A Tale of Two Burgers
There are many things in life I am passionate about. One of those things is an excellent burger.
You know, I'm not really sure when the whole burger thing started. Growing up, at first I was more of a chicken nuggets kid, and quickly became a "Please don't hand me the kid's menu Little Miss Pretentious would like the tuna tartare yeah I'm eight deal with it" kind of kid.
I think the burger thing started when I moved to New York, and discovered that burgers were different from...

Here a Lee, There a Lee
In a letter to his wife Abigail, John Adams wrote that "July 2nd 1776 will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America."
Close, but not quite, John. That honor goes to July 4th. So what happened on July 2nd? July 2nd was the day the second continental congress voted for independence. The vote was unanimous, except for New York, which abstained - what's up with that, guys. Up until researching this I had totally forgotten that the motion for independence...

The First Swim of Summer!
It's summer! And here in Chicago, it finally feels like summer!
Yesterday I took my first swim of the season at the lake downtown. My dog, Lorelei, also took her first swim of the season. I think I enjoyed mine more.

World Cup Hair: U.S. Men's Face Off
At this very moment, the U.S. is taking on Germany in the World Cup. Our house is FIFA madness all day every day - Boyfriend is a sports nut on most things (with the exception of basketball), but his World Cup fever has reached a new level. In an effort to get my not so sportsy self interested in the beautiful game, Boyfriend has employed a daring, innovative new strategy: finding the players on the U.S. team whose hair looks the most like Kit Harington's.
First: the Source.

Remembering Greasy Grass
June 25, 1876 - The Battle of Little Bighorn. AKA Custer's Last Stand. AKA the Battle of Greasy Grass.
[image error]The Battle of Greasy Grass, by Kicking Bear, (I've decided Wednesdays are the days I expand my somewhat appallingly minimal knowledge about American military history. If that's not your jam, come back Friday, where I will most def be talking about wedge shoes/pleats/something that in no way involves musketry.)

Wondering Wonder Woman
I woke up this morning wondering about Wonder Woman. Wondering where she came from, mostly. I couldn't really tell you why. Maybe because I successfully did a push up and was feeling like a superhero myself.
So where did she come from? Sort of a two-part answer, depending on what universe we're talking about.
1. In her world, Wonder Woman is the daughter of Hippolyta and an Amazon princess, raised on an island inhabited only by women. After Army pilot Steve...

War of 1812 Wednesdays
On June 18th, 1812, the War of 1812 began. I feel like it is primarily remembered as Something That Happened With the British That Wasn't the Revolution, or if any specifities are recalled, for the burning of the White House. When I think of the War of 1812, though, I mostly think of Dolley Madison.
I did a report on Dolley Madison in fourth grade, in which I learned that she saved a lot of paintings from the White House during the aforementioned burning, and also I drew a very gla...

Father's Day!
Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! Below is my favorite picture of my dad, taken on a great family Vacay to Hershey PA in the dead of winter in 2008.
Dad loves getting his picture taken.
