Cut Flowers vs. Potted Plants

Cut Flowers vs. Potted Plants
Recently, I hosted a dinner party. One guest brought a potted plant and another brought cut flowers. Which was the better gift? I’m coming out on the side of cut flowers.
Cut flowers will eventually wilt and can either get composted, or if one is fearless about the earth’s detritus, get thrown into the trash. To me, giving a potted plant is almost the equivalent of giving a family a live animal. Both gifts expect that the recipient will be glad to receive a gift that requires care and maintenance.
When I want a pet, I find a homeless animal and take it in. When I want a potted plant, I go to a store and buy one. Currently, I have two dogs, one cat, and that one darned potted plant!

I’m Amazed
Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m amazed by something and thought I would share it with you.
There are ways to contact me through this website, and people do that. That’s just fine. That’s what those processes are actually for. Every few contacts, someone sneaks in a business pitch. Here’s the amazing part: They want to build me a website. So …
1. They’ve gotten onto my website.
2. They’re contacting me through my website.
3. There’s nothing left for them to do because it’s already designed and active.
This makes absolutely no sense to me. I understand trolling the internet for business. I do my share of that, too. But this kind of waste of time and energy escapes me. What’s it for?
If you have your own website, does this happen to you, too? Tell me your story, because It’s Amazing.

Genetics and Itchy Feet

Genetics and Itchy Feet
My grandfather had itchy feet, coming from Russia, through Nazi Germany, to Ellis Island, and all the way to Cleveland, Ohio. My father, had itchy feet, too, as in suddenly running off to catch a plane for somewhere. So it’s no surprise that I also have had bad cases of itchy feet my whole life through, courtesy of genetics from these two guys.
I’m betting that all of you understand the concept of “itchy feet.” My husband hates to travel, as I’ve mentioned in previous posts, but it astonished me when the other night, I told him I had itchy feet, and he asked if I meant a case of athlete’s foot.
Does anyone else think it’s cool to travel to historical or unusual graveyards? Or is it just me? I’m thinking of a day trip to the next state over and visiting a U.S. veteran’s graveyard, to lay some flowers on the grave of that guy who gave me my itchy feet.

New Links Added
I’ve added some new links to the Links page. I’m trying to be rather choosy about what gets added, and where. Take a look and see if you find any new sites or information that you might find useful.

Paring Down
Over the past year, my husband and I have been paring down. I, in particular, have been shedding things that will never be useful to me again, donating bags of books to the library, selling things, and donating stuff that could find happy homes elsewhere. I’ve been finishing projects, and paying others to finish some projects for me.
Why does my house still look like a “before” picture?

Definition: Voyage
Definition: Voyage
I thought it was time to visit another definition. Here is the full Merriam-Webster definition of Voyage:
1: an act or instance of traveling : journey
2: a course or period of traveling by other than land routes voyage>
3: an account of a journey especially by sea
Examples of VOYAGE:
The Titanic sank on her maiden voyage.
He wrote about his many voyages into the South Seas.
a manned voyage to Mars
I love that the English language has a word that is good for both sea travel AND interplanetary travel! It boggles the imagination! I think about sci fi authors like Jules Verne or Robert Heinlein. In their own ways, they were travel writers. Did anyone else get the travel bug by reading either of those authors as a child?
