Book Review: Sound Man, Glyn Johns (3 coffee beans)
Because I’ve started writing a book about a family that includes a rock and roll sound man, I found this autobiography of an authentic rock and roll sound man, Sound Man, by Glyn Johns, sound man to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and many other big names and famous albums. The stories about the rock icons are nothing that the tabloids haven’t already covered.
I got some technical tidbits that will be useful to me, and the author’s story is certainly compelling. But this book is BORING. The author managed to take a fascinating subject and make it BORING! The book gets three coffee beans because it’s factual, and you can’t argue with facts.
If you’re a biography and autobiography lover, as I am, pass on this one.

Home Improvement Junkie
Do any of you get inspired by home and garden reality shows to make some changes? An old show called Design on a Dime made me challenge myself to redo the kitchen for under $1,000, and I met the challenge with just pennies to spare. Other shows caused me to paint over most of the ugly paneling in the house, paint and refinish furniture, remove fake wainscoting, take down wallpaper, and take up broken and cracked vinyl floor tiles and finish the concrete beneath them. Then, there are the projects that I had to pay other people to do for me.
Why is this on my mind? I’ve started watching a show called Flea Market Flip. The theme of this one is that you buy junk at a flea market, refurbish it in some way, and resell it for a big profit. This is causing me to look at my ugly, second-hand breakfront, and think: “Project”!
Now, I just need a bottle of decoupage glue and a solid week of sunshine.

Decibel Update 1
Just a quick note to let you all know that my next book is coming along nicely. The story took a huge left-turn off the track, and new characters have introduced themselves to me. It’s leaning toward my whimsical side rather than the original plan, my historical fiction side. But I’m sure all that research on sound engineering won’t go to waste.

U.S. Brewery Tours
I’m not a wine drinker, and tours of the Napa or Loire Valleys have no appeal to me. I’m a beer sipper. I usually get through about two-thirds of a beer before it gets to skenky to finish. My husband was a home brewer for a few years, until our porch was overloaded with cases of beer and ale, slowly losing their potability.
In the spirit of beer sipping, here is the link to The Travel Channel’s list of U.S. breweries that we can tour. Personally, I wish the Anchor Steam brewery was much, much closer to me. They would know me by name over the course of a year.

Being Bookish
Ladies and Gentlemen, I am busy being bookish. I’m researching and writing (yes, at the same time) my next book. When it’s ready for launch, all of you will be the first to know.
The temporary, and probably permanent, title is Decibel.

I can’t wait to see the sea glass art and jewelry. It’s sure to be stunning.
I’m looking forward to the road trip to Lewes, Delaware, at the end of June for this festival:

Can anyone meet me there? I would love to say hello in person.

On a Personal Note
This is a call for prayers for my husband. He’s never sick, and he’s my rock, but he’s sick now.
