Lily's Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake
Beanie, the main character in Blueberry Truth, likes to cook when she has the time. In the story, she makes her sister Lily's Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake. It's a good choice if you're looking for a special desert.
Here's the recipe:
Ingredients:
Vanilla Wafer Crust:
4 cups vanilla wafers
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
Lemon Filling:
2/3 cup sugar
4 eggs
24 ounce block of cream cheese, softened and chopped
2/3 cup sour cream
1/3 cup lemon juice
1 teaspoon lemon zest
Blueberry Topping:
2 cups fresh blueberries
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons water
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Directions
1. Process vanilla wafers in food processor or blender into fine crumbs. Combine with melted butter and nutmeg in a medium bowl
2. Press crust ingredients into the bottom of a greased nine inch spring form pan. Refrigerate for one hour.
3. Preheat oven to 425 degrees
4. Beat eggs in large bowl. Add cream cheese, sour cream, lemon juice and lemon zest. Beat until well combined. Pour over chilled crust, spreading evenly.
5. Bake for 1 to 1 1/4 hour until crust is nearly set. Cool completely
6. Combine berries and sugar in medium saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat for about five minutes until sugar is disolved.
7. Reduce heat to simmer and cook for another five minutes
8. Combine water and cornstarch in a small cup. Stir into berries until mixture is thickened. Allow mixture to cool completely.
9. Pour berries over cheesecake. Spread evenly. Cover and chill for six hours or overnight.
Enjoy!

Poetry Jam: Yellow
This weeks poetry jam challenge is to write about a poem about color. Here's my take on yellow:
Yellow
Yellow is daffodil, daisy eye,a dandelion picked inchildhood spring, forsythiaand the tall rag of golden rod.
Yellow is the sallow skin ofage, parchment worn diaphanous, old words on paper leftto dry inside of books;kitchenswarm with baking bread.
Yellow is the midday sunyoke centered in albumen.
Primary, strong and soft, it mixeswith the blue of skyand becomes greenlike grass
like hope.

Poetry Jam: Can't Hurt Us
The Challenge at Poetry Jam this week was to write a poem based on music or a song.
The main character, Cass, in my latest book, Without Wings, is a singer/songwriter. As I always do, I listened to a lot of music while writing the book. Can't Hurt Us isn't based on any one song in particular. It's more a song that Cass might have written.
Can't Hurt Us
They told us we would burnIf we tried to touch the sunThat our waxen wings would meltAnd we would fall
They told us that the roadWas bent by broken dreamsRoadblocks along the wayMade of crushed flying machines
And nothing comes of seekingExcept empty open handsBut babyThey don't understand
There's a light down on thishighwayWe ride with our arms openThere's a thing alive withfeathersIn our heartsAnd I'll hold you in the circleof promises unbroken
In the shelter of my armsThere is nothing that can't beNothing that can hurt usAnymore.
I'm currently searching for a publisher for Without Wings. And writing a few more songs for Cass to sing. For more poems based on music, visit Poetry Jam

Book Beginnings: The Art of Racing in the Rain
[image error]
I've just finished reading Garth Stein's "The Art of Racing in the Rain." It's a story told by Enzo, one of the world's wisest philosophers. It happens that Enzo is a dog.
I loved the story right from the beginning:
"Gestures are all that I have; sometimes they must be grand in nature. And while I occasionally step over the line and into the melodramatic, it is what I must do in order to communicate clearly and effectively."
