I only just heard about this "Story Forge" deck. They have already met their Kickstarter goal, so it will be a reality. I threw in my pledge so that I can get in on the pre-sales. Congrats B.J. and I'm looking forward to this.

Story Forge Cards
Ladies and gentlemen, there are no longer any "ifs" attached to this project! Last night we crossed the line past 100% funding, so this is a done deal! There is still plenty of time for anyone to get in on the pre-sales, so you can buy with confidence! Huge thanks to everyone who has bought in so far and helped to make Story Forge a reality!

25 Ways To Unfuck Your Story
terribleminds.com
Recently I've been going through a process of "unfucking" a novel — parts of it fired really well, but it just didn't feel right. Something about it just didn't hang together, so it was time to break out all the tools a writer has in his arsenal — every scalpel, hatchet, reciprocating saw, Drilldo, ...

This is the shit I have to deal with...

I can't write anymore tonight. I'm exhausted.

Pussy.

C'mon. I did really well for NaNoWriMo this year.

Loser. You didn't even get half of what you needed to win.

I don't need to win some arbitrary contest whose goal is to vomit up 50,000 words. I'd rather write 15,000 really good words and use that as a solid beginning.

Yeah, and now you're stuck. There's no such thing as writer's block. You're just a quitter.

Am not. I think the story is solid, but I just need to ...

Need to what? Huh, punk? Do some research? That's procrastination and you know it.

No, seriously. I'm writing period stuff. This isn't 1993 and I can't just squeak out 50K about my hometown anymore.

But just write. You can fact check later.

It's not fact checking, it's...

Bullshit. You're procrastinating. Just go write.

OK, I'll go write this harrassment down and blog about it.

That doesn't count, dumbass.

Whatever.

... and that's just the battle between my left and right brains.

I don't disagree with the sentiment, but I do use NaNoWriMo like a gun pointed at my head to get butt in chair. For the record though, I have yet to *win* NaNoWriMo. I still refuse to sit down and write "crap" for thirty days.
