Blast from the Past: Road Fighter on MSX

Ahh my first ever car racing game! It was very primitive yet very hard to play. Check out the animated people in bathing suits above :p We used to call it “Sebaq Sayarat” athary its name is “Road Fighter”!

When the count down for the race starts, with its ding ding diiiiing, it immediately takes you back to the excitement you felt when you were 7 years old playing this game!

There was a naughty pink car that always always tried to slam into you and if it didn’t it will leave you in a daze afterwards so you can slam into the sidewalk and crash.

If you didn’t crash, then you can very easily run out of fuel unless that much needed pink heart appears for you!

In the past I never ever made it past the 2nd stage! It wasn’t easy! Now that I am grown up I did finish it, belzoor, but I did :D

Those were good days indeed. Car racing games has evolved so much since then but this one remains my most favorite, after Mario Kart that is :)

Do you remember Sebaq elsyarat?

Zero Degrees Frozen Yogurt Now Offer Home Delivery

Yesterday I learned via Zero Degree’s instagram account that they started having a home delivery van and when I did I picked up my phone and called them straight away.

I love Zero Degree’s frozen yogurt and quite frankly its my number one choice for fro yo in Kuwait. I loved them even more when, 40 minutes later they were at my door with the van ready to serve us. I was quite impressed.

You have to order for a minimum of 6 KD which is not a lot considering I usually like to order two frozen yogurts, one in the freezer for the next day and one to ear right away. I enjoyed my frozen yogurt for a tea treat right away in the comfort of my own home.

If there is anything better than Zero Degrees Fro Yo its Zero Degrees Fro Yo van at your doorstep. I am very very happy indeed :)  If you are already a fan of Zero Degrees or you haven’t tried it still which I strongly suggest you do you can call them at 55540404.

Help: A Home Car Cleaning Service is Needed

Now that the move to my new apartment is finally complete and there are no more heavy duty purchases involved, my poor car is in severe need of some TLC. The thing is it has never been cleaned properly and professionally from the inside where they scrub every morsel of surface and vacuum every thread of fabric.

I think now its the time to give my car a long long bath. But quite frankly I cannot find time to eat or sleep properly let alone take my car somewhere to be cleaned for hours on end while I twiddle my thumbs. I remember reading somewhere a long time ago about car cleaning services who would come to your house and take care of everything while you are at home.

Have you tried any of these services before? If you do would you recommend them? Much obliged :)

Picture of the Week: Indoors

The best thing about Beit 7 (post) is the indoors tree they have inside extending towards the ceiling. I love its mere existence. I wonder how long has it been there, whether or not it had stood witness to lives past, how it grew up there, who planted it, and whether or not it was stroked with love or sat underneath to drink a small cup of tea.

I think its magnificent. I wish that one day when I have a house of my own that I will be able to plant a similar tree indoors and watch it as it grows into the skylight! You never know, it may be possible :)

Ten Things I Hate About Kuwaiti Exhibitions

1- The Salamat: The cause of 90% of the crowding in any expo! Two women with their entourage meet in the middle of the narrow aisle and start kissing and saying hello and exchanging the gist of their past 25 years since they’ve last met while people are trying to walk around them to no avail. You have to wait until they are done. Plus, try and talk to a seller for a complete 5 minutes. You can’t because at every minute and so she will stop, say hello, and chat for a while, then come back and you have to explain what you want all over again. Urrghhh!

2- The Babies: You know an exhibition is already crowded with stampeding women. Why on earth would you bring kokash yahal with you? Its hard enough trying to walk between all these women let alone push your baby in his pram. Also, why do you need two maids for one child? Pushing and shoving the crowds so the baby is safe and unscathed? Can’t the two maids entertain him somewhere else? Bs kafi elnafas on the poor child!

3- Elseller Elmayga: She sits there displaying her stuff but she looks at the crowds with the aloofness of a queen. Whenever you approach and try to make eye contact she pouts, fishes her phone, and pretends to be distracted. Erm why are you here then if you don’t want to sell to customers or interact with them?

4- Eldewaniya Booth: Some sellers will invite their friends and/or family over. Gather inside the booth and turn it into a mini dewaniya: sowalif o 7abb o chai. If you say “law sama7tay” they all stop talking, turn their heads over to you slowly with killer looks, how dare you interrupt their “salfa”. Elsharha mo 3lekom, el sharha 3lay ele bashtere minkom.

5- The Recycler: She buys stuff from all around Kuwait, IKEA for example, knit a crochet net on top of it, and sell it for 10 times its original value! We know it’s available in IKEA for 1 KD! Or a piece of cardboard thay you cut as a door handle and you can do in your local markaz 6ba3a for 10 KD!!! Eshda3wa! I’m all for supporting creative business but some things are just too much.

6- The ATM: Given that we have one million exhibitions held in Kuwait already I wonder why they don’t facilitate payment by Knet or a one stop payment or something. The ATM line is always too long on the lone ATM machine! Maybe they can have a service where they collect your purchases to a collection point where you pay before you exit and take the bags at once. That way you don’t have to carry your bags around b3d, mo?

7- Elmalgoofa: She is a fellow customer who has no respect whatsoever to the conversation you are barely having with the seller. You would be talking and she would interrupt “law sama7tay law sama7tay hatha shinooo” or “ebchaaaam” or 3adi jedan she acts be 9amt but she grabs whatever you are holding or whatever you are standing next to. Why the hell don’t you wait your turn like I’ve waited mine? I always let them get their way because otherwise I’d make a scene and quite possible strangle elmalgoofa ele ma ta9ber!

8- ElMo7aqeq: She stands by your side patiently waiting her turn, thank god for that, but then she kills the time by holding a mini interrogation session: Sheybe3oon? 7elween moo? Esh sharya? Entay min bentah? Metzawja? 3ndich e3yal? Wain teshta’3lain? Dasha ma3rath ana wella ta7qeeq? Esh hal legafa intay b3d? Wallah 7reem elQ8 could do well working as interrogators!

9- The Stinky Booth: Elnass yayeen embakhereen em3adeleen emzahlegeen, o 7arr, o crowds, o khanga, o you pass by some food booth that cooks the food by the fryer or 7ameesa or displays something so smelly “fish?” that your eyes water and you curse yourself for passing by. Can’t you have done your cooking at home or operated an delivery business mathalan? 9oba’3na!

10- The Parking: Elmoshkila el azaliya everywhere in Kuwait. There is no parking when you try to get in. When you do find a parking you spend an hour trying to get out of the expo. If you go with Valet parking they take one hour to get your car while you are standing there in the lovely weather with your purchases and heels if you are wearing them. Mako fayda :(

What about you? What do you hate about the exhibitions in Kuwait?

Gorgeous Acrylic Boxes

Anyone who knows me personally knows I’ve had a thing for acrylics. I cannot resist them, the prettier the better! I have stumbled across a gift wrapping and dazza boxes design business and what caught my eye is the beautiful acrylic boxes with arabisque detailing.

The boxes are either sold individually or in a set of three on a wooden trays. Each individual box is sold for 4 KD if you buy it on its own which is a steal in comparison to the crazy prices of the local Kuwaiti businesses.

I got myself the tray with 3 boxes: Green, Purple, and Pink! It looked like they were made specifically for my living room! The nice owner of Crafty Bee told me that she can make the boxes in other colors too!

The beautiful thing about those boxes is their detailing.

See what I mean?

My husband who usually disapproves of my purchases didn’t waste any time claiming of the boxes for himself!

When he filled the box with his favorite biscuits its like giving his seal of approval :p His biscuits are too precious to be placed in just any place! I wonder why all the men I’ve encountered adore this gingery biscuit though?

Crafty Bee, these boxes are amazing! You made me very very happy indeed!!! You need to design and sell more acrylic stuff. Gawwach Allah o emwafeqa insha2 Allah :)

For more information you can contact Crafty Bee through their facebook page (link), their twitter account (@Crafty_Bee), or by calling them on 50888259.

Shino '3adakom Elyoom?

Hello and welcome Thursday! A rainy Thursday too which is even better b3d! I am loving the weather outside and I'm sure most of you are feeling the same! Have you had lunch yet? What are you planning for lunch? Eating in the office? Bel zwara? At home?

We are planning to have Fattoush for lunch. My favorite salad of all time is Fattoush and my favorite one is the one we do at home. Its tangy, crunchy, soggy, sweet, smooth, and very very very very good. I could eat fattoush for lunch and dinner everyday for the rest of my life and NOT complain. It is my main futoor item in Ramadan, the same way people eat tashreeba. I am planning of having this for lunch.

So again the eternal daily Kuwaiti question: Shino '3adakom Elyoom?

Ramadan: A 100 days and Counting…

Someone who obviously loves Ramadan very much has made the world know today that Ramadan is only a 100 days away! Horray!

I love Ramadan. I think its the best time of year. I love the fatoosh on futoor table, the tea estekanas after futoor sleeping on the couch with the droopy eye lids. I love our pre-futoor ritual of watching the IT Ramadan show and commenting on it on Twitter. Even though this year we might watch it via Instagram etha Allah 3a6ana 3omor o 9a7a o 3afiya insha2 Allah.

Ya rab et3oodna ya rab. This year its going to be on 19 July! 2 days after my birthday which I suppose I can disguise as a friendly graish ;) I was actually born in 5 Ramadan in the year 1980 so next year insah2 Allah my birthday will be during Ramadan. I wonder if it will be on the fifth 3ad? Allah y36ena 3omor o y3oodna!

Are you excited? I am. I truly am. I think I will start fasting now just to start living the Ramadan atmosphere.
