Happy Tuesday!

Tim and I had a very motivating discussion this morning about our lives, and how we want them to be, and thusly, I've made up for a little lost time, so here's my brag of the day:

Additionally, today I got to write about a Battle of the Bands that ends in a bloodbath, a hatecloud swirling like a tornado, indoor lightning, a black unicorn in need of rescue, and a bad-ass fairy taking a swan dive into a sea of drug-addled terrifying monsters.

I love my job!!!

So, Happy Christmas, peeps!

Monday Morning Christmas Goodies!
Today's Monday Funny is...

Monday Morning Christmas Goodies!

Today's Monday Funny is a continuation of last week's:

Christmas Presents, Achievement Unlocked! by RedTash

I've considered doing comics on Fridays, because "Friday Funny" makes a lovely alliteration, but frankly, I enjoy spending my Monday mornings working on these babies, so I doubt I'll switch.  I'm weird, though, so you never know.

Regardless, I love making comics!  I just checked, and it looks likely that Brad from StripCreator will restore my old comics to his site (previously deleted due to database error), so in the future, I may switch back and forth between the b&w splendor of StripGenerator & the multi-color craziness of SC.  That may mean very little to you, but to me…EXCITEMENT!  Eventually I may get Tim to hook up the drawing pad to the PC, as well.  Then, you can partake of my HORRIBLE stick-man comics, which you shall surely love as much or more than these well-drawn & somewhat classy-looking prefabs.  ;)

Choices & options are always good.

I'm giving you a choice, if you'd like a custom comic today.  I'd like for you to share this post somewhere.  Either Facebook, or Twitter, or Goodreads would work.  I'm not picky.  You just need to let me know you did it, okay?  I will try not to keep you waiting too long for your comic, either, but please do be patient, as Auntie Red has been moving a little slower than she'd like these past couple of days.  I'm sure holiday stress has nothing to do with it!

Speaking of holiday stress, best-selling author Marissa Farrar and I decided to exchange some Christmas questions, and I bore easily, so I asked her for some crazy ones!  She answered mine here, and her answers to me are below!  They're fun, so please scroll down the pic of super sexy Marissa and read-on!

Could you say no to this face?

Worst Christmas Memory: When I was about ten, my Dad came down with a kidney stone and had to be rushed to hospital on Christmas Eve. That one was pretty bad. The Christmas that comes in a close second is when I was about eight and had measles on Christmas day. I was so sick, the whole day just felt like a blur and I spent the whole thing in bed!

Worst stocking stuffer: Socks! My husband always gets me socks. It's become a big of a standing joke now and we always end up getting each other a pair of novelty socks. It's become a tradition!

Most-dreaded relative: I only have a small family, so I'd hate to say!!!

Make up a fake name for a reindeer from hell: Little Horn the Red Eyed Reindeer!

Which holiday tv special creeps you out the worst? It's not really a tv special, but the Gremlins always creeped me out - especially the part about his father getting stuck in the chimney dressed as Santa. I remember watching it as a child and getting pretty freaked out by that idea!

In other news…the winner of the Roller Derby Girl Power Prize Pack is…

ASHLEY BREEN!  Ashley, please email me at RedTashBooks (at) gmail (dot) com to claim your prize.  I'll need your mailing address.  Additionally, I will be using your rollergirl's name as a character in Troll or Derby, as promised!

The competition was fierce, and ladies, you all submitted terrific names.  So terrific, in fact, I'm going to list them here and tell you why I liked them.  It was a real nightmare choosing a winner for this one.  If I had a dozen of these prize packs, I would just send each of you one.

Ashley submitted "Anita Stompsum."  I haven't checked the two evils database for that one, but it sounds like a genuine Derby name.  There's a girl on my former team called "Shellnita Crutch."  She started after I left, so I don't know her, personally, but "Anita Stompsum" sounds like something a real derby girl would go by.  Equal parts wit and intimidation.  I love how puns are encouraged in derby.

Kathryn H submitted "Rollin Low," which any derby girl would tell you is perfect.  When we play derby, we squat.  That's how my legs got so massive.  You know those wall-sits that build up your core muscles?  You really have to do those all the time, because a weak core just can't get low enough on skates, and if you're not low, you WILL get knocked over.  The lower the center of gravity, the higher the odds are you'll stay upright, and on your skates.  If you're splayed all over the track, you ain't helping no one, sweetie.

Julie Jansen submitted "La Terrona."  It just sounds terror-inducing, doesn't it?  Plus, it's an inside reference to the fact that she teaches Italian, and derby girls are all about making up names that refer to their personal interests.  In a similar vein, the lovely JKP gives us "Frenchie La Terreur."  I would proudly skate with both these international beauties!

Pippi (hi, Pippi!) submitted "Vanilla Absolute," which sounds like a reference to a kind of alcoholic beverage, does it not?  Or, it could be a shout-out to the Missionary Man in her life, I don't know.  Either way,  alcohol & sex are staples of the Derby mindset.  It's the only sport I know of where you play in fishnets and have margaritas after practice.

Deanna Boocock gives us "Zombie Girl."  Again, straight terror = good.  There are plenty of derby girls who paint their faces for bouts, and I could see a Zombie Girl doing that.  Check out all the images google brings back for rollergirl zombies.  Similarly, Mary Rojette tears it up with her "Bloody Moniker."  (PS  Mary, still waiting for you to claim your prize from the Pickle contest!  Please email me!)

BooksforMe gives us "Butterfly-girl Maverick," which combines both the feminine imagery of the butterfly with the "I'm my own boss" attitude of a Maverick (Madonna, anyone?).  OR, it's an obscure reference to Top Gun.  Either way, thumbs up!  I feel like Kellynutrition's "Pixie Pants" would probably skate in tandem with Butterflygirl Maverick, and between the two of them, there'd be some fast footwork and a whole lotta beautiful whips!

Zanza gives more of a character name submission: "Jessica Bonebreaker Hunter"; as does Jesse Kimmel-Freeman: "Bev (Short for Beverly) "Teeth Knocker" Wiseman."  Both these names are good, or good starts.  I'm betting that the girls' teams would have a brain-storming session to make "Bonebreaker" and "Teeth Knocker" the highlights of these two!  Excellent effort!

Lastly, but certainly not least, is our runner-up, the McHugh's submisson: "JessiCacophony."  What's not to like about this name?  I really kind of secretly hope Jessica goes ahead and uses the name, in real life derby.  I'm sure she could rock it!

Before we say adieu for the day, there have only been TWO entries in Alexandra Lanc's giveaway of the This Brilliant Darkness paperback + coffee mug + bookmark.  Would you consider entering that, &/or sharing it with your friends?  Today's the deadline.

Michelle Muto's giveaway lasts until Wednesday, so you've still got some time to enter that one.

Okay!  So, that was music, dancing, cartoons, skating, prizes, hrm…am I leaving anything out this fine Monday morning?  How about some other author blog hops, how about that, huh?  How about that.
