Gratitude Giveaways Blog Hop

gratitude

It’s that time of year…but if you live in the States you might be confused and think it’s Christmas time. Nope, it’s not time to trade in your fall décor for the reds and greens…or blues for Hanukah. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than by, well, giving thanks.

A year ago, I was knee deep in a battle with a now-defunct publisher, trying to get my rights back to the one book they published by me. Now, one year later, I have the rights back; I’ve re-written it and the following books in the series; And I’ve released them as the Goddess Series. Under that publisher, my book struggled. But the revised version I self published in February hit number one in Teen Romance! I have since gotten an inquiry into the film and television rights to it, which my agent—also a new development this year—is working on. Maybe nothing will come of it, but the fact that someone in Hollywood read it and liked it enough to ask about it feels pretty dang good.

So I am thankful for the positive outcome and looking forward to seeing what the next year will bring. What about you? What’s something you’re thankful for??

NewsletterTo help spread the cheer, I’m going to pick one person who signs up for my Newsletter  right here (or at the top on the right side of my blog) to win a $10 gift card! Two others will win the second book in the Goddess Series, GODDESS SECRET. But everybody can get a treat if you download book one in the series while it’s FREE everywhere…GODDESS LEGACY (it’s the largest novel in the series at almost 100,000 words!).

And don’t forget to hop around…the others will be thankful if you visit them.

Blogging with the Cabal!

Big_Cocks_and_Broomsticks_Button (3)

Hello, my lovelies. It’s that time of year again…that time when witches and ghouls come out to play, and your local mega store starts selling slutty versions of every costume imaginable. No, I’m not talking about your annual strip poker competition, you dirty birdies. It Halloween!

I love this time of year. I have fond memories of dressing up and going door-to-door getting tons of candy. The sugar rush alone got me through the rest of the holiday season. But as I got older, I learned how much fun this holiday can be…an excuse to tap into my inner goddess and let her shine.

Only, my inner goddess had been a punk rocker in 80’s Madonna fashion. Ahhhh…the good ol’ days. Sure, there’d been years where I’d dressed as witches, ghosts, even angels. But the year I’d donned pink teased hair and white lace gloves had been my favorite. I got to wear my makeup as heavy as I wanted without the fear of the dreaded “blush check” by my mom before leaving the house. It was freedom in the guise of a holiday, and I loved it. Now that I’m an adult and get to wear my blush as heavy as I want any day of the week, I gravitate toward goofy costume ideas, tapping into my inner dork. But I’ll never forget that year I got to slut-it-up like a virgin before the days Madonna justified her love.

So tell me about the year you embraced your inner goddess—or god—and I’ll pick one person to win a copy of Surrounded by Pleasure, book two in the Woods Family Series (Book one, Surrounded by Woods, is currently free everywhere, so technically everybody is a winner). This kind of treat won’t require a trip to your dentist…but it might make you attack your significant other.

GRAND PRIZE for this hop: $100 Amazon or Barnes and Noble Gift Card!!

2nd place: Choice of $50 Gift Card
3rd place:  Choice of $25 Gift Card

Angling for Love Release Blitz

Reblogged from Unearthly Musings:

Click to visit the original post Click to visit the original post

Today I have the great pleasure in helping to promote my friend and fellow writer, Lea Barrymire with her latest release, Angling for Love. This menage is a story I had the luck to read before it ever went to the editor. I love when that happens. I think I was just as excited as Lea was when she got this amazing cover with none other than Jeremy Mooney on it and okay, I fell a little in love with Brent and Jared and I think you will too.

Merging my Focus

I haven’t been around much the last couple of months because big things have been happening. 1. I closed on my new house and have been in the process of moving. I’m sure you all know how daunting that is. I’m still unpacking, but at least I can function now. 2. I had minor surgery and being hopped up on painkillers does not an intelligible Mandy make. 3. When not unpacking or drooling from medication, I’ve been finishing my latest book. 4. I’ve been doing a lot of promotion under my other pen name, M.W. Muse.

Other pen name? Whaaaaaat? I know, I know. I haven’t done any official cross promotion between the two names, and unless you follow closely on Facebook, you might not know about this. Don’t worry, that’s coming to an end. I created M.W. Muse as an outlet to release a series that starts out as mature Y/A through New Adult, which I’d started several years ago–the Goddess Series. Mainly because all my other books have characters who are of legal age and engage in lots of hanky-panky. I didn’t want readers who loved my erotic romances to be disappointed with this younger series, nor did I want to alienate potential readers who’d love to read it but wouldn’t on the assumption it would be erotic. However, when I released the Goddess Series, I was not prepared for how quickly it’d take off. Seriously, as in over 100k downloads and calls about the film and television rights to it. I made more money in one month from this series than I did all last year from all my erotic books. I’ve been published for years, but nothing can prepare you for something like that.

This brings me to item number 5. In an effort to make my website more about me and the various sub genres I write in (rather than it being heavily focused on paranormal erotic romance), I have redesigned it. I write in many romance categories and will continue to do so. Sure, there may be times I focus on one more than another, but that doesn’t mean it’ll always be the case. My hope is that having the site focus more on the author and less on any particular genre will keep it from alienating a particular reading group. The site may change some before I settle on a theme I’m happy with, but the new site is now live.

cropped-mhheader.jpgGoddessLegacyI’ve also separated the books out by genre on their own pages (rather than by genre on one bookshelf) and have included a link to my other pen name, M.W. Muse, on the New Adult page.  That book I mentioned earlier that I’ve been working on this summer? It’s also New Adult (college age). My agent will be shopping it this fall, so I’ll have more information on it later. As of right now, I’ll be releasing it under Mandy Harbin.

If you want to read my M.W. Muse work, book one, GODDESS LEGACY, is free everywhere for a limited time.

Surrounded by Woods 200 x 300Also, I talked with my Woods Family publisher, and they’ve agreed to make book one in that series, SURROUNDED BY WOODS, free! It’s already free on B&N. Amazon has dropped the price of it to $0.99, so hopefully it’ll be free on that site shortly.

Noble Romance No More

This feels surreal to me. After thirteen months of fighting for the rights back to my only Y/A book, Season’s Change: Summer, Noble Romance is officially closing its doors. Meaning? I have the rights back to my book, and an official letter to prove it. Finally.

The first certified letter I sent requesting my rights back and outlining breaches to my contract was dated July 27, 2012–over a year ago. I sent the last one on August 15, 2013—just last week. The first one was sent before the new CEO came on board. A man who’d never worked in the publishing industry. This had not instilled any confidence, and I’d promptly notified him that I still wanted my rights back. What followed were months and months of emails…some condescending…some downright shocking. All with no resolution. I’d met with an attorney. I knew my rights. I’d gone through the proper channels to get my issues fixed. I owed Noble no more books, but I still had a fight on my hands to get my first one taken down as had been my right at that time. It was a fight I didn’t want to endure at the time, so in January of 2013, I finally made an announcement about my issues with the publisher, pushed it aside, and focused my energy on more positive things.

Then my royalty statements ceased and more breaches mounted. My book disappeared from a retailer without explanation. I thought, good! They are finally taking it down like they should have effective 90 days after receiving my letter dated July 27, 2012. Then the book mysteriously showed up again. At this point, I didn’t care that this Y/A book wasn’t a breadwinner in that incarnation. I just wanted it back and to distance myself from the clusterfuck. Another round of emails started… one sided—I never received a reply from anyone…and back to the post office for yet another certified letter. Then the clouds parted yesterday with an announcement from Noble Romance Publishing that they are going out of business and all rights to my work have been reverted.

This has been a long battle. One that has taken time away from my writing, but one that also formed friendships with authors in the same boat. I’m glad it’s finally over…and that I have friends and colleagues who have emerged from the battlefield ready to move forward and away from the problems Noble Romance Publishing caused.

Let the celebration begin!

I Survived Romcon 2013!

photo(5)Me oh my! I had such a wonderful time at Romcon this year!! It was my first “Reader” conference, and so much different than the other conferences I’d attended in the past. There were no meetings with agents or publishers, no workshops on craft… Nope, everything was geared for the readers! And since I am… and always will be… a reader FIRST, I have to say it total awesome sauce.

photo(2)Okay, okay, okay… I was there in the capacity as an “Attending Author”. That means I had events scheduled that I participated in. First thing was an author orientation. They had each of us introduce ourselves to the other authors (as if anybody in the room hadn’t recognized who Gena Showalter was—puleeze!), and I generally hate doing those intros to a room full of people. Add to that the fact that Megan Hart was in the room, and I absolutely love her, I was a nervous wreck! So, yes, when it was my turn, after I introduced myself, I said, “…and when I’m not writing, I twitter-stalk Megan Hart.” Yes…I went there. In a room full of people. With her in it! She pretended like she was going to sneak out of the room at that point. Very funny. And I did get to meet her later. Awesome woman!

SurroundedbyTemptationAt the opening breakfast, all the finalists in the Reader’s Choice Awards were announced. The third book in my Woods Family Series, SURROUNDED BY TEMPTATION, was named as one! I was sooo tickled! I was up against some kickass authors, but I got to wear a button all weekend showing everybody I’d finaled in the contest.

Now, the first reader event I was scheduled to do was this Author-Speed-Dating thingy. Readers had two minutes at each table to discuss whatever they wanted before time was called and they all had to shift seats. You’d be surprised just how much you can say in two minutes… and just how quickly that time flies! The highlight of that event for me was when a reader sat down at my table, looked at my name, gasped wide-eyed and squealed, “It’s you!” Yes, I’ve met people who’ve read my books, but that was the first time someone squealed! There aren’t words to describe that feeling.

photo(3)Next, I had the book signing. Since there were so many of us, we were separated into two sessions by last name. I had a hard time staying in my seat because there were several books I wanted to buy and have signed! I got as many pics as I could with me and other authors, but the highlight of that was when the fan from the speed-dating event came over to buy a book. We chatted for a while then she asked if she could have her picture taken with ME! Again… words cannot describe how cool that was.

photo(4)I also hosted a game with Eve Langlais. In fact, I hung out with her and Parker Kincade most of the weekend! Parker and I have been friends for years and now I see Eve and me building a great friendship, too. Why wouldn’t I when she draws like this?

Eve and I also hosted a cocktail hour with Shyla Colt. There are videos of this lurking around. I wish I could deny it’s me in those vids, but alas, anybody who’s ever met me knows just how thick my country accent is. And now they know how lose my tongue is when I’m drinking a long island ice tea while at the microphone. I still had a blast! And why yes, Megan Hart and Lauren Dane came to drink it up at the cocktail hour, too. And Barbara Vey was my heckler for a change (long story there. :P ).

So yes, I had a great time. I got to chat with Sylvia Day again, and it was surreal when she walked into the room I was in, recognized me, and came over and started talking. Very cool woman. Even with her hectic schedule and much deserved success, she’s still very laid back. Even though my book didn’t win in the category I was nomiated—one of Cherise Sinclair’s Masters of the Shawdowlands books did, so I can’t complain losing to her!—it was still a wonderful experience.

DarkestSinAnd speaking of contests…my erotic romantic suspense, Darkest Sin, has been nominated in the RWA Passionate Plume contest!! This was a very competitive contest. The winner will be announced next month at the National RWA convention in Atlanta. Again, I’m in with some stiff competitions… as in NYT and international bestsellers…so as cheesy as it sounds, it really IS an honor just to be a finalist in that contest. I’ll let y’all know how that one turns out, too. ;-)

Big Cocks and Shamrocks Blog Hop!

CocksandShamrocksButtonTime to rock the big cocks…er, and shamrocks. ;-) Everybody loves a blog hop. This chick right here definitely does. If you’re not familiar with the rules of the game, it’s simple…hop around to the various blogs that are participating for your chance to win the big prize and the individual prizes with each of the stops. Getting freebies and winning stuff is always fun! So let’s get crackin’.

I want to hear your favorite St. Patrick’s Day—or theme—story. Just for playing along, I’ll tell you about one of my favorite themed stories. When I was little, I got a hermit crab for a pet. I named him Shamrock. I loved that little guy. I came up with his name because I’d read a comic on St. Patrick’s Day where the hottie hadn’t worn any green to work. A female co-worker asks her about it and she tells her that she purposely hadn’t worn any visible green because she’s looking forward to getting pinched. When asked what she’ll do if the sleazy male guy tries to pinch her, she replies, “I’ll whip out this shamrock.” She grabs a hidden necklace with a four-leaf clover on it and pulls it out from her cleavage.

At the time, I thought that was the funniest comic. I got my pet shortly afterward and named him after the necklace the chick wore. Of course, I was too young at the time to understand the full meaning behind the comic, but looking back, I think maybe I was hoping I’d get pinched.

Hermit crabs don’t have a long lifespan…well, at least mine didn’t. When my room started to smell and little Shamrock kept “sleeping” and not drinking his water or eating his food, my mom told me it was time to put him outside and let another crab move into his shell. I wanted to get many more, but never did. I’ve had a lot of pets over the years, but my little crab named for one of the symbols for this day has been one of my favorites. I mean c’mon… when else could you say you love having crabs?

I showed you mine. Now you show me yours…I’ll pick one winner to get book two in my Woods Family Series, SURROUNDED BY PLEASURE… Because Book one, SURROUNDED BY WOODS, is FREE on Amazon (and everywhere else) right now. Go get your freebie!! http://www.amazon.com/Surrounded-Wood...  And don’t forget to click on the links to play along.

Lucky In Love Blog Hop!

Lucky in LoveIt’s blog hop time!! I love these… it’s a way to get to know a lot of people and have some fun. Thanks for swinging by my place…put your name on your plastic cup of green beer and let’s party.

So lucky in love? Eh… I’ve had my fair share of love’s ups and downs. What’s that saying…it’s better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all… Um, yeah, I’m in this category. When I fall, I fall hard. The first call, first touch, first kiss, *happy sigh* those are awesome feelings. But then the breakup happens… but we won’t go there today. We shall still blissful in our field of shamrocks.

My down fall is that I’m incredibly shy. Yes, shy. An erotic romance author with a case of bashfulness. Go figure. But when it comes to the opposite sex, I’ve always been one to clam up. But this is where my “luck” comes in. The men I’ve had in my life…not that there’s been a lot—I’m not a ho-bag…but the men have been persistent. Not one (that I was interested in) took my shyness as a brushoff. They gave me the space I needed but were still around, waiting for me, biding their time as it were. Right now, I’m enjoying my life and yeah, a new relationship. Will this one workout? Who knows, but I do know that I feel very lucky to have him.

So there you have my “luck”… now tell me about yours. I’ll pick someone at the end of this hop to win book two in my Woods Family Series, Surrounded by Pleasure, because book one, Surrounded by Woods, is FREE right now on Amazon. Go get your freebie while you can!!  http://www.amazon.com/Surrounded-Woods-Family-Book-ebook/dp/B005F6E7Z8/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1363308544&sr=8-5&keywords=mandy+harbin

And don’t forget to hop around, check out the other blogs, and see what else you can win… for which, I wish you good luck. ;-)
