WIP notes

I’ve been happily going along and it’s been a week of finding all sorts of interesting topics being hashtagged this month on Twitter. I’ve been doing a #PrideMonth series. I’ve also done several to illuminate my first paranormal novel, a work in progress that is slowly taking shape this month. There’s an LGBT WIP hashtag that I’ve been following and occasionally replying in (not everything applies, and some seem to ask the same question). It’s a nice list of “stir the pot” questions that have...

Throwback Thursday

For this Throwback Thursday, I have a special announcement. All this weekend, May 27-31, my very first novel, Turning Point, is on special sale for 99 cents through promotion with I Heart Lesfic, a site (with a lovely newsletter) reaching out to readers who love to read stories featuring women loving women.

So for today’s share, enjoy a look back at one of my favorite scenes from Turning Point which has withstood all the edits since the first draft, virtually intact.

The pr...

Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day

Today is Mother’s Day in the U.S. I’ve been a mom since 1992. My son is now 26, and while, nominatively, he is still living at home while he takes time (and not student loan debt) to finish college, he is staying with his girlfriend this weekend. She lives closer to the gig he is working.

What does the “early riser” do on Mother’s Day in a house where everyone else sleeps in late? I am an introvert and a writer, so I love having quiet alone time early in the morning on week...

hashtag BookMarket

On Thursdays on Twitter there is a popular hashtag authors and writers: #BookMarket

The purpose of this tag is to share book marketing ideas, strategies, and for many authors, to share a concise 140 (now 240) character description of their book(s).

I have 6 books available through Amazon, so let’s start with the novels first:

Aging actress faces a #personal #TurningPoint when a young new co-star reaches out. #firsttime #lesfic #romance #lgbtq #bookmarket mybook.to/LZTurningPoint

Talking about my WIP

This blog post follows the topics for Twitter’s trending hashtags for today: #LGBTQwrimo and Wednesday’s writer-related hashtag #WednesdayWIPAesthetic.

The wrimo topic is “How do you choose character names?” The WIPAesthetic tag is for the visuals you use to create character and/or setting.

My work in progress is a romance novella featuring two bisexual young women characters: Erin (blonde) and Rosa (brunette). I made the sample cover art (left) to get a feel for their app...

Running thoughts

Boston Marathon running is today. April 17. I’ve never been a runner, but I’ve written one in We Three : Elena Tanner.

Elena decides a morning jog together a could be a way to connect with new lover, Jess, on a one-on-one date while Eric is out of town. Jess, however, has only run before “when someone was chasing her.”

One of the things I wanted to create with this story was opportunities for the characters to interact genuinely outside their playtimes.

As a character, too, Jess has done a lot...

Mom Life in Romance

I have an #authorconfession. I often write #momlife in my #romance. Since I also write F/F, that means there’s often a moment (or two) when a kid recognizes their mom is acting, well, different, around someone. And that difference is probably love.

Here are two scenes from my novel Turning Point where the children of my MCs realize something is up, and let their mom know.

Cassidy is bathing her five year old son, Ryan, when their conversation delivers her this gem “truth from the mouths of...

Word Play

April 13 is National Scrabble Day.

What’s your highest score you can recall? In a two person game (or me vs the expert computer), my highest score that I can easily recall is 423. In a game I was playing against my spouse, I remember clearly placing two 7-letter words around the midpoint of the game. In back-to-back turns I cleared my rack.

He doesn’t play against me anymore. Hence the computer play I do now.

But it’s not the high scoring, or a competitive drive, that has me playing Scrabb...
