Wondering Why?

he simple change from why to how brings a fundamental shift in the way each person sees themselves. The 'why' questions are for victims while the 'how' questions are for people who are pro-active in molding their life. When you begin to figure out 'how' to make your life better, you have taken a major step forward. Once you give up the status of victim and become the author of your own life, you begin to create that life rather than having others create it for you.

Striving to Remain Relevant

You see, the point is not relevance; for that is a universal human need. My mentoring tends to focus on the questions of to whom and for what from a somewhat different perspective. The world makes it easy to skip over a careful consideration of these fundamental questions. Many of us find ourselves, decades into a career or a relationship, not having carefully thought through whether we are living our life in a way that is fulfilling. I call it the “of course” tendency. Of course, I will be an entrepreneur. Of course, I will get married and have children. Of course, I will own a home in the suburbs. Etc.

For every problem, there is a neat, plain solution

There are only really two ways out of the current situation. The first is that the population continues to you buy simple-minded ideas. That path will result in the wealthy and powerful accumulating virtually everything of value. The second is that the citizenry turn away from such ideas, get engaged and deal with life as something other than a reality show. That is a path that most likely ends in revolution.

Bucketing Out

The intervening barrier is now gone and he comes into direct contact with Iron John. Perhaps we can think of it in Zen terms. The monkey mind has been stilled and the noise which kept the hungry ghost constantly desiring has abated.

Making Time

Habits degrade situational awareness. What we do without thinking isolates us from the richness of experiencing what’s happening around us. That doesn’t make habits intrinsically bad. Some are very handy. They are shortcuts which we have developed to reduce complex situations to reflex actions. Such shortcuts may be as simple as a greeting which we habitually use or the routine which we follow in the morning. And, for the most part, these habits don’t do us any real harm
