Perception vs. Reality

This is a post that I have planned to write for a while. Every time I think of it, something has come up that seemed more pressing at the time, more important. And it kept me from writing what I am about to write, from sharing what I have some to realize as the most important struggle that the world may ever know, because it is the most invisible. I struggled to find the words to explain how I

Happy Halloween 2012!

Happy Halloween Everyone! I'm getting this done early because I still have work to do on my sons costume (He's going as Death the Kid from Soul Eater). I submitted a story for a local contest, as I have several times, and it has been rejected yet again! I'm thinking of making it a annual thing.

My stories tend to be a little "high concept" for a local free newspaper, but it's a fun

Lie! (to your readers)

The lie. The long con. Shading the truth. Pulling the wool over their eyes.

They all amount to the same thing. Lying.

Your parents told you to always tell the truth, then proceeded to ignore that advice at various points every year in order to bring magic into your life. Your parents were wrong, and even worse, they were hypocrites.

Is that a bad thing? No. Lying as human as emotion, an

Flow Futuristic

I read an interesting interview on Wired magazine the other day of William Gibson. I'm a huge William Gibson fan, so I naturally checked it out. The main premise of the interview was regarding the percentage of the time that Science Fiction authors "get it right", as opposed to the times that they come up with something that didn't happen to become reality.

In the comments, I argued that they

(Apparently) I am the next big thing!

(EDIT-I originally had this scheduled to post on Wednesday, but due to a screw-up with the scheduling process, which was most likely my fault. Then, I had some pretty ugly formatting errors which caused half of the text to be barely legible, so I am reposting this again after making the corrections. Third times the charm!)

A little over a week ago, I was tagged into an circulating set of

How being more inefficient can make you a better human (and a writer).

My primary goal here is
to explain the pursuit of efficiency as folly for writers, but as
typical for me, I feel compelled to make my point in a roundabout
manner. Please bear with me though, as I think I may be on to
something helpful.

Efficiency is all the
rage nowadays. Your car, your air conditioner, anything that plugs
into an electrical outlet, are all continually scrutinized for how

Keepsake-Cover Reveal

Hello!

I understand that it's been a while since I posted, and longer still since I started a blog post without an apology for not posting more often. I have been busy, and there are announcements forthcoming once things get a little more finalized.

I do have one thing to share with you today, however. A while back I had the idea of making two YouTube series. One was to be called "Survive", and

The (Seemingly) Neverending Story

Sigh.

I really need to start making more of a commitment to post here. I've been so supremely busy writing pre://d.o.mai.n that I seem to have blocked out everything else.

But now that I have settled in to a steady pace towards completion of the first novel in my d.o.mai.n series, I realized that I haven't posted anything here in a while, and decided that I wanted to take a few minutes to

SURVIVE-Teaser Trailer 1

I generally try to keep my different projects separated, with this page keep to writing and my other pages carrying their specific torches, but seeing as though I will be scripting this project in it's entirety, I felt it was okay to share it here.

This is the first teaser trailer for an interactive YouTube project I am currently filming with my son, titled SURVIVE. The viewer will be required

Transcendence

Transcendence.

I'll admit, it's an awful long three-syllable word.

It's also the reason I am so interested in Fiction, especially Hard SF and Cyberpunk. It's why I try to keep tabs on the cutting edge developments in new technology.

In the marginal amount of research that I typically conduct for the posts, I found that Transcendence means different things to different people. There are
