NotFound.org Gives 404 Pages a Useful Social Purpose
404 error pages are a necessary, but unpopular fact of life for most sites.
Every website needs a 404 page, just in case people use broken links to access your site.
But, what if you could make your 404 page useful? What if it could serve a larger purpose than simply redirecting your visitors?
That's the idea behind http://notfound.org. Not Found will still show your 404 page, but they'll also show the name, picture and important details about missing people.

One Week of Letting Anyone Track Me Online
Over the last week, I've deliberately let anyone track me online.
Normally, I'm a little paranoid about my privacy and use the Ghostery and Adblock Plus extensions with my browser.
However, I saw that Mozilla had launched Lightbeam, which they claim is an easy way to see exactly which sites are tracking you.
So, I decided to give Lightbeam a try. I used Firefox as my default browser and turned off any features that might stop people from tracking me.
Here's what I found after a week of unrestrained tracking ...

Video of Ethan Marcotte's The Map and the Territory
Ethan Marcotte was one of the keynote speakers at this year's Joomla World Conference in Boston.
Ethan's keynote address was called the "The Map and the Territory". He's a really engaging speaker, and it was wonderful to listen to his ideas for an hour.
Ethan is famous for creating the phrase "responsive web design" and many of the techniques involved. So it was interesting to hear Ethan outline why he thinks responsive design is no longer enough.

The Absolute Beginners Guide to Writing a Book
There are three kinds of people in this world:
Those who are going to write a book.
Those who are not going to write a book.
Those who are going fail in their attempts to write a book.
I'm an editor and it's my job to help turn potential failures into potential success stories.
For more than 25 years, I have helped authors through every stage of developing manuscripts on topics as diverse as children's books to church history to short stories to first-hand accounts of Hurricane Katrina to inspirational self-help books.
In this blog post, I'm going to share what I've learned from a quarter century of working with writers.
