Until …
She loosens up on some of her rules. Her guy, Dave, proves to her that she is worthy of everything the others have. The last day of classes prior to the winter break, she's ready to share some stupendous news with Dave, but tragedy intervenes when her daddy texts while driving a bus. Trea is left wondering if she can ever be free of a curse that heaps a lot of bad luck on her whenever good things happen to her.

His return text sends me into a fit of giggles. That's something only he can accomplish.

Alex Starkey is a normal teenager with unfortunate initials. Initials which have been his nemesis his entire life. Initials matter when all the kids call each other by them instead using their names.
If that isn’t awkward enough, there’s Payne, who’s made a career out of bullying kids he thinks deserve it. Alex’s inits make him a target. Alex can deal with that on his own, until Payne crosses the line and tries to force him into doing things with long-range consequences. That’s when Alex stands up and faces him down.

A week after the summer solstice, Marnie awoke with an unsettled feeling running through her. Even though they hadn’t solved many cases, she and her crew hadn’t ever left any part of a case unfinished.
“We really have to start looking for George.”
She knelt on the window seat her dad had helped her install in her bedroom last weekend. He’d had a full forty-eight hours without being called back to the station, a rarity in their home and one that usually ended up with major projects going on from dawn until nearly bedtime. Marnie was still basking in the glow of spending the hours not only making this seat, but also making sure their covered patio was ready for this summer’s round of late afternoon barbecues with their friends and neighbors.

Loud voices startled Luke Timmons. He could hear the ocean outside his open bedroom window and wanted to go to the beach. His mommy and daddy had promised him that he could pick where he spent his fifth birthday and he wanted to run into the ocean, build a sandcastle, and have a lot of fun.
“Where’s the stash?” Daddy yelled. “What have you done with it, Liz?”
Luke’s mommy’s name was Liz. His daddy was Brian. The idea of having his mommy crying and his daddy “sick” today made his tummy hurt. They had promised him a really fun birthday of going to the beach, and to get pizza later. Daddy even promised to buy Luke an ice cream cone for dessert if he was good all day long.

This sleepy little area, nestled up against the foothills, is probably best known for their football team, but that was yesterday’s news.
Three girls have vanished. Notes left behind have an “H” and a “S” with red dripping off them. People’s minds automatically go to the horror of 1969 and wonder if someone else is about to initiate “Helter Skelter.”
A group of teens, Wildcat Crew, doesn’t think so. Despite the police looking at a trouble teen, they focus on another teen whose past has some dark secrets. As the city moves toward the summer solstice, these intrepid investigators work diligently on solving this case before someone else vanishes into the canyon.

Christmas 2019

Good morning and a very happy holiday to everyone. My only wish this year is that everyone leaves behind the anger this past year and accepts a different attitude in the coming year. Hatred has taken so much from all of this in 2019. It’s past time for us to remember the reason for the season.

Historically, we have seen sworn enemies during war come together on this day of peace. We have lost our path and yet somehow found a way back. Mostly, we remember the gentle joy of our childhood and dream of returning to that in some simple way.

The joy of small children often takes me back to my own childhood. No other time of the year was as exciting as Christmas. Magic was certainly in the air along with the hope that special gift was beneath the tree.

No matter where you are, who you are with, be happy for your circumstances. Accept that you can’t change everything and that there is always a reason for what we’re enduring. Mostly, be happy for those around you, for their delight at the simple joys of life. Look beyond your small world and be in awe of all the good things happening.

No matter how you celebrate the season, do so with joy and happiness, with the thought that tomorrow can be a better day. If only you allow yourself to see the world through different eyes.
