Back in March, author Danny Kemp joined Colin Lively to discuss how he went from constable, to cabbie, to successful author. Danny is quirky and colorful, and to be married to him means…well, you’d have to be a little quirky and colorful yourself, right? Patty & Danny Kemp joined Colin live from the UK to reveal what life is like now with the great success of Danny’s book The Desolate Garden. Plus, the second installment of Sheepshead Bay Boulevard aired… starring Colin as Max Frank… Susie Sexton as Nora Redmond…and the writer, producer, director, Judy Stadt as Leslie.

Listen to the broadcast here...very funny stuff!

Colin writes, "Danny Kemp was one of my absolute favorite guests. During the March show, which can be heard in the archives, his wife, Patsy is in the background talking constantly… Literally, behind every successful man is a woman. Patsy captivated me and my listeners, and on Friday’s show, I will be talking to Patsy Kemp and what it’s like being the wife of the man who has gone from cab driver to one of England’s most exciting novelists. A summer read all over the British Isles is Danny’s master work, The Desolate Garden.. I understand it is being read by the likes of Jools Holland, and that a copy of it is being circulated through Buckingham Palace. Now that the Queen’s Jubilee is behind her, she may want to curl up and enjoy the thriller that Danny has written… Patsy’s life certainly has changed and I will be talking to Patsy about how she is coping with Danny’s celebrity status. How has it affected Danny? How has it affected Patsy?… She is candid and very funny. I am impatiently waiting for our conversation. Surely one of my best. And I will even let Danny talk… a bit, maybe… but mostly Patsy. And yes, yes, yes! The second installment of Sheepshead Bay Boulevard is ready… starring me as Max Frank… Susie Sexton as Nora Redmond…and the writer, producer, director, Judy Stadt as Leslie."
