The Detective Part 2
I've been working on a series of short stories over the last couple of months revolving around a single character. He's a detective working in a world governed by hexes and things that live in the periphery of darkness. Those six stories are the best that I've written to date and you'll be able to read them all.
On May 1st, 2012, I'm going to publish all six in one book and it will be available both in ebook form and in real book form.
I can't wait for you to meet The Detective.

The Detective Part 1
I've been reading a lot of detective fiction lately: Agatha Christie, Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler. Aside from the fact that they're all about mysteries and detecting the solution to aforementioned mysteries, they're also some of the more depressing books I've read. These writers have crafted worlds populated with brainless thugs, shallow women and men who are isolated from the rest of the world just because they're half-way decent.
There is horror here, different from what I write, ...

And then I Found Five Dollars
I saw five dollars on the floor of a Dunkin Donuts today and I spent a good couple of minutes deciding if I should pick it up or not.
On the one hand, I just found twenty dollars the other day, which seems like I've found my fair share of money for this month already. I should let someone else find the money to rebalance my karmic wheel.
On the other hand, I don't believe in karma and I just recently lost my job, so I kind of need all the money I can get, even five dollars of floor money.

Beer Review: Samuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale
To prove to myself and to my readers that October is more than just about bad horror movies and costumes and demons, I'm going to bring back something that we haven't seen for a good long time:
One of Dylan's Slightly Drunk Beer Reviews!
It's been a while since I've done one of these, because I don't have much to say anymore. All the beers starting to blur together into one big boozy haze. Since I couldn't think of anything interesting to say, I decided to leave them alone until I did. And now ...

Horror Conventions
I've always wanted to go to a horror convention. There are few places where my out-of-proportion love for horror movies would seem normal and a convention for horror freaks is one of them.
Luckily for me, there's a convention right here in Boston. And, by right here, I mean over in Worcester. It's called Rock and Shock and it's going to be at the DCU Theater and Palladium between October 14th and 16th. The guest list alone makes me want to squeal. (Freddy Kreuger) and

Branching into Paperback
I've long resisted printing my book simply because it makes for a more expensive product. It's the same product, but with a price difference of fifteen bucks.
But today I finally decided that ya'll deserve the opportunity to buy my book in an actual, hard-copy form. It'll be the same thing as the Kindle copy, but printed on for real paper for all you luddites out there.
Pay close attention to this very spot for when Tales of the Whispering Mad and the Mis-Dead becomes available in paperback!

What Scares You?
I approach horror from a very personal perspective. I only write about what scares me. That means: no ghosts, no vampires, no werewolves, no demons, no anything supernatural. I avoid anything and everything that doesn't interest me at all. If it doesn't scare me, then why would it scare anyone else?
Unfortunately, this doesn't actually pan out. There are plenty of things that scare other people that don't even register for me.
So, I ask you (my faithful readers), what scares you? Is it...

Announcing Announcements for Halloween
While I've been away from the blog for a while, I just wanted to reassure ya'll that I'm back and from now to Halloween, there's going to be an entry a day (if not more).
I'm bringing back reviews. I have one or two beer reviews on the back burner that are Halloween specific. I'm also going to start posting movie reviews on Blog Critics again, if they'll let me. If not, I'll just post them here. I'm going to be sticking to independent, low budget movies for two reasons:
1. They're more fun for ...

Made to Order
I've often been tempted with the idea to write scary stories tailored for an individual. A person's fear is a very personal thing. What scares you might not scare me and vice versa. It's hard to hit on broad stroke fears that will affect the majority of people. It's the battle I always have with myself when I do write horror. I can go for the niche (noneuclidian horrors living in the space between space) or I can go for broad (man with stabby knife). The best I can do is try and scare myself ...

Plans Macabre
So Halloween is rapidly approaching and how. I know you're probably not as excited as I am, since most people who get excited about Halloween are under ten and thinking about candy. As someone who indulges in horror year-round (writing it, reading it, watching it), it's always nice when October comes slouching 'round and everyone else starts talking scary movies.
And I have plans. Some are fantastical and out there and are most likely not going to happen. I'm not even going to tell you what...
