Cameron Garriepy is a New England-based author of smart, sexy, small-town love stories. She’s been devouring romance novels since she discovered Judith Krantz in the stacks of the local library...a long time ago. I lost an important friendship in my early thirties, and I never knew why. Procedural mystery isn't my thing, but a woman in search of what she might have done to drive someone away? That could absolutely be a plot.(less)

Jamie and Claire from Outlander come to mind, especially as they've aged and adventured together through the series. One of my favorite couples is actually from an obscure IT caper novel from the 90s: Verity Banks and Zoltan Tor from A Calculated Risk by Katherine Neville. And then the first romance couple I read when I was smuggling Nora Roberts titles home from the library as a teen: Caroline and Tucker from Carnal Innocence.

Oh, no! Wait, a bonus one! Dona St. Columb and Jean Benoit Aubrey from Frenchman's Creek by Daphne DuMaurier.

I think in all four cases there's a sense of being externally mismatched, but filling some quiet need in the other, and instead of grand romantic gestures or obvious declarations, their love stories are all rooted in understanding and responding to one another in the small moments.(less)

Blink’s Fry Doe: A Buck’s Landing Excerpt

This excerpt originally appeared here on September 2, 2012. And then I re-did the entire site.

Our annual week at Hampton Beach is off the table this year. The Summer That Wasn’t doesn’t have room for crowds and sharing a cramped beach rental (with a single bathroom!) with several branches of the family. The three of us are making the best of it, and I’m doing my best to recreate some of our

Tom Stoppard
“We shed as we pick up, like travellers who must carry everything in their arms, and what we let fall will be picked up by those behind. The procession is very long and life is very short. We die on the march. But there is nothing outside the march so nothing can be lost to it. The missing plays of Sophocles will turn up piece by piece, or be written again in another language. Ancient cures for diseases will reveal themselves once more. Mathematical discoveries glimpsed and lost to view will have their time again. You do not suppose, my lady, that if all of Archimedes had been hiding in the great library of Alexandria, we would be at a loss for a corkscrew?”
Tom Stoppard, Arcadia

Gregory Maguire
“There's a reason we live in time. We are too small a flask [...] to tolerate too much knowing. Instead, truth must drip through us as through a pipette, to allow only moments of apprehension. Moments diffuse and miniature enough to be survived.”
Gregory Maguire, Out of Oz

Steven Moffat
“The universe is big, its vast and complicated, and ridiculous. And sometimes, very rarely, impossible things just happen and we call them miracles. And that's the theory. Nine hundred years, never seen one yet, but this would do me.”
Steven Moffat

Colin Meloy
“An old bandit adage: A bell is a cup until it is struck.”
Colin Meloy

John Dolan
“As someone once said, SINCERITY is the single most important human characteristic. So once you can fake THAT, you're made.”
John Dolan, Everyone Burns
