Andouille in Atlanta...How'd That Happen?

Another busy RWA kind of day, and the last full day here in Atlanta.

Last night, I met two of the editors from Tor Books for dinner, along with author Jenna Black and Claire Ashgrove. Jenna has a new YA book, Replica, which came out this week via Tor, and Claire writes the Curse of the Templars series, also for Tor.

We ate at a place called JCT Kitchen, with "modern" Southern cuisine, so I had shrimp and grits, which is fine stuff, and their version had andouille in it, a coarse smoked pork sau...

Confessions from RWA 2013

Okay, so this was my first RWA national convention. I did what any self-respecting newbie does. I printed out the massive list of workshops--dozens and dozens per day, circling the ones that interested me and making out an elaborate, moment-by-moment schedule.

I got off to a rocky start, admittedly, because my room wasn't ready (lesson: arrive the day before) and I missed the first session, for RWA first-timers. Well, I've been to RT now, I figure, so I can miss the newbie orientation.

Next, I...

Sneak Peek: Read Chapter 1 of Elysian Fields!

The first chapter of Elysian Fields is up today at tor.com -- head over and see what you think! (Don't worry, no spoilers.) If you leave a comment, the Tor folks will be really happy, and when they're happy, I'm happy :-)

RWA, Day 1: Report from the Road

Well, I'd hoped to have some cool photos from RWA today, but the fates conspired against me. I arrived at the hotel at downtown Atlanta about 12:30 and...the room wasn't ready. It was okay, though, because I had a chance to chat with Christine Glover (soon to be published by Entangled) and Pamela Mason, a co-chapter member of the Georgia Romance Writers group. Except that it took more than two hours to get the room ready.

By then, I barely had time to fly to the room on the faaaar side of the...

Who Would YOU Want to Be for 24 Hours?

That's one of the questions I'm answering today at Literary Meanderings , where there's an interview and a giveaway, so head on over!

After working day-job stuff until 2 a.m., I'm up five hours later and headed for Atlanta. Hope to post from RWA tonight!

Scottish plus Irish equals vampires!

Not much time to blog today; I'm in Day Job Hell and getting ready to head out to Atlanta tomorrow for the annual conference of the Romance Writers of America. I'll be posting evening posts the rest of the week with pics from RWA!

BUT, I have a few things to read today, with a giveaway below.

First, got the awesome news last night that Susannah Sandlin's REDEMPTION, featuring Irish master vampire Aidan Murphy, is a finalist for the Maggie Awards sponsored by the George Romance Writers. The winn...

New Releases July 13-July 19 and Readers Choice C*ntest

First, the shameless self-promotion portion of today's blog...

There's a nice review of RIVER ROAD up at Paranormal Romance Fan for Life , and there should be an interview with Rene Delachaise, our favorite merman, up as well...maybe later today, as I'm writing this pretty early in the a.m. If so, there's also a giveaway.

Now...what do you want to read this week? It's a pretty light week (good thing after last week's extravaganza). As always, leave a comment telling me the book you’...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

Elysian Fields, Weekly W*nners, and DJ's New Dog

Haven't done this in a while, so today I'm continuing my trip through the Style Sheet for Elysian Fields, book three of the Sentinels of New Orleans series. And...I just got an unexpected box of UK copies of the River Road paperback, so read on to win one. (And there are a couple of folks I owe one of these to, so I can finally send it!) All you have to do is help DJ name her new dog. Read on for details!

Here's how the Style Sheet works. In the process of getting a book published, author...

Free-Range Friday: PCs and Macs and Facebook, Oh My

Ever wonder why I stick those asterisks in my titles? It's because the Triberr program won't let my tribe mates automatically retweet my posts if they have words like "contest" or "win" or "giveaway" in the title. Which seems pretty odd, but there you go.

When I first began blogging, back in the olden days just after Hurricane Katrina, I had a daily blog called "No-No-Nola." I shut it down five years ago when I left New Orleans. But my Friday "meme," if you will was the Free-Range, where there...

Review: Lost Souls by Delilah Devlin (and W*n a Copy)

Happy Thursday! I'm in my final week before heading off to Atlanta for the Romance Writers of America national convention. I plan to blog from the road, so look for special giveaways and photos and...who knows? I think I'll be seated two spots away from Darynda Jones for the big literacy signing, so I'll be able to sit back and gawk at the long lines of fans, hoping someone will pick up one of my books by accident :-)

Hey, at least I'm a realist, right?

Anyway, today, I'm looking at a book I re...
