THE LOST JOURNAL OF ALEJANDRO PARDO: Creatures & Beasts of Philippine Folklore
A new book that I am involved with just came out. It's a creature book about monsters on Philippine folklore. What I love about it is that it is written to have a narrative embedded to it rather than just encyclopedic entries about the monsters. Check it out!

"Pagsilang ni Elias" rough animation

"HABANG WALA PA SILA" book cover and interior illustrations
Adam David, my frequent collaborator on works like TABI PO, ANG SUBERSIBO, IÑIGO'S DAY OUT, RAKET SCIENCE and many others, contacted me to illustrate a book of poems he was designing last month. It is written by spoken word performer Juan Miguel Severo who I only knew from this video that went viral last year. Apparently this is his first published work too.
The images above are the illustrations and mockups I came up with for the cover. The cover illustration initially isn't covered. It looked like this:
However, there are concerns on the amount of skin being shown so Alex Cruz, Adam's contact on ABS-CBN Publishing who is publishing this, gave me the idea of doing a die cut cover which would only reveal certain parts of the cover. This is how we can creatively "censor" our own work. So I adjusted the illustration to accomodate the die cut. The final cover is black but there is an alternate cover that is violet.

The ideas for all the illustrations came from Adam so my role for this project is to just be his hands. He also instructed me to take inspirations from the works of Adrian Tomine and sent me these images:

Hehe. Andami-daming mga nangyayari sa buhay ko! Kakakasal ko lang at kakatapos lang ng kaarawan ko tapos ngayon heto! Magkaka-baby na kami! Matagal na rin naming gustong mangyari ito. Akala namin mahihirapan pa kami makabuo ni Princess pero heto na siya bigla! Ang saya lang! Yehey!

Ang Subersibo: Noli at Fili komiks - Malapit na!
Malapit na pong mai-release ang unang isyu ng "Ang Subersibo." Ito ay ang pagsasakomiks namin ni Adam David ng mga nobelang Noli Me Tangere at El Filibusterismo. Naibigay na namin ang mga files sa Anino Comics kaya kaunting panahon na lang at mailalabas na ito.
Heto ang maiksing synopsis:
Oktubre 1881. Las islas Filipinas. Maynila. Isang batang iskolar ang umuwi matapos ang pitong taong pag-aaral sa Alemanya upang simulan ang kanyang buhay-propesiyonal bilang guro sa bayang sinilangan. Asawa, pamilya, maayos at tahimik na pamumuhay ang mga simpleng mithiin ng iskolar na ito, ngunit ang kasaysayan at tadhana ay may ibang mga plano ...
Mula ideyalismo patungong terorismo, ANG SUBERSIBO ay ang masalimuot, moral, at melodramatikong trahedya ng buhay ni Juan Crisostomo Ibarra y Magsalin. Sino ang binatang ito? Anong sakuna ang nagtulak sa kanya para iwan ang kanyang buhay ilustrado upang maging isang arsonista at filibustero?
