Have you been watching…Breaking Bad
My love of TV + my blog = Awesome fun sharing times.
Enjoy the shows I think are The Shizz
Breaking Bad
This week saw the premiere of the final eight episodes of Breaking Bad. Massive sad face, peeps. Breaking Bad is an outstanding show and, much like Game of Thrones, I’m sure you must have heard of it. It’s been all over the Culture of Pop, the Internets, the tvs, and rightly so. It’s an amazing piece of writing, acting, photography and directing.
In case you aren’t sure of what it’s all about, here’s a brief run-down: Walter White is a high school science teacher who has just been told he has terminal cancer and his prognosis is dire. With very little money, a pregnant wife and a teenage son, he turns in desperation to what he knows best – science – and to what will make him a metric ton of money – cooking methamphetamine. So begins his downward spiral into criminality. Breaking Bad is one man’s descent into a truly despicable monster, a ruthless, sociopath who believes his own hubris. The trailer for the final season depicts sparse and stunning New Mexico vistas with Walter White’s voice reciting the Shelley sonnet, Ozymandias.
There is just so much to love about this show. It grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. Each episode leaves you on the edge of your seat, breathless and tense. For a show to do this consistently for five seasons is unheard of, however Breaking Bad manages it with each episode. The writing is impeccable, with season 2 being a standout. I’ve never seen a tighter plotted season of television, with a stunning bookend motif in the opening and closing episodes of the season.
Vince Gilligan, who created the series, is an alumni of The X Files (one of my personal faves) and I can’t praise him and his writer’s room enough. What they’ve done is a true accomplishment and I doff my hat to them, as I do to Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, the two leads who bring such commitment, depth and believability to their roles of Walter White (Cranston) and his lackey and whipping boy Jesse Pinkman (Paul).
If you haven’t checked this show out, I recommend you do so now. Seriously. I’ll wait.

Wounded Heart excerpt
Hi peeps,
Excitementment news, THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF ER ROMANCE is available! Well, the ebook version and the UK paperback are available, you North American peeps will have to wait another couple of weeks before the US paperback version is available. But still! Exciting!
To celebrate, here’s an excerpt from my contribution, ‘Wounded Heart’. Enjoy!
A doctor and a policewoman take their burgeoning romance to the next level while she guards a wounded witness . . .
~ Excerpt ~
“Detective Constable Hicks?”
Tired in her bones, Ella removed her hand from her eyes and focussed on the two uniformed constables standing straight and tall before her, hats tucked under their arms. “Yes?”
One of the constables stepped forward. “I’m Constable Ayres, and this is Constable Taylor. We’re here to protect the patient.”
“Good.” She nodded toward the A&E door. “The patient is currently in an A&E Trauma Room, and we will be informed of any developments.” Her cell phone buzzed. Pulling it from her pocket, she said, “You two stay on point, make sure no one enters through that door that isn’t supposed to be there.”
The uniforms nodded and stationed themselves at the swinging doors. Never taking her eyes from them, she pressed ‘accept’ and raised the phone to her ear. “Hicks.”
“Detective Constable, how is the witness?”
At the sound of her sergeant’s voice, she straightened. “Sir, he’s currently in A&E. The nursing staff will inform me the moment we’re allowed access.”
“Good.” Crosby exhaled. “Christ Almighty, Hicks, this was a royal fuck up.”
“Yes, sir.” Again she saw the chaos of an operation gone bad. Simmons spinning like a top, an almost comical surprise on his face. Delayed reaction from the police surrounding him. The blood. God, the blood.
Pushing the horror aside, she focussed on work. “Sir, is there any update on the situation?”
“They’re still searching for Collier, but no one is hopeful of a capture.” Crosby exhaled again. She could almost picture him, lines cut deep into a careworn face, tired eyes speaking of his concern as his words never would. “We’re reliant on that witness. He better fucking hope to whatever God he prays to he can identify Collier.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Make sure you get him to talk, Hicks. Don’t fuck up.” His tone implied ‘again’.
Guilt turned her stomach to knots. “I won’t, sir.”
“Good. Report in one hour.” The phone went dead.
Slowly, Ella lowered the phone and replaced it in her pocket. Pushing to her feet, she started toward Ayres and Taylor.
The A&E doors swung open and a doctor strode though, his gaze searching the waiting area. Ayres and Taylor straightened, sharp eyes assessing the situation but there was no need. This doctor she knew.
Ripley.
His chocolate brown hair was askew, probably from his surgical cap, and a shadow of beard darkened his jaw. The white jacket did nothing to hide his lean form or broad shoulders, and the green of his shirt somehow highlighted the flecks of green in his hazel eyes. As he looked at her, the beginnings of a smile quirked his sensuous mouth, before settling back into lines of concern.
Gritting her teeth, she forced herself to focus on work. Just work. She was responsible for the safety and interrogation of a witness important to both Federal and local police. She wasn’t going to allow her attraction to a doctor whose first name she didn’t even know distract her.
Squaring her shoulders, she nodded a greeting. “Dr. Ripley.”
“Detective Constable Hicks,” he said solemnly. Even as his eyes twinkled. “Good to see you again.”

The Summer Seduction Blog Hop is hosted by
Silken Sheets and Seduction.
Let the celebrations begin!
Hey peeps!
Welcome to the Summer Seduction Blog Hop. Big thanks go to Silken Sheets and Seduction for hosting.
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Cassandra Dean and I write historical romance ranging from sweet to steamy. I also play about in the eras, roaming from Ancient Rome to Victorian to the Old West and beyond.
My sexy summer is still to come – I live in Australia, where it’s currently heading into the tail end of winter. I’m definitely dreaming of those hot summer nights, where you sit out on the patio with a beer fogged with condensation, lazily taking a pull as you absorb the heat and humidity into your skin. Ah…nice. Sometimes, we even pair it with a spa bath, bubbles tickling your chest and throat as the warm summer breeze caresses your face…
Man, I really want summer to arrive.
Thanks for stopping by and make sure you check out the giveaway below!
Ever curious, Elizabeth, Viscountess Rocksley, has turned her curiosity to erotic pleasure. Three years a widow, she boldly employs the madam of a brothel for guidance but never had she expected her education to be conducted by a coldly handsome peer of the realm.
To the Earl of Malvern, the erotic tutelage of a skittish widow is little more than sport, however the woman he teaches is far from the mouse he expects. With her sly humor and insistent joy, Elizabeth obliterates all his expectations and he, unwillingly fascinated, can’t prevent his fall.
Each more intrigued than they are willing to admit, Elizabeth and Malvern embark upon a tutelage that will challenge them, change them, come to mean everything to them…until a heartbreaking betrayal threatens to tear them apart forever.

~Excerpt~
Holy freeze gun, Batman. The words died before she managed to expose them to air. Her mouth snapped shut.
One of the Queen’s guards stood before her, huge and tall, nearly twice the size of most of the other males in the joint, a hella hunka supernatural male. Clearly not human, although Hugo Boss’d to his Adam’s apple in an apparent bid to fit in among the humans trolling for hot sex, illicit drugs, watered-down booze and loud music. Beneath the fabric of the unstructured designer suit, the toned muscles of a demonic warrior rolled like tidal waves. Even without the small lapel pin the uninformed might mistake for the The Rolling Stones’ logo, she’d recognize him for a captain of the guard. Maybe the Queen’s own Captain.
Hellfire and cotton candy. Trouble. T-R-O-U-B-L-E.
But, by the goddess, whattahottie! Despite her certainty that his presence in the club corridor boded ill for her, the force of her sudden hunger shook her.
Like lightning.
Thunder.
A desperate bolt out of the blue.
Instant connection to him on the paranormal plane, as if he’d wrapped her aura in gold chains and tugged her to him. But did that fast lane to heaven run one way or two?
A grim expression straightened the lines of what otherwise might have been a generous, sensuous mouth. A military buzz cut had weed-whacked hair the color of iron. And it didn’t stop there. Without doubt, metal fortified every single cell in the massive male’s body, pure titanium flowing in his veins. The stern planes and angles of a hard-edged, swoon-worthy face set grimly as cement. Though he lounged in the hallway like any Archie or Jughead waiting in line to discharge his rented beer in a urinal, he exuded authority, his carriage and bearing such that he made the others look like a pack of Twizzlers. Oh. Yeah. More than a mere guardsman, she guessed. An enforcer.
Ruh-roh.
About Taryn
Taryn is an Olympic caliber athlete egg roller and spends a great deal of her time petitioning the U.S.O.C. to introduce a fantail shrimp competition. When she’s not bungee jumping off the Palisades or parasailing up and down the Hudson River, she devotes her time to caring for her aging pet walrus, arranging her voodoo doll-pin collection and practicing rhythmic chants. At this moment, she is busy sweeping up the loose masala chai tea leaves she spilled all over the kitchen floor. (Probably because she needs COFFEE.) Wait. Is that something…sparkly?
Taryn hangs around a lot on Facebook and Twitter with her trillions of fans and pops in at Goodreads from time to time. You can catch her on her website, http://tarynkincaid.com, and her blog, http://dreamvoyagers.blogspot.com where she lives for comments!

She still looked at herself in the mirror, lip once again caught between teeth. Whatever she thought must be worthy of intense study. Slowly, her teeth worried her bottom lip, reddening the flesh before she soothed the abrasion with her tongue, and then beginning the process over again. She bit her lip often, when she was thinking. One day soon, he would replace her tongue with his, soothing that flesh himself as he drew her inside him, his hands in place of hers on her breasts.

Guest author: Krystal Shannon
Peeps, join me in welcoming Krystal Shannon to the blog! Krystal writes steamy paranormal romance and she’s on the blog today to chat about her latest release, SAVING MARGARET.
Thank you so much for having me today! I’m thrilled to be on your blog and introduced to your fans.
Writing has always been a part of my life. I actually can’t remember a time when I didn’t write stories. Even in elementary school a friend of mine and I made up this newsletter and each week one of us would put a little more of a story into it. It was like a serial. I found a box with all those old newsletters the other day and laughed and giggled. It was so neat to be able to look back over those memories and then see where I am now.
So much has changed. So many goals have been reached, but my love of storytelling didn’t go anywhere. I still love spinning an exciting adventure and surprising myself with where I end up.
I do want to make a living at writing one day, but that’s not why I do it. I write and create because my soul demands it. These stories touch my heart and I hope they touch yours.
Hugs,
Krystal
Successful, but lonely, Margaret Taylor finds her mate in the body of a man she least expects it in. A bear! Her human half tries to reason her way out of the match, but her wolf is through with her excuses. Crossing the species line isn’t unheard of, but it’s not often done.
Try as she might to avoid him, fate makes sure the big grizzly bear is nearby at all times. But, will his presence be enough to protect her from the evil stalking her?
The power of the magick between them can’t be avoided. But, Scott O’Hearn thinks the beautiful Taylor wolf is doing a fine job of just that —avoiding him. He can’t help he’s a bear shifter and he’s determined to convince her it doesn’t matter. She is his mate and he’s waited over a century to find her.
Will he convince Margaret she’s his true match before it’s too late?

Release Blitz! The Other Side by Zee Monodee
Today we’re lucky enough to have the lovely Zee Monodee’s newest release on the blog. THE OTHER SIDE is the first book in the Island Girls Trilogy and we have a peak inside below!
Divorce paints a scarlet letter on her back when she returns to the culture-driven society of Mauritius. This same spotlight shines as a beacon of hope for the man who never stopped loving her. Can the second time around be the right one for these former teenage sweethearts?
Indian-origin Lara Reddy left London after her husband dumps her for a more accommodating uterus—at least, that’s what his desertion feels like. Bumping into him and his pregnant new missus doesn’t help matters any, and she thus jumps on a prestigious job offer. The kicker? The job is in Mauritius, the homeland of her parents, and a society she ran away from over a decade earlier.
But once there, Lara has no escape. Not from the gossip, the contempt, the harassing matchmaking…and certainly not from the man she hoped never to meet again. The boy she’d loved and lost—white Mauritian native, Eric Marivaux.
Back when they were teens, Eric left her, and Lara vowed she’d never let herself be hurt again. Today, they are both adults, and facing the same crossroads they’d stood at so many years earlier.
Lara now stands on the other side of Mauritian society. Will this be the impetus she needs to take a chance on Eric and love again?

~Excerpt~
She shouldn’t have come. The sound of her mother’s high-pitched voice crept over the din, asking if someone had heard a car stop in the driveway. They’d come out in the next minute.
Picking up her courage, and wishing it were Dutch courage despite her not being a drinker, she tore her fingers and head from the wheel and threw the door open. Lara peeled herself out of the vehicle at the same time a chorus of gasps resounded in the garden.
All three older women were over her like a bad rash. Hugging and kissing her cheeks, holding her face in their hands while they exclaimed how beautiful she had become. All of which were simply tactics to lull her into complacency for when they’d really pounce on the meaty topic—her divorce.
With their deceptively frail-looking hands on her shoulders, they pushed her toward the back door to the kitchen. A memory of being pushed around in the same way toward the altar on her wedding day, the glittery gold and red veil over her eyes, assaulted her. She stopped in her tracks, the pain coming in from nowhere to slice through her heart. The biddies must not have noticed her stilling; they simply continued to steer her inside until she was seated at the table. A plate of towering hot bhadias appeared in front her, along with a bowl of satini cotomili, the coriander, tomato, and chili paste-like dip Mauritians ate with all their fried foods.
Auntie Ruby, resident gossipmonger, lived up to her reputation. She had been the first to mention Lara’s failed marriage before they made it back into the house.
The sound of the grating voice droned on, Lara choosing to ignore it, before her mother gave her a small slap on her shoulder.
“You wicked girl. You said you were coming on Monday, and here you are surprising us now.”
She sighed. This was code for “how could you have kept this a secret and made me lose face in front of everyone, when I’ve been telling them you are coming on Monday?” Her mother lived for hearsay and the general idea of “what will people say.” In fact, most people in Mauritius lived by the standard. Whoever said the ton and all its silly rules had died in the Regency era had not taken a trip to Mauritius, in eighteen-ten or the year two thousand.
“But my poor little girl,” Auntie Ruby said in a cajoling tone bringing nothing but danger to mind. “Of course you wanted to come home earlier. Who wouldn’t? Look what that awful, awful man has done to you.”
Translation: “And here’s your cue to air out the laundry, from the sheets to the knickers, you silly goose.”
“Our hearts went out to you, dearest girl, you who are like a daughter to us,” Auntie Zubeida chimed in. “We never saw this coming. How could you not have told a soul you and that scoundrel were having problems? We would’ve spoken to him, set him right, showed him this is not how he is supposed to treat our daughter.”
“Tsk-tsk. And what a beautiful couple you two made. How could anyone have thought you would break up?” Auntie Ruby added.
Lara forced a small smile. Damn, how she wanted to be out of here. She had a duty to do, though—the sooner she was done, the better, so she could run back to Grand Baie and leave those old cows behind. And yes, in that lot, she included her mother, who had yet to speak out. Bad vibe.
“I’m doing fine, Auntie,” she said. “That’s what matters.”
All three women watched her with narrowed eyes. No way was she doing away with the Inquisition.
“How can you be fine?” Auntie Ruby asked. “We have been so preoccupied with your plight. How on earth are you going to get along? How will your parents bear all this? To think they still have an unmarried daughter on their hands, now they are ending up with two daughters. Oh what fate God has dealt them.”
Lara bit her lip to keep from answering back. Right, the ton must’ve been more solicitous than this. The aunts were simply nosing for gossip. But then, that’s what Jane Austen wrote in her subtext, too. The concern was merely the polite way of enquiring about gossip in their society.
About Zee
Stories about love, life, relationships… in a melting-pot of culture
Zee is an author who grew up on a fence – on one side there was modernity and the global world, on the other there was culture and traditions. Putting up with the culture for half of her life, one day she decided she’d stand tall on her wall and dip toes every now and then into both sides of her non-conventional upbringing.
From this resolution spanned a world of adaptation and learning to live on said wall. The realization also came that many other young women of the world were on their own fence.
This particular position became her favorite when she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of writing – her heroines all sit ‘on a fence’, whether cultural or societal, in today’s world or in times past, and face dilemmas about life and love.
Hailing from the multicultural island of Mauritius, Zee is a degree holder in Communications Science. She is a head-over-heels wife, in-over-her-head mum to a tween son, best-buddy-stepmum to a teenage lad, an incompetent domestic goddess, eternal dreamer, and an absolute, shameless bookholic. When she isn’t penning more stories and/or managing the Ubuntu line at Decadent Publishing, you can bet you’ll find her with her nose in her tablet, ‘drinking in’ a good book.

Have you been watching…The Returned
My love of TV + my blog = Awesome fun sharing times.
Enjoy the shows I think are The Shizz
The Returned (Les Revenants)
A brilliant French series, The Returned (Les Revenants) is a thoughtful and endlessly intriguing addition to the Not-Zombie genre*. “It’s a stylishly shot eight-part French series (a second run is being written as we speak) that poses a simple supernatural question: what would happen if, years after their deaths, our loved ones returned to us? Would it be a miracle, or a curse?” This quote describes it quite well, totally stolen from Den of Geek.
The series begins with a town in mourning. Four years previous, a school bus ran off the road and down a cliff, killing all aboard. The people affected by this tragedy are starting to move on, while still remembering their lost loved ones. But then, a victim, 14 year old Camille, walks into her mother’s kitchen as if nothing has happened…
Soon, others return – Simon, a musician who died the day of his wedding to Adele, who had just fallen pregnant with their now ten-year-old daughter. Madam Costa, whose return after forty years terrifies her husband so much he sets fire to their home. Serge, whose dark secret forced his brother to an unthinkable act eight years previous. And Victor, a mysterious little boy who attaches himself to nurse Julie, a victim of a horrendous attack.
The Returned is a fantastically affecting show. It’s creepy and atmospheric and just beautiful to watch. The alpine setting lends an other-worldliness to the proceedings, making the huge dam framed by majestic mountains foreboding and threatening. There’s a real sense of menace underlying the show, and what seems a miraculous return slowly reveals itself to be something not-right.
This show is a definite must watch and I can’t recommend it enough. A second season will begin filming in France soon and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
You can check out The Returned (Les Revenants) at:

*Like the term? Totally just coined it.
