Frost was far too light a description for what lay upon the ground this December morn. Phillip Wermeer cupped his hands in front of his mouth and blew on his cold flesh. This area was near to the Scottish border, close enough to where they could hear the rumblings of battle from King George II’s men pushing back the heathens to the Highlands.
“Get in here!” an angry male voice shouted.
With a sigh, Phillip turned away from the castle and headed toward his duties in the stables. Soon, the lords and ladies attending his earl would be wanting to go on a hunt. They’d be demanding that their horses be saddled after being fed. Slacking off this chill morning wasn’t in the cards.

The Storm
Good morning and welcome to Tuesday Blog Share. Today, we’re talking about The Storm the tale of two teenage girls surviving hurricanes many years apart.

Following a series of devastating hurricanes in 2004, Calle Jenkins and her family return home to Key West. Finding nothing left but wreckage, her parents decide to start over. For fourteen year old Calle, starting over means finding friends who evacuated or rode out the storms, starting a new kind of school, and realizing that, for a while at least, life is going to be very different from what she expected. To help her cope, her mother gives her a journal written by a teenaged relative over a century ago.
Elizabeth Berg lives on Galveston Island in 1900, and despite there being some family troubles, doesn’t want to live anywhere else. To her, Galveston is heaven on earth. Until Mr. Isaac Cline warns them that serious changes are at their heels, and with them, the apocalypse. By then, there is no way or nowhere to run. All lines of communication and transportation have been destroyed.
Buildings were shredded and thousands perished as the winds howled and the sea rose.
For Elizabeth and Calle, life moved on.
“The Storm” of September 8, 1900 remains the deadliest hurricane in US history.

September 8, 1900 began as a sultry day on Galveston Island, Texas. The population went about their usual business. Some of these people were immigrants, awaiting transport to other parts of the United States. They were living in a tent city on the beach near the city’s battlements. The bridges leading to the city were busy with people moving back and forth. The train to the mainland and back was running on time. Ships headed for the harbor. No one knew what awaited them, although one man was desperately attempting to get through to Washington DC and the US Weather Bureau and praying they would listen to him. In hindsight, if Isaac Cline’s prediction had been heeded, maybe some of those killed might have survived. Maybe—if they could have gotten off the island before the leading edge of the storm arrived.

Hello, Ghostie Central. Tripped through the other blogs earlier and couldn’t find anything like what’s going on with the Landry Ghosties. I so hope someone out there has an answer to our current manifestation because we have absolutely no idea how to handle it. First, though, a little history about my particular talent.
My name is Hailey Hatmaker. Don’t crack the usual jokes. I’ve heard every single one and they stink. I adore living in Landry, Georgia. It’s a really old town in the northwest part of the state. The Mendocino Complex Fire has burned for nearly two months. During that time, residents in and around Colusa, Mendocino, Lake, and Glenn Counties live in fear of their lives. This fire was once two blazes: River and Ranch. Nothing done so far has curbed the flames consuming everything in their path.
During the daily briefing, it was mentioned that a group of individuals, specially trained to deal with major brush fires, have been called into action. Their only duty is to control this conflagration and allow the many firefighters on the ground to contain and eventually put it out. Fire Chief James Marshall refused to introduce the group. All he indicated is that they are the only ones capable of doing this job.
